Should i be worried?

So i wasnt sure what board this goes in but in the past week or so i have lost about 5 pounds. the only thing i have changed is that instead of regular soda i have switched to water, crystal light and diet soda. plus when its really hot i dont eat a lot so my food intake has decreased. would that just be the "results" of those changes or could there possibly be something else? not really sure so any thoughts are appreciated.

    I am taking a bet that it's likely the switch off from soda has helped you lose weight. The sodium in soda causes fluid retention and can make you feel pretty bloated, and the carbs/sugar in the soda can do the same thing. I can't drink soda at all anymore because it makes me so bloated, even diet soda which can even be worse... try to cut it out completely. I say I have a soda maybe once or twice a month, if that. I don't keep it in the house at all.

    Bikerbabz is right. Between the sugar and sodium, to cut that out suddenly could have definitely helped the sudden weight loss. Plus when you're first starting out it often goes a little quicker than after you've been at it a while. So if you're not feeling tired or lethargic or run down (don't forget to factor in the heat/lack of appetite this past week) then I say emoticon
Now if your appetite picks up a little with the cooler weather, and you find you might be eating a little more, you might not have any loss next week. But don't fret about it, that's okay too. Just keep on doing what you're doing!!

    OOO ooo...I forgot to mention about the diet sodas (I am a diet soda fanatic, and I really really really really wish someone told me this when I first started out so I am going to tell you)....

Even though diet soda does not have any calories, turn the can/bottle over and look at the sodium in it. Sodium will make you retain water...which is gained weight. I am a soda FREAK so not drinking any makes me loopy (ok, fine, loopier than i already am)... but there IS a solution...there are some sodas out there with NO sodium in them!! WOO HOO for us soda drinkers! Shaws Supermarket....(super chill) most of their store brand soda is sodium free, not to mention cheaper than coke/pepsi! But I still try to limit my soda t o1 a day.....but Im an addict...so sometimes 1 just isnt enough...i need one 2-litre...I figure, its still one, right?

Which bring me to my next thing I wish I knew earlier on.... The more water you consume, and the more often you drink it, your body will get used to having it in there, and you will not retain as much water, which will also help you drop weight quickly. This may have also accounted for your fantabulous 5 pound drop!!

    Welcome to Sparkpeople! Congrats on your decision to step it up now for the future of babies (it will make it much easier to conceive later if you start now!)

Your weightloss could be from a number of things. Switching from regular soda to diet/water/crystal light is HUGE! If you figure 150 calories per 12oz can of soda.. and 3-4 sodas a day equals 1 pound over the course of a week, so if you switch from soda to water (which has 0 cals) you will elimate 1 pound right there!!!... (3500 cals to a pound divided by 150 cals per soda can divoded by 7 days a week equals 3 1/3 soda cans)..and some soda has upwards of 200 cals a can! So that alone will show weight loss, and then when you add in eating less...that is even more weight off....and alot of people will lose their first string of pounds rather quickly as your body doesn't know what is going on....

So to answer your question, no, don't be worried. You are doing GREAT!!!

Either way, it is weight loss, and hopefully you are feeling great with the results! Anytime I switch up my diet/exercise I usually see a 4-6 pound weight loss the first week on...so if you ever get stuck or need some friendly help, advice, a ranting/venting board, motivation, anything really, you can call on me!!

First Blog... Whats crossing my mind...

i have struggled with weight since i hit puberty. my doctor had never really said to much about it except lose weight. Now im struggling with the fact that i have PCOS. my fiance always tries to get me to talk to him about it but i always have a hard time because it is such a difficult thing for me and i always get emotional.

my weight constantly fluctuates around a 5 to 10 pound area. my grandmother is always the first one to say something and it always hurts more everytime. if i gain a little weight im too fat when i lose some weight i just look sickly. i cant ever win so that is part of my struggle too. i dont know if she realizes how much she hurts me but i dont think she seems to care either. she has always been like that though.

stress definately adds to why i weigh as much as i do. i was born under stressful situations and have grown up in it all. my father was constantly in and out of my life. i was molested as a child so i have no self esteem. in september of '08 my fiance had brain surgery to remove a tumor the size of a baseball (him 3 days after the surgery) and now PCOS. it just really never ends.

i think the most difficult part of this whole thing so that i find it easier to throw my hands up and say i give up. if i do that then i risk never being able to have a baby. sometimes i get to a point where i just dont care. and then i take my beautiful little neice for a weekend and then i get overly hopeful that i can get past this.

so here i go on my long journey...

  I too suffered from undiagnosed PCOS. I even had to have an ovary removed because the cyst was the size of a grapefruit. Two years later, at age 36, I gave birth to my now 22 year old son. I continue to deal with my weight, but I'm finding success in small steps. Don't give up.

WTG on starting this journey to better health! Remember this is a journey and not a destination, and each day gives us our challenges to face but when you know tomorrow will be different and you can change your body composition through slow and steady healthy diet and exercise, make the focus your health not your size , not the thin or the fat, but the health of the matter .
