The good news, the bad news

Monday, September 24, 2007

Bad news first.
My tummy is upset!! I really don't feel too good and I'm also feeling worn down still. I thought the week end would have helped but I guess not.

Good news.
Today I managed to work out. Some one was on the elpitical so I had to do the tread mill until they got off. I got lucky, I only did it for 15 mins and then I was able to get on. I did pretty good, better than last time. I did a full 15 mins and didn't have to support myself on the machine. I gave a little pause 3 times (every 5 mins) but kept moving but not as fast. I made it a point to get a drink and wipe my brow and just couldn't move as fast as before. I then did lower body strength training and I think that I can move up the weights on some of them!

The better news.

Yes, there is better news! I lost weight! 4lbs in 9 days, 3.5lbs in 7 days! I have gone from 206lbs to 202lbs!!!

This brings me 2.5 lbs away from my goal!

For those who don't know, I messed up the time frame and bounced my numbers around. If I can lose 2.5lbs by the first not only will I have lost 2 weeks early but I will have also had lost an extra half a pound!

Wish me luck!-Kat

Thanks for the comment! :) I need to remind myself that at least the scale is going down...and not yo-yo-ing like it usually does. It looks like you've done an awesome job with your weight loss as well. I was waiting until I weaned my son to start the weight loss process as well....it seemed like my body just wanted to hold on to the extra weight no matter how hard I tried to lose it while I was nursing.

The end of the weekend

Sunday, September 23, 2007

Well, it's been a horrid weekend...well ok, that's going a little overboard there. I started to get sick on friday so of course I was week feeling that day (didn't know it was a cold hitting) and by the time it came down to Saturday I was sneezing and all. Stupid head colds. I know it's due to the weather. But I have pushed forward. Staying up late at night for some reason which I think is due to being thrown off by the cold. I've been sleeping in during the morning and have been in the bed just hanging out. That's been pretty much my past 2 days.

Yesterday I only did a mile and a half hike with the kids, pushing the stroller and all. I finished with 2 core, 2 upper body and 2 lower body strength exercises at home.

Today we went and did the hike but only got through 1 mile of it before it got dark. I'm hoping to do the same for strength training.

I also did laundry today at the laundry mat. That's a work out there. Lifting and walking around with baskets that weigh at least 50lbs. My baby weighs 30 and the laundry is heavier than he is. So with laundry work, I'm not upset about the half mile gone. Plus, my shins are still bothering me and I'm sick. I'm cutting me some slack here. LOL

Well, tomorrow is weigh in day! Hopefully the taco bell didn't kill me. I'm hoping to lose another half pound taking my Monday to Monday weight loss from 205.5 to 203.5 a whole 2lbs off!

Wish me luck!

I forget what today is....23rd? 22nd?

Saturday, September 22, 2007

So lets back track here for a second. 2 years ago I was on bed rest for about a year, then I spent my time walking with assistance and then finally walking on my own...for the most part.

I started sparks on July 15th this year and started working out in August. Yes, mommy and baby swim 2 times a week for 30 mins and 45 mins of walking on the tread mil one day a week. I did this for 4weeks. Sept. well nothing until this past week.

Monday, walking on the tread mil for for 45 mins. Tuesday, walked a mile and a half...hiked a mile and a half while pushing a stroller...and a toddler. Wednesday, walked for a mile and did 30 mins on the tread mill. Thursday, treadmil for 30 mins. Friday, 5 mins on the bike, 5 mins on the tread mill, 20 mins on the eliptical trainer.

Everyday I went to the gym (except for Friday) I also managed to do weight lifting. Friday I went jogging in the pool for 10 mins and playing in the pool with baby for 20 mins. Tuesday I also walked an extra mile to take the kids to school.

So as you can see, I've gone from working out once a week to working out everyday. I'm super proud of myself but I noticed that on Fridays work out I just felt out of it. I've been dealing with shin splints and just had one heck of a day on Friday. I decided to stay in bed today. Well, I have kids and I can't be in bed all day but I've been sitting up in bed resting my leg and my body.

But it doesn't mean that it's all over for me...

The kids have already started to get ready for another hike which means hopefully 2 miles of pushing the baby in the stroller and then resting for the rest of the day.

I'm feeling better and don't want to fall into that whole "well I need to rest another day" routine. I'm going to work out but just not over do it.

WOW!!!! you go gurl!!!! your doing an awesome job.....if you have to rest because of an injury then do it....or if you dont want to completely give up....just cut your routine a little....do a mile and a half instead of 2....just to get your self back to full steam.....but you seem to be doing an awesome job....keep up the great work....Conifer

another walk but no strength

Thursday, September 20, 2007

I took another walk but did no strength training. I honestly forget what I set for goals on that terms. I think I said 3 times at the gym and the rest at home. Well, I've gotten in once at the gym and home zero. Yesterday though I did do 9318 steps! That's the closest I've ever been to 10k. I went walking that trail with a friend and a friend of the baby's. Yep 2 toddlers and a trail. The little girl just walked along. My little one jumped out of the stroller, ran a few yards while screaming high pitch at the top of his lungs and waving his arms, ran back while screaming high pitch at the top of his lungs and waving his arms and jumped back in. He tried to pull roots out of the ground and fell several times. Then he got up set that I was pushing the little girl in the stroller and went running and crying after me, throwing himself down every so often. Eh, he is only 18 months and she is only a few months older. He kicked off his shoes and ran in his socks and wouldn't keep the darn shoes on for the life of him...along with his sweater. He was head to toe in dirt. Slept on the ride to the store (about 10 mins) and later on to pick up his sisters (5 mins) the rest of the day was like having the gates of hell open! Even if I wanted to rest after all of my walking I wasn't going to!

I even did great on my food! I can take off 100 cals cus I didn't eat the Jello pudding! I had a huge lunch though and I only hope I got all the cal in take of it. I think I most likely did and maybe even went a little over. Dinner was good too and I even got to have that 3 musketeers mint candy bar! I was so good with it. It has 2 bars and I took the first, split it in half and gave a piece to the baby. Went to eat the other piece and instead split that in half and gave it to the baby! So I got to try it and still didn't go over!

WOW!! Just reading your blog makes me tired! I always wished there was a way you could bottle up the kids energy and then release it when you needed it. You certainly are a lot braver than I would be to tackle toddlers on a walk. I guess that's why God give them to you while you're young. God Bless You!! Enjoy every minute of them while their young, they grow up way to FAST!!

sounds like you are doing great! I have been walking to the park with the little guy in the stroller and then while he plays at the park I try to do some exercise (jumping jacks, step ups...ect..) Keep up the great work!

Wow, Kat! Walking a trail with a toddler? You didn't quite make the 10,000 steps but probably burned 20,000 calories running after him! Good job!

Off the tread mill and hitting open road

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Yesterday was my first day walking while not on the treadmill. Yes, Even though Marie wasn't feeling well, I managed to get her out of the house and walking. We did a 1.5 mile walk on a nature trail while I pushed the 30 lb baby, a gallon of water, a diaper bag and one of those honkin strollers down the dirt path, up the dirt path, up the hill and back down the hill. Everything hurts! I worked up such a sweat, even my kids couldn't keep up! I walked for about 50-55 mins. Normally I do the tread mill and get in about 2. something miles in 45 mins and about a mile and a half in 30 mins. I'm thinking all the up hill motion, luggage and the fact that I had to walk really slow with that stroller going around those turns down hill. Wouldn't want baby down hill! I loved the walk!

Awesome job, I have noticed that the trails are harder then the treadmill.

It was a lot more work! The only issue I had with the walk was that I could stop when ever I wanted (which I figured before hand and so I made it a rule to only stop long enough to get a drink, take off my sweater or wipe my forehead. No sitting, no resting!) I only stopped a few times (with kids you have to anyways). On the tread mill, the most I do is slow down my pace. I like the tread mill, it makes sure that I keep on going and it paces me. It is also a whole lot nicer on the joints (man I hurt after wards!) and on the shins. The nature walk though is something I plan on doing more of. I'm going back to do it today! It just puts me in my element and it's so nice to have something to do with the kids and you can't do that on a tread mill.

Its amazing how much more work a walk in nature can be compared to a treadmill isn't it? I hope you enjoyed the change in scenery after all you may start making a goal to complete the same walk in a lesser time so that you can slowly progress from a long walk to a quick jog ;) Anyways I hope you continue to enjoy the exercise.
