Mary says I'm never happy...

Saturday, June 07, 2008

Mary says I'm never happy...LOL she should have seen me today at the gym.

I went to the gym with Paula today. I found out that she won't be getting a membership so we only have one day together...I'm gonna miss her!

On another note, I went to the 12 week program. In short they set you up with a program that tracks what you are doing and how you are improving over a matter of 12 weeks. It's a done by computers and yada so I won't have to log but onto sparks to track here.

Me and Paula did the regular old routine. Elliptical, bike, treadmill. I did pretty good, talked through it and all. During my first 8 min session I sang through it and didn't realize until I heard Paula's voice and took out my head phones. Apparently others had stopped to listen to me and were commenting about how well I sing...LOL.

I kept those numbers up there! I once again dropped during my 10 min session of 7 and the last 7 but it's improved. I was ranging around 138 on my 8's and going as high as 146 so I guess it is to be expected. I only dropped once! I was so pissed and shouted out. LOL. I listen to "The Eye of the Tiger" during my session and while doing so, I went and wiped my forehead, knocked the headset off of me, knocked myself off balance and dropped to 128! The number went right back up cus during that session my eye's do not leave the numbers. You can hear me shouting "UP, UP, UP!" and other random things like calling out the time and yelling 'COME ON STOP PLAYING AROUND!" and yes I do say things like 'Feel the force, hey my name is rocky balboa and of course always THE EYE OF THE TIGEEERRRR!" No matter what I'm doing "fishing for dangling head phones while screaming 'I DROPPED, 32 SECONDS BEFORE THE FINISH AND I DROPPED!!! DAMN IT!!!! I DROPPED!" (yes, a little over dramatic I know but it gets me through the workout) no matter what, my eye's stayed clued to those numbers and I make sure that I stay with "the force" and keep "the eye of the tiger".

Corny...yes...but hey, I'm pulling 71 mins of cardio with my heart rate ranging from 123-177....159 is an average....

AND....I just dropped 4lbs in one week...

You still think it's that corny?

Okay so it is!

New notch reading

Friday, June 06, 2008

Well, I did it, I've made adjustments to my program. Here it is (for those who are clueless, read the blog before this one).

LV3
Resist 5=stride at 110-120
Resist 7= stride at 120-130
Resist 8= stride at 130=140

I think this will work. I tried it, not fully due to the fact that I was a bit distracted with someone showing me how to work it and I also was stretching at the start...again. I didn't get to 7 until 2 mins into it. The 8's I was able to do at that range, never dropping to 130 at all and only to 132 a few times. I spent a lot of time around 136-138 and as high as 144.

I was tired though by the second 8 and my strides dropped for the 7 and came back up at 5.

I'm going to keep this up for the rest of the week and once I can make it through the whole deal at a Comf of 5 then I'm going to switch it again.

I was sick today and dealing with car issues. 4 car places total and I had to eat out. I did pretty good and stayed within range but that extra fat and food turned my stomach...it's still turning...

I wanted to puke on the machine but didn't. It was really bad at the start and I barely came in at 3 miles on the bike. My run was only for a min and a half instead of the 2 mins due to my stomach. I felt drained and dizzy on the elliptical and I knew it was due to the lack of water and the fat content in the food I ate.

I was soooooo thirsty!!! Lord, never again! I AM DONE WITH THAT!

    What are we going to do with you? You are never happy with your results and are changing things up (again!)... Its like you want to lose weight or something..... Well I hope the new routine does just what you are looking for, make you sweat like a man and lose some fat (just don't lose it near me I recently discovered i'm a fat magnet!)

Next time you are out make sure to grab a healthy snack. Skip the white castle it's just not worth the pain afterwards.

Step it up a notch....

Thursday, June 05, 2008

Okay, I'm going to take this time here to explain what it is that I do for cardio.

I started out at 5 mins on the treadmill going 2.0 an hour. Moved to 5 mins on the elliptical and tried 5 mins on the bike. Once I realized that the elliptical was the machine that did the least amount of damage to my joints, I stayed with it and worked my way up to 55 mins at a resistance of one. I did this from August to the end of Oct.

I did not workout from Nov-Mid Jan. In Jan I returned to the same 55 mins at a resistance of 1 until I injured my knee. I returned again in April and did 35 mins at a time switching my resistance up and down from 1-3. The second to the last week of May I switched from 2-4 and aimed for 4200 strides during the 35 min session. My average stride was 122 and I went as high as 134.

The last week of May I started an Elliptical endurance. I thought that I was hot Sh*t and could handle the level 2 at my normal pace, starting my strides at 122 and working up...HA! I learned quickly. This is a run down on how the plan started and where I'm at now. I'm also going to put up all levels and codes in case others want to try it out. It is an adaption of an endurance plan I found on sparks.

LV= level, Comf=Comfort level scale 1-10, with 10 being "near impossible" and 1 being "way too easy", Time=Time, Resist=Resistance Level (varies per person and machine).

Okay here we go.

LV 1:
Time=5, Resist=5, Comf=3
Time=5, Resist=7, Comf=5
Time=8, Resist=8, Comf=8
Time=5, Resist=7, Comf=5
Time=5, Resist=5, Comf=3
(I would then do the machines 5 min cool down but at a resistance of 3 and comf of 3)
Total time =28 mins

LV2:
Time=5, Resist=5, Comf=3
Time=5, Resist=7, Comf=5
Time=8, Resist=8, Comf=8
Time=10, Resist=7, Comf=5
Time=8, Resist=8, Comf=8
Time=5, Resist=7, Comf=5
Time=5, Resist=5, Comf=3
Time=5, Resist=3, Comf=3

Time=5, Resist=3, Comf=3
Total time=69 mins

Like I said before, I thought I was all hot stuff and came out speed racing and learned my lesson. By the second day I had put stride restraints onto my program too. Here it is as follows:

Resist of 5 stays in the 100-110 range
Resist of 7 stays in the 110-120 range
Resist of 8 stays in the 120-130 range

I've been questioning this plan since Thursday. I looked around and wondered "why am I not sweating like that guy or dying like the people on the biggest loser?" I mean it was hard and I was sweating but you see people really pushing it and I just didn't feel like I was.

Working out with Paula proved that... I spent almost the whole time balanced, not using the bars at all. I talked through it all...even the "hard" 8 min sessions. I kept my ranges up even higher than norm, even reaching 136 at times.

It was too easy....

I got in today and did some HILT work with it to see how I would end up. Mind you I had eaten and it wasn't settling well with me...at all. I did pretty good though. During my warm up I did arm stretches while on there which brought my stride down a bit. During my 8 mins sessions I spent the first minute going as fast as I could reaching as high as 184 strides and staying above 160 and averaging out around 172. I then rested until the last min of the 8 min session and started it again. Now when I say rested, I just mean I lowered my strides and heart rate, I didn't stop.

This all left me pooped and all my strides were low until I started it again at the next 8 min session. During my last 5 min session at a level of 3 for comfort and 5 for Resistance, I did manage to catch a second wind and keep my strides up.

I can say that I think I really switched things up but just not enough. I don't think that the HILT program is right for me at this point and that building Endurance is what I need so I will focus on that as of right now.

I can say that I jumped on the bike and did my 20 mins and kicked butt!

At the same time I got on the treadmill and did the same! I hurt my hip...well it locked up soon as I started running but I kept going (just knowing I was going to pay for it later) and in the end I raised not only my speed by .1 but also my time by 5 seconds and now can run for 2 mins and 5 seconds at 4.7 miles an hour!

I looked over the numbers from yesterday and realized that I beat everything but the elliptical ( I beat the distance but not the strides...odd huh?" which means that I improved!

Even the best thing, I had body sweat! I had it with Paula too but now I had it on my own!

I sweat like a MAN and I loved it!

Still though I just know it, just feel it...I need to step it up a notch...

I worked out with a friend!

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

I've asked several of the people I know if they wanted to workout with me and all have said yes and then bailed...well this one didn't!

I went to the Y today with Paula and it was total fun!

I have to say that she impressed me greatly. Though she walks daily and is way smaller than me, I know that the elliptical can be hard due to the different muscles it works. She was struggling but she finished even though there were many times she wanted off. I helped her through it, telling her to lower her strides, and she got her second wind and came back to finish it. The most impressive thing though was the fact that she kept on and on about how she was tired and couldn't do it and all and then finished with "But I'm not going to quit."

It brings tears to my eye's just typing it.

I hope she comes back, it was total fun and we really pushed ourselves!

Mary and my Done Girls

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

OMG! YOU PEOPLE ARE AMAZING!

I've joined a new team and they totally rock! I've had up to 30 teams on my page at once and would switch on and off non stop. I've had at least 60 something friends all at once but never in my entire time on sparks have I've ever received so many emails or comments as I have over the past 24 hours. I believe I've gotten about 5 spark mails and 23 comments on my sparks page from the time I joined the team to about 3 hours ago. That is honestly about 24 hours!

I've once put a comment on all of my friends sparks page and their blogs (if they had one) with a total of nearly 60 comments made and never received more than maybe 5 replies in the course of a week. To get 4 times that in the course of a day is amazing.

It's things like this that keep me going. I always check my comments, spark mail and blogs to see how many people are out there listening to me. To know that there were so many out there not only listening but with open arms willing to support me brings me to tears.

Honest, I'm DONE! After feeling like this, I never want to go back to how I felt before.

Thanks Ladies!

Let me also add that Mary, I love you! I remember during my time off with the baby I only came to sparks to see you. I love our friendship, it's kept me going here on sparks and when I tell others that it's amazing how you can never meet the people on here but yet love them as if they were right next to you, I always give your name.

Love you Mary!

Love you all!

    Good for you! The Done Girls are a great team - super active and supportive. For myself, I try to keep my teams to a minimum so I can support my own program as well as my teammates. It's hard when you feel like you're talking to yourself, but I just keep plugging away.

I'm glad you're a Done Girl - and a Tacoma Sparker...

    Viva,

I've noticed that you have been sparking a lot more lately! Actually, the friends that I've kept out of that whole group are the ones that have stayed with sparks and with me. I made sure that I kept those who posted to the boards and checked in on me too.

There was no way I could get rid of you. I know we can't post daily but 9 out of 10 if I left you something you reply back which is why you stay on the top of my sparks page!

Hugs hon!
