Making a 6 Month Plan May - Oct

Ok one of the articles today is sticking with me. So I am making a plan and giving the details:

What May's Goal is 5 lbs - 196 to 191

And here is HOW I am going to do that:
Steps 7000 each day (increased from 6500)
Walk 30 minutes 5 to 7 times a week (increased from 3x's a week)
Strength trail 3 to 5 times a week (addition)
Log foods eating (eat more veggies and fruits) getting more consistant

and the WHY - for my health - just found out I have High Blood Pressure and that is something I can control.

So Today will be day one and I have the balance of the month to do this. Five pounds doesn't sound like a lot but for me it is. Weight just doesn't come off easy fo me with my thyroid. And since I am not sure why - I need to find out. So Each Day - Each Choice will have to count for something positive. I can do this by paying attention to the details.


So how many steps to burn one calorie. Inquiring minds want to know.

Since I got my treadmill I have walked everyday. My goal for the
First 30 days is to walk or run for 30 minutes each day. I am happy to say day 4 and I am walking each day for 30 or more minutes.

But now I am wondering how many steps do I need to burn off calories, we'll an article on "livestrong" said if you walk 10,000 steps in a week that would equal 3500 calories. So 70,000 steps = 1 calorie.

For me with 20 lbs to go, that would be 1,400,000 steps. You can look at it two ways: 1st shocked and say think it is impossible or 2nd I didn't get this way over night and it won't go away over night. I prefer the latter. So breaking it out further, I walk 7500 steps a day right now - so that means 187 days......LOL or cry out loud, not sure which.

Because I am not the most patient person in the world, I now know that my 7500 steps a day will not allow the weight to just roll off each day, but a lot of 7500 steps a day will.

New Treadmill

We'll I finally did it. Had a gym membership but that really didn't work for me. Trying to get there after working all day was hard. Once I get home especially in cold snowy winter is the last thing I want to do. I like staying home when I get here.
While we were on vacation a few weeks ago every day I walked and walked. Just loved it. It was warm and I was moving. Since we got home I have tried to get to the gym. If I get there I am lucky to get on the machines. I don't like being watched to see when my 30 minutes are up, do you know what I mean.
So this week I got a treadmill and set the room up - just perfect. I walked once yesterday and twice today - had to get all my "spark" steps in....LOL. Tomorrow when I get home I can jump on my machine and work out comfortably. My goal is 30 minutes a day at least.
Funny thing when I exercise each day I also eat better and that makes me feel better too.
So come on and walk with me each day.


Long Winters Nap

I think this winter instead of the "Long Winter's Nap" I am going to make it a exercise journey. For the months of Dec/Jan/Feb I am going to challenge myself to exercise more. Not that I did much before. No fooling myself. Time to do it. I didn't have to work Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun and I got out and walked each day (except Thursday) It was really nice to get outside, cold to start but warmed up and hot when I finished.

So I am going to continue what I started. I already have my week set up. I walk run with Hubby and Girlfriends so we can catch up. Today I am walking when I get home, tomorrow I have a long work day and will not get out so I will use it to transition to AM workouts on Wed/Thur/Fri. Sounds like a plan!

Come join me for december and keep pushing me to get out there - always can use come company. What did you do today?

Spark Activity Tracker - Motivation

I got my Spark Activity Tracker about 2 weeks ago. It came in a nice package similar to my IPod and also has an extra battery. From the first time I plugged it in - I can wait to see how many steps I am doing. My first goal was to get 6000 steps in a day. But before that I just wanted to see what I was doing. Even though I knew it – it didn’t register, I only got about 3,000 to 4,000 a day. Well with my first goal at 6,000 my awareness has moved to a new level. I want to hit that each day. I win “Spark Trophy’s” if I do. I want to build the consistency needed to reach my long term goal to lose weight and be healthy.
So the first day I made up my mind to get my 6,000 steps in – I had a meeting and I wouldn’t get many steps there. So I walked all through the house before I had to leave. Up and down the steps in the living room through the bedroom, just all over. My husband and the dogs all looked at me like I was a crazy person. But I did it. I reached my steps that day and it felt good.

The next day I told my husband when I get home from work I am going to run down the street to the church and back, no further and no less. I knew that would be hard for me to do even though it isn’t all that far. So I came home from work and hubby asked if I was ready. He joined me. Even though he does his walk / jog in the morning he added an evening with me.
After we finished to the church and back we decided to walk in the other direction to the stop sign and back. On the way back (and downhill) we jogged some more. This little gadget is keeping me motivated to move. And the fact that it uploads to the website – so I don’t have to do anything – well that is just the best. (don’t want to reference icing on cake here)
So I am happy to say, that I really enjoy the Spark Activity Tracker a lot. Easy to use and no fuss! I am losing weight and living a healthy life.
Today I have an appointment after work and when I get home I will continue my jog to the church and back – then walk up the hill to the stop sign and jog it back. Feels good to know I have a plan and see that plan unfold on the pages of SparkPeople.
