Well, as you know, Jason and I joined a gym. We've been so busy since we joined but finally was able to go last night. It was late - about 9:10 when we got there (they close at 10:00) so we didn't have a lot of time to waste getting started. I told Jason I was going to hit the treadmill because I feel like I'll get the most bang for my buck there.
At first, I couldn't decide which program to do so I played with the various programs available; most of them were walking programs but I wanted to run. So I've been eye-balling the "5K Run" program and decided to give it a shot around 9:30. It put me on a 10 minute mile and I was able to do most of it but had to force it to allow me to walk a few times....seems walking is not programmed into a "run" on a treadmill! Because of time constraints, I was able to complete 2.5 miles in the 25 minutes I had available to me. At 10 til 10 Jason was starting to ask how much longer I was going to be so I told him 5 minutes. If I had taken that extra 5 minutes, I could have completed it but didn't know if they'd be kicking us out at 10. Either way, I know I put in at least a half mile on the walks prior to doing the 5K program so I feel good doing what I did.
I was hoping that it would be cooler being in a gym but even that did not prevent me from sweating profusely! Jason had the foresight to bring in a towel (I brought one too, but left it in the car) and I had to use it several times to wipe the sweat from my head. I was proud of myself for being able to run as much as I did even though my shins hurt on the treadmill. They didn't hurt to the point of having to stop, but they hurt more than what they did when I was at Wickham. I was sure to ice them when I got home so hopefully they'll be healed by the time I try again.
Oh, someone forgot to forewarn me how WEIRD it feels to get OFF the treadmill!! When standing still, I felt like I was moving backwards!! How weird!!
Jason is such a good motivator - he told me he was proud of me and I think he even mentioned me being a "machine" at one point. It's just a good feeling to be able to get up there and run and it makes me proud of myself.
Have a great day everyone!
