New member of the family

Monday we took a stray cat we caught to animal control in Winter Haven and, while we were there, I made the mistake of going into the area where the adoptable pets are ... well, I just fell in love with a little 5 year old Lhasa.

Having a second dog is something we had to seriously consider and we had to consider how we thought Matzah would react so on the way home we discussed it at length. We went back Monday afternoon and spent a little time with the dog. He is the sweetest thing.

We were told that his last owner (guess he has had a couple of families adopt him)surrendered him back to Animal Control after just one night because he barked all night. We decided we were willing to take the chance and, if barking is a problem we'd work with him to break him of it. We found out they don't take Visa so we had to return yesterday morning to adopt him.

We were looking forward to a night of barking but he didn't make a peep!!! He slept with us and Matzah on the bed. I'm thinking whoever had him before us either crated him or shut him out of the bedroom and he isn't used to that. Those people are missing out on a sweet little dog by not giving him a chance to become part of their family.

Matzah has some adjusting to do but so far there haven't been too many problems. Yesterday the new dog wouldn't leave Matzah alone and he got irritated but we expected that. Matazah has been the only baby for all of his life. We think this will work.

By the way, his name is Charlie. We had to name him because when he was originally surrendered in October although they got his birthdate --- they didn't get his name. He seems to respond to the name.



The picture shows Charlie on DH's lap and Matzah is his favorite spot.

    Mazel Tov on getting your new dog. He is so cute. You really did a good deed giving him a good home. I like the name Matzah, too. For this dog you can call him Miricale for Hanukah. That could be his middle name.

Inner Child

Everyone has an inner child. Oh, come on!! Of course you do!! Maybe you just don't let it out often enough. I know I don't.

I did last Saturday though!!

We went to Bob Evans, a popular chain around here, and there was a balloon artist. What fun it was to watch how the adults reacted when he asked them if he could make them something. Afraid to let out their inner child so someone would see the fun cooped up inside.

Me, I got a swan LOL ... And I had a lot of fun watching him make it. There is going to be someone in the Lake Wales Bob Evans every Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm and I am positive I am going to be getting me another balloon art!!



Don't worry about the date on the picture, I didn't reset the camera's date before I took it.
It was taken on Sept 13th.

So .. let your inner child out. Don't let it suffocate in there. Get some balloon art. Have a water or a pillow fight!! Sing your lungs out with the car windows open!! Dance down the street!! Afraid someone will think you are off your rocker??? What do you care??
It seems when you grow up you forget how to have fun!!

Getting a Little Discouraged

Well, this is the 4th week I've been at 220 lbs. Getting a bit discouraged. My grand plan is to lose at least 3 lbs a month until I get to my goal weight. To me 1 lb in a month is not acceptable but I don't quite know what to do about it. This is going to take some thought.

I have been walking around our small MH park - once around is 0.17 mile - at least one lap a day for months. Sometimes, depending on how hot it was out and/or how my ankel felt, I'd do 2 laps around once a day. Recently I've upped it to 3 laps - which equates to 0.5 mile - twice a day and still no weight loss.

I've been basically good with my eating plan. Paying attention to calories etc. . I haven't "cheated". As a matter of fact I've been under my low number a number of times.
Could my body think I am starving it and refuses to lose? That may be it. It also could be that I'm not drinking as much water as I should. I will remedy that.

My goal for August was to lose 3 lbs. I lost 1 lb. Guess it is better than gaining I suppose but that wasn't the goal. I thought 3 lbs a month was doable and I still think so..

I WILL NOT let this get to me.

I AM going to keep trying.

I WILL continue to watch and track what I eat.

I WILL continue to drink as much water as I can every day. I've never gotten to the 8 glasses a day that is recommended but I CAN get 6 into me. The goal is still 8 glasses a day.

I WILL continue to walk 3 laps around the MH park twice a day. Back at it tomorrow. I decided to give myself a day off today after I noticed that, although the humidity is down it was 86 degrees out at 9:00 am today. I may walk tonight after it cools off a bit.

I WILL NOT allow this to defeat all I have done so far.

I WILL NOT give up on myself. I've come a long way in the last 4 months and I owe it to myself to keep on keeping on.

I WISH this site had more fonts to use for expression LOL ... ...

Now that I've gotten it out I feel a bit better about the whole situation.

    Make sure you are eating enough calories to fuel your body into buring the calories to lose the weight. Sometimes when we cut back or try to stay at the low end, thinking eating less is better, it's not. The calories you burn the more calories you will need to eat for FUEL to your BODY.

    Good attitude and dropping one pound is great. I know it could be disappointing to drop only one pound a month, but think about what a pound of butter looks like, that's what you got rid of.

Also, once, when I first started on a diet, it took me 2 months to drop one pound. I was horrified at this thought. But I dropped 6 inches off my waist the first month, I was dropping inches faster than the weight. The weight started coming off very quickly then.

So hold on to your hat, things will change.

  Yes sounds like to me you are setting yourself up for success. Only do what you can handel. And stay positive. keep up the good work. And you should try the walk away the pounds series. That way you can walk in the comfort of you own home.

    You have a good attitude. I am a slow loser too! When I hear about people losing 5 pounds a week, I just want to scream emoticon! Why can't I do that? But I have finally realized that I will succeed no matter how long it takes. I think that the slower we take it off, the easier it will be to keep it off. We are like the tortoise & the hare-slow & steady wins the race! So keep up your good work & your attitude. You can do this & we are here to help whenever you need us. Kim

    I like your positive self talk. It's hard to keep motivated when it takes longer than we'd like. Maybe focus other positive changes until your goal manifests? Good luck!

    Watch going under your calorie count. That can be more harmful than good. But you have your mind set and are thinking positive so in time you should see positive results. Keep it up!!

Motivation

You know, motivation can come from anywhere and anyone if you let yourself be open to it.

I have been motivated by this site and the friends I've made on it. They are always cheering me on. Things that may seem like just little things to them but mean a great deal to me.
Things anywhere from a "way to go" to sending me a SparkGoodie recognizing my efforts to encouraging e-mails.

For 4 days now I have been doing 3 laps around our small MH park per session and I even got in one last night after the rain. 3 laps is only 1/2 mile but that is more than what I was doing before. In trying to encourage and motivate a SparkFriend in Michagan I have been motivated to extend myself.

I used to do only one lap around and felt like that was it. Once in a while I'd do two laps and thought I couldn't do any more. I wasn't pushing myself to exceed my own expectations. The expectation when I started out for my walk was - "I'll only go around once". The expectation now is "I will go around 3 times". Last night it was so humid I thought I was not going to make it the third time around but I did it!! And I am PROUD of myself for getting out there and doing it.

From now on the expectation will be AT LEAST 3 laps AT LEAST once a day. When it gets cooler here I think I will actually look forward to the evening walks.

So, thank you my SparkFriends and my SparkFriend in Michigan. You've motivated me and didn't even know it!

Update on Matzah: Test came back negative for the Cryptoccocus but the vet wants to keep him on the medication for another 2 months to make sure. Testing again in November. If that test is negative also he is off the meds.

Anyone ever have a song just keep running through their heads? Of course, we all have. For reasons unknown to me the theme song from "Rawhide" has been running through my head for a couple of days now. Anyone remember that show??

So I thought I'd do something with it and I've put some of my own words to it ...

Is this nuts or what? I feel absolutely elated today dispite the fact that I should be dead on my feet. I've not been able to get to sleep very early the last couple of nights - midnight or after - but still up around 8 am. Maybe it is because I've been able to step up my walk to 3 laps around the MH park - that's a half mile - once a day and it's a streak for me .... well 2 days isn't much of a streak but it is a start!! Matzah only goes once around. The heat is tough on the little guy.

And, yes, I'm sane ..... I think ..... LOL ...
