Back to Goal 89

I wanted to make today a vacation day for me. Just a day off to give myself a facial and a pedicure. Sit on the dock with a book and a glass of iced tea. I've wanted to do this for weeks but the weather has been lousy or I've been scheduled at the store or.... Today looked like the best bet for the next week or two but the weather probably won't be good enough to enjoy the dock or the deck.

I suppose I could compromise and do the facial and pedicure and use the rest of the day to pay bills, vacuum and do some general cleaning. That would get it out of the way in case the weekend is as lovely as predicted. I have to work 5-10 p.m. Saturday night and also the night of the 4th (groan) so going anywhere either day is really out of the question.

Why is it so easy for my husband to ignore things that need doing and just sit and read for hours on end? Why is it so hard for me to ignore dust or clutter? Why do I feel guilty whenever I am not doing useful?

Back to Goal: Day 88

Monday, Monday. Here we go again.

A couple of years ago I joined a group of artists who were committed to a year's vision and the tasks to achieve the vision. A small group of us decided to join a yahoo group for support and accountability. I set my goals and made weekly and monthly goals for myself and most of the time I met them. The whole process was very powerful. There are still 3 of us active on the list and every Monday I look over last weeks' goal, report on how I did and set the new ones/ Its habit.

So....I guess that's what I have been trying to do on Sunday for weight management. But I haven't been able to be quite as specific with the meals and exercise as I can be with art. The gym dates I can set for the week: Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Walking and kayaking are weather limited but it looks good for this week. Meal plans need to be more specific. I'm working on it. I think it will be better when I have fewer hours at the store. No wonder I had so much trouble when I worked 40+ hours a week and spent 2 hours a day commuting to an office!

Sunday again. The week goes by in a blur sometimes. Time to plan for next week.

For the next couple of weeks I'll be working more hours than I like but we have two new employees who will start their training this weeks so I am keeping my fingers crossed. My manager told me once they trained she will be able to cut my hours back to 10-15 a week most of the time. In the meantime I just need to deal with it cheerfully.

Exercise continues to be the challenge but I will be able to get to my classes the gym 4 times next week instead of two. And unless the monsoons return I should be able to get out and walk and maybe even paddle my kayak.

I still need to plan my meals for the week. I will need to pack my lunch twice and my dinner once so I need to plan for leftovers. But right now I'm tired of cooking. I need to find some fresh ideas. Time to sit down with the new issue of Cooking Light but I have a long day--I have to hang a quilt show after work. Tomorrow may be a better day to plan.

I also go through phases where I'm sick of cooking and get sort of "lost" as to what to make anymore. That's usually when I'll pull out my crock pot or my pressure cooker and try a few things - often just made up of stuff I mix together. The only problem is when you've made something that turns out great and you can't remember exactly what you threw in the pot to make it so good! :-)

Have a good week this week!

Back to Goal: Day 86

I see sunlight for the first time since Monday. It will take a few sunny days to dry the wet woods but its a start. And hopefully town with be busy today. Its a long day at work when the store is not full of people.

Yesterday was a day full of challenges and I met most of them. Embarking on a 3 hour drive at 6:45 rules out breakfast at home but I packed strawberries, yogurt and a bit of cereal and stopped at 8:00 to eat it. Had to eat in the car because it was 52 degrees and raining. First meeting was in a coffee shop. Treated myself to a fancy coffee drink but had it made with skim milk and sugar-free syrup so it was only a minor indulgence.

The second meeting was to view the gallery where I will have a solo show next May-June. Its beautiful. I am so excited and I have much work to do it get ready. Annie rode with me so we had a walk after the gallery. It was fun to explore a town I hadn't visited in over 25 years. We passed some fun little eateries and at one I picked up a salad to-go for the drive home. Again it was eaten in the car at a rest-stop since it was raining again by then. I was grateful that it was dry when we walked.

Then last night we went out for a belated anniversary dinner. Did fine but for the bread. Why is it always the bread? I supposed because I don't eat much bread at home and the fresh baked bread and rolls in restaurants are so special. Said no thanks to dessert.

Studio 23 in Bay City. Its right downtown on the river. Its a gorgeous facility. I had not been to Bay City in years and was pleased to see that downtown looks good.

I will need about 25-30 pieces of work for the show. Probably at least 10 large pieces and the rest smaller. The setup is very flexible and I do have some work already. Once my work hours go back to 10-15 a week I should be able to get on track. We have 2 new employees who start training this coming week. We were slow today & they let me go early. Sun is out & I'm going for a walk.

No morels except for the 2 DH found in the yard.

Yes, the dreaded bread basket. And, no I can't ask the server to take it away if others are enjoying it. And it really was good.

So glad that yesterday worked out well for you. How exciting to have your own show coming up. Although it seems way off, the time will fly and it will be here before you know it! Is there a set number of pieces you need for the show or is it a min/max? (Sun has been peeking through today, but still more gray than sun)
One more ?, did you ever find/pick the morels?

Back to Goal: Day 85

Wednesday night I dreamed of beets, or more specifically beet greens. I dreamed I was at a large farmers market with an enormous table full of beets. I was asking customers if they were going to cook the greens and offering to buy them if they were going to discard them. Its obvious my subconscious was aware of something.

Yesterday morning the rain eased up a bit and I decided to brave the farmers market. My favorite organic farm was there with garlic scapes (for pesto), spinach and strawberries. But just down the way I spied beet green. Actually they were seedlings--tiny beets that were pulled to thin out the planting. I bought a big bag. I cooked half last night in my favorite pasta dish--beets, dried cherries and toasted almonds--adapted from a Cooking Light recipe.

I think its a riot that I dream about veggies and get excited about what I score at the farmers market.
