another rough week

Well, Last week has been tough. And I am not sure why. I have been tired, not feeling well and really low energy level. In the past , whenever I have been tired , or sick, I have made not so good choices. I consistently crave comfort food. I do good with breakfast and lunch but by afternoon It starts, and potion control goes out the window. I am trying to stay motivated, and II know what I have to do, I just need to stay strong and do it.

Why do I want to lose weight?

This was the question spark coach posed to me to blog about today. After thinking about it there is no one reason. Yes i want to feel better, have more energy, be healthier. I really would like to be able to dance again. I used to take ball room dance for many years and it was something I really loved, and it was something that kept me very motivated to keep my weight somewhat in check. When financial difficulties started and raising 4 kids i could no longer afford to do that, and I still cant afford to do it. When I had to give up the dance I think I just gave up on myself.
The other big reason is I want to feel attractive, sexy, etc. I am now 50 yrs. old . and i have felt like a "mom" fo so long. Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against being a mom, But I feel that one aspect of my life took over, and the rest of me got buried somewhere. I know they teach you to feel good about yourself in the body you are in, and embrace your age, its just a number etc. etc. but that is not how I feel. I am tired of being over weight , and blah. Maybe that is being vain, I dont know , but I want to lose the weight to feel sexy!


What things REALLY WORKED for me this past week

Hey guys...
Well, I am a little over 1 week in so I figured I would write about what worked for me this week. As I posted earlier I am a working mom with 4 kids, so trying to eat healthy and get in my fitness time is difficult. I guess I will start with food.

-Kept a bowl of fresh FRUIT right on the counter so I would see it every time I walked in the kitchen
- FROZEN strawberries, rasberries and blueberries. I would scoop out a cup. but them in a plastic container. They would defrost when I went to work and I would pour a CHOBANI YOGURT over them for a snack.
- Lightly salted ALMONDS. I bought a container then divided them into portion sizes into baggies so I could just stick a baggie in my purse and run out the door. { i actually did 1/2 suggested serving which was about 14 almonds, 85 calories and 8 grams fat.
-INSTANT OATMEAL is my go to breakfast. I add in 1Tbls. CRAISINS and 1 Tblsp. WALNUTS. I measure out 1 cup SKIM MILK put 1/2 in to cook oatmeal and drink the other 1/2.
- EGG BEATERS- they have a southwestern flavored one that has a nice kick to it. I add 1/2 cup FROZEN DICED PEPPERS and ONIONS{ very convenient, i dont have to chop, or worry if its gone bad in the fridge, just scoop!} and 1 TBSp. reduced fat shredded cheese. Great omelette for breakfast or lunch.
- JOSEPHS PITA BREAD small size i think about 80 calories. These are great!. I stuff just about anything into them. They are also good if you over toast them a bit{not burned} and break them into pieces, then dip into HUMMUS.
- Making a big pot of homemade soup with lots of veggies. I froze 1/2 in individual portions.
_ CHEF MEGS SLOW COOKER SALSA CHICKEN great recipe, good over rice, and stuffed in the pita.

* I keep a 1 cup measuring cup, bright red , ontop my water cooler at home to remind me to drink water. This has actually worked. Whenever I pass by I just grab it, fill it up and drink!

* doing just 10 minutes of exercise a day was a great way to get back into fitness ! I joined The JANUARY JUMPSTART and the 10 MIN. FITNESS CHALLeNGE. The 10 min. videos are great and no matter how busy or tired I am that day I know can do just 10 min. And YAY! i did it.
*I joined SPARK COACH! This has helped a lot to keep me focused and motivated. Every morning I get up and do my check ins and watch a 2-3 min. video and this really helps me focus in on what I need to do .

My biggest challenge is dinner and portion sizes, So If any of you guys have any helpful hints or ideas I would love to here from you. I hope this helped some of you and good luck to all this week! KAT

Not my usual New years resolutions

I have been doing alot of thinking this past week. Every year, for the past 15 years, my resolutions have always sounded like " I need to lose 20, 25,30 pounds by my birthday in March", or "I will go to the gym 4-5 days per week". And I can tell you that I was good for a week or 2 and life would happen and those goals/ resolutions would go flying out the window. June would come and I would try again, I would lose 5-10 pounds over the summer, then school would start back up in september{I work for the school district} and within a month or 2 those pounds would be right back on, and lo and behold its January 1st again.

Do I want to lose those 30 pounds I need to , and get to the gym? Hell yes! but I continue to fail my resolutions. I am 50 this year, a mother of 4 , work full time , coach cheerleading for the town 4 months a year. I had my father pass away in Feb. 2012 from cancer after a 9 month battle. My Mom has a brain tumor and my brothers and sisters and I now take turns caring for her. In other words I am like a lot of you. Too much on our plate, and we put ourselves last.

My resolutions/goals were what I wanted but they set me up for failure.

So after doing alot of thinking this week my resolutions is a very simple one. Do something to create a positive change every day. Whether it is following my diet, doing 10 minutes of exercise, drinking one more glass of water, saying no to a cookie. I may not be able to do all those things every day, but every little choice I can make , to make me healthier, stronger, happier. will add up. I may not lose the weight in the time frame I want. But I will lose it.

I also think that along with making positive changes for my diet/health, I need to make that for my every day life as well. And that change is in my outlook on life and with my family friends and coworkers. I found that saying something positive , and having a positive outlook can have a domino effect. In the past when people asked "how are you doing" I have always answered with what ever negative or stressful had been happening in my life. I need to find the positive in every day. And yes there is positive! Even when things have been at their worst, I can look outside and see the beauty in nature, or look through my photo album at pictures of a family trip that we had such a good time at, and smile at the memories.

Spreading that positivety around me , will create a happier and healthier environment. Complimenting a co-workers shirt will put her in a good mood , doing something special or complimenting my husband will put him in a good mood. So being surrounded with happier people will make me happier and less stressed

So that is my resolution. To make as many positive changes I can each day.
