Day 9-10: Getting There

Friday, March 29, 2013

Starting to feel a bit like I used to when I limited my food intake and moved more, which is great. Isn't it weird that how when you are not paying attention to what you eat, you can forget what actual hunger feels like. I had two good days, especially considering I went out to eat lunch with a friend.

I decided to take the offer from the state and start work on 4/8. I'll be working in the same building as my husband. This week has been a one of transition for Keira too as she moves to a new school (and a much older set of toddlers) and spends time with her nanny.

I'm trying to find peace. I feel like worry is taking over my life recently and it's affecting my sleep and health. Mulling over taking a weekend away next weekend in order to regroup before I start the new job.

Huge congrats on the new job!! And I certainly can understand worry/stress...so just remember to take one thing at a time. Sometimes it is helpful to write out what is stressing you and then come up with small, easy solutions to ease the burden. Just remember that oftentimes when we worry it is about things that never even come to fruition so all that time wasted on it was just that...wasted time. Hang in there, girlie!! You're already hitting your groove, so keep going!

Worry is a wasted emotion. Take care of the things you can control and put the things you can't on the back burner. A mini vacation is certainly within your control. I say go for it! Best of luck in your new job.

I say go away- it might seem completely counter-intuitive and you might have 50 reasons why not.... but i think it is those times when getting a mini change of scenery always helps me so much! The thing is I never even "remember" that until I go, come back and think: Why did I think twice about it?!?!
I am trying hard to string some good days together too- not sure if hard enough-LOL-but I think if I keep trying, things are going to start coming together...

Congratulations on your new job and I think it's a great idea to take some time away before you start this new chapter in your life!

I keep a gratitude journal and try to write in it daily (even if it's just the word "grateful") This is what I wrote a few days ago about worrying:

3/26 - Grateful for:
- the times when I realize that the things I'm worrying about don't need to be addressed today and, like a grocery store receipt, can be crumpled up and tossed into the universe for another day.

Enjoy your weekend!

I too am finding my food choices are "key" to my feeling my best. If you can I would take that weekend away. A little R&R is such an amazing boost when you have been under stress.

Hope Keira adjusts quickly and your worries are a thing of the past.

Wishing you and your little family a blessed Easter.

Anyway, glad you are on a roll, and how cool that you will be working in the same building as your hubby! You guys can carpool together!

Day 8 - Committing

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Yesterday my Dietbet started. For those who don't know, it's a competition to lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks. You put up real money into the pot and whomever meets the goal splits the pot. So if you meet your goal, you're guaranteed your money back - maybe more. Here's the link if anyone is interested: http://www.dietbet.com/games/11434

It was a pretty good day on the whole. Keira was feeling a lot better, though she's been waking at night recently. I got some work done and got my offer letter. I start my new job on April 8 and I sent a notice to one of the firms I work part-time for that I would be wrapping up then and they said they are going to send me an offer too! So I might have a couple of things to choose from. In any case, big changes ahead.

We went to see my grandmother because we missed her party the day before and probably ate a few too many leftovers, but I definitely exercised restraint. When I came home, I rode the exercise bike for a half an hour and tried out my new FitBit. Today is the first day I'm using it all day, so we'll see how it works out. One thing I noticed is that it sometimes calculates my time in the car as steps. Any other users notice that?

Hey.. I'm on FitBit too. I've noticed that bumpy roads do sometimes come up as steps. On days that I drive alot, I go for a higher step goal for myself.

ROCKMAN6797 3/26/2013 4:14PM

It will, especially if it is a bumpy ride.
Some just leave the data alone but if you are interested in deducting those steps you can enter the following

Automobile or light truck (not a semi) driving

in the Fitness section of your FitBit page and it will deduct the steps counted during the time period you spent driving.

With regards to the job offers, I guess it is true that when it rains it pours!

FANTASTIC news with having another job offer to choose from.

With the Fibbit, stride length as FMREES mentioned is key. However, with a bumpy ride my hubs and I get a lot of Floors. He's a truck driver, so you can imagine how many floors he gets from the rig.

I love the sleep tracking and just started using the alarm in addition to keeping up with the steps.

glad to hear that you got to visit your grandmother and that Keira is doing better. I'm going to check out the dietbet site you mentioned. sounds motivating.

ah - having choices is always nice.. may the better offer win the prize of you!

I hadn't noticed the deal with the fitbit and driving - I will have to check but now that you mention it, it kinda makes sense based on how it works, especially if its in a pants pocket or some such place. I do sync it with SP, although I use it mostly for the total miles - to offset the double counting I delete the entry in miles and totals as I manually enter what I actually do as work-out steps (I don't count the steps from couch to fridge as workout steps emoticon)

Enjoy your new committment and good luck with the bet!

Days 4-7 - More Illness, But It's a Brand New Week!

Monday, March 25, 2013

Yes, no updates for the last few days. But it's a brand new week and I feel recharged again.

Here's what happened:
emoticonKeira wrapped up at her old daycare on Thursday.
emoticonThen we went for her doctor's appointment on Friday. I was surprised that the pediatrician expressed concern about her not standing or walking unassisted yet because I've heard of kids who didn't walk til 18 months.
emoticonThen she threw up and had a nasty virus all weekend which made me miss my grandmother's 90th birthday party.

So it hasn't been the most fun lately. But I did learn a lot from tracking last week. I'm starting my DietBet and feel motivated to do better and look better and most importantly, FEEL BETTER.

And it's finally starting to feel a little like spring. I also got my offer letter, at long last! So it looks like I'll be starting a new job in a couple of weeks!

Day 3 - Can't wait to get out of there...

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Yesterday was another trying day. Keira will just not settle in daycare since her favorite teachers left. She's acting like we just started going there (we started in September!) with the separation anxiety and screaming and crying. She cried so hard she puked. Ugh. I hope that the new place is a little better for her. But we just need to get out of there. Today is her last day. Her "old" teachers start as nannies on Monday and we start easing her into the new school on Wednesday.

I also had three clients come in for appointments yesterday and they all hired me! Whew, though a little nerve wracking to have all the added responsibility.

I tracked all my food and went over. It's hard to believe I used to track so consistently and pretty much always get under. It's easy to slide back into old habits. I also went for a long walk. And I joined a DietBet group starting next week. 4 weeks to lose 4% of my body weight. I'll weigh in on Sunday night. I definitely need the added motivation.

I like the SP 5% challenges - teams compete against each other in a virtual race by posting exercise minutes=miles... The current one is 1/2 way through its 8 weeks - the next one would probably start up mid-late May-ish
In the meantime good luck with your DietBet group and getting back into the tracking

Agree that the motivation is good... my BF is in a 6-month challenge with a friend of his and they are both losing weight - about 15 pounds each in 2 months! Everytime he wants a treat or an extra serving, all he has to do is think of "Fat Richie" beating "Larry Pig" and he walks away! I have to LOL though because only men could be motivated by calling each other fat and pig!

Day 2 - More snow, less fun!

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Yep, another freaking snow day!

Keira's school was closed, meaning I'm home with her all day as she gets antsy about going places and generally in a bad mood. I had to reschedule clients and occupy a toddler all day. I love spending time with her, but being locked in all day just me and her doesn't always make for the most pleasant of times.

Plus she's taken to pointing at the TV and screaming "MA! MA! MA!" Nope that's not "mama," that's what she calls Mickey Mouse. She takes OnDemand quite literally. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Keira's demand. It's tempting on days like yesterday to just let her veg out with Minnie, but I try to limit the TV. Still, we ended up watching three episodes scattered throughout the day.

I worked when she napped, then cooked dinner, and worked more after she went to bed, and I was just about to get on the treadmill, when I just snapped, "no mas" and crawled into bed with a book. I don't regret it, actually. I needed to decompress without the buzzing of the 'mill.

Food? Eh. It wasn't horrible, but I always tend to eat more when I'm stuck at home.

Today will be better.

I think I end up eating because I am bored and have easy access to food. It doesn't help that small children seem to need to eat more often and I take cues to eat then too. They can't eat alone. :)
