More About the Summer Accountability Challenge

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Anyone can join!!!

This started as a challenge I posted in a private team of mine to get me accountable to myself and all of you for my food and exercise choices. But I'm also doing it in blog format in order to let everyone on SP join in.

The challenge will run from 7/9-9/9. All you have to do is complete a beginning template (found here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=4956144
) listing your stats and ultimate goals for the next two months and a weekly check-in which I will post every Monday (the first one is here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_pu
blic_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=49
61709
).

Just cut and paste and use your own emoticons and style. Commit to filling out a start-up questionnaire, check-in every week and post your end thoughts and stats. Simple as that. Just post your own to your blog.

Some people will want to lose 2 lbs this summer and some 20, but that's OK. It's more about making a plan for yourself in three areas (nutrition, fitness, and wellness) and sticking to your plan as much as possible each week, finding out what your strengths and weaknesses are, and what you can realistically achieve given your busy life.

Let's have a happy and healthy summer!

I think it's cool that you are trying to get everyone involved! I am actually staying away from any official challenges this summer. But, that does not me, that I am not challenging myself or living with intention.

I'll cheer you on!

I love the challenge you've posted but I'm still on the fence for myself about joining. I'll be keeping an eye out for all of you guys who are doing it though!

emoticonSUMMER ACCOUNTABILITY CHALLENGE START-UP emoticon

emoticonMy starting weight is [235].

emoticonI'm going to make July and the rest of summer great by [being as active as possible, building up my running mileage, eating a lot of fruit and vegetables, finishing my articles, and enjoying these next two months on the beach with my daughter before she starts daycare].

emoticonMy weight loss goal for the summer is [to lose at least 15 lbs by my half marathon on 9/30. I feel like I should be able to lose 6-7 lbs a month at the weight I'm at, though sometimes my body has other ideas.]

emoticonMy fitness goals for the summer are [3-4 days of running (one short run, one long run and 1-2 interval walk-runs) to get ready for my half marathon on 9/30. I want to commit to 2 days of strength training along with a mandatory rest day.]

emoticonMy nutrition goals for the summer are [to track my food, eat "clean" snacks such as nuts, veggies and fruit, stay within my calorie range. I'm going to drink water whenever I feel like mindlessly eating or have cravings for salt and sweets. And if I still need something to eat, I will try to eat healthfully and slowly before reaching for chips or chocolate.]

emoticonI often go off-track when [others around me are drinking beer/wine or eating chips and "bad" stuff and when I have guests/visitors.]

emoticonI am going to remain accountable this summer by [checking in with friends on SP and Facebook and text message, tracking my food every day, committing to at least walking on those days I don't feel like exercising, and continuing with this challenge until 9/9.]

emoticonWill you be tracking this summer? If so, what are your daily calorie goals and weekly fitness minute goals? [Yes, I will be tracking this summer. My range right now is 1400-1650 calories per day with 300 fitness minutes per week.]

emoticonSign here: I, [KARVY09/Kristina], pledge to eat wisely and slowly and avoid binging this summer whenever possible. I vow to drink my water and to turn to clean food for snacks as a first resort (fruit, nuts, veggies) but not feel horrible about myself when I eat too many "bad" foods, because it is not the end of the world. Whenever I don't feel like exercising, I will at the very least commit to a brisk walk.

emoticonSUMMER ACCOUNTABILITY CHALLENGE WEEK ONE: JULY 9-15

emoticonThe first week of a challenge is always exciting, but I am going to commit to checking in every week until 9/9.

emoticonI need a challenge because I have a half marathon on 9/30 and I want to lose weight and stick to a training plan before then.

emoticonBy the end of this week, I want to feel healthier, lighter, and more energetic.

emoticonMy big nutrition goal for this week is going to be tracking every day and no alcohol until the weekend.

emoticonMy big fitness goal for the week is going to be completing all my training runs.

emoticonMy big wellness goal for the week is going to be getting at least 7 hours of sleep a day. (The baby sleeps, and so should I!)

emoticonMy biggest challenge in meeting these goals will be fatigue and laziness keeping me from running, general stress from family and work, letting others get me off-track with my food choices.

emoticonIf I meet all my goals this week, I'm going to reward myself with a pedicure.

emoticonIf I don't meet my goals, I'm NOT going to get discouraged and quit. I will count every step forward as progress toward the end game.

Love the idea of committing to at least walking when unable to run. I would love to run every day but know better so I commit to at least 3 days of running and 4 days of either a brisk walk outdoors or a challenging walk on the treadmill.
Keep being accountable it will bring you the results you seek!

Summer Accountability Challenge Template

Thursday, July 05, 2012

I posted this challenge in a team I'm in, but I wanted to share with you since I have been reading a lot from people wanting an accountability boost for the rest of the summer. If you want to take part, let me know and I'll try to check up on you as much as I can. I'll probably post a weekly template via blog and feel free to do so from your blog as well. I'd start a team, but honestly, I don't have that much time, and I think posting public blogs adds an additional layer of accountability. None of the questions are mandatory (i.e. you don't have to post your starting weight). This challenge will run from 7/9-9/9.

emoticonMy starting weight is ____.

emoticonI'm going to make July and the rest of summer great by ___________.

emoticonMy weight loss goal for the summer is ______________.

emoticonMy fitness goals for the summer are _______________.

emoticonMy nutrition goals for the summer are ______________.

emoticonI often go off-track when __________________.

emoticonI am going to remain accountable this summer by (examples: checking in with friends, posting on SparkPeople when I'm discouraged, using the gym as a stress relief tool) _______________.

emoticonWill you be tracking this summer? If so, what are your daily calorie goals and weekly fitness minute goals?

emoticonSign here: I, ___________, pledge to eat wisely and slowly and avoid binging this summer whenever possible. I vow to drink my water and to turn to clean food for snacks as a first resort (fruit, nuts, veggies) but not feel horrible about myself when I eat too many "bad" foods, because it is not the end of the world.     I am terrible at team participation, so I probably wouldn't join if you had started one. I've been tracking haphazardly my breakfasts (that's what has been keeping me focussed). I just got a brand new planner (July-Aug type), so this sort of goal-planning is giving me something to chew on and incorporate. Thanks.

Success

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

My first week back "on" went pretty well. I tracked during the weekdays and didn't go too crazy on the weekend (though a red (strawberry), white (whipped cream) and blue (blueberries) cake did make an appearance. I do think the 1400-1600 range will be the easiest one to stick to.

And yes, those days that were less processed and full of my beautiful cucumber, lemon and mint water, I felt a lot better.

I didn't weigh in this week because of TOM but I'm hoping for a loss soon!

First week of half training done. I skipped one interval run and just walked instead but I did make it to the gym for aqua aerobics/swimming and elliptical/ST on two nights. My "long" run was only 2 miles, but I ran it in under a 12-minute mile, which I was super surprised about since my times have been hovering around 13-minute miles lately.

Today Keira and I are off to the pool and then back up to the beach for the rest of the week. It's harder to stay on track up there, but I know I FEEL BETTER when I'm eating well and working out, so it just has to be done.

Stay active and healthy this holiday weekend!
