I had a good month exercise-wise with 1,220 fitness minutes. I can run about 2.5 miles at a time and I'm running 2-3 times per week. I completed a 5K in 41 minutes. I'm taking Keira out for walks almost every day. I only lost three pounds and my measurements dropped slightly but not that much. I know nutrition is the culprit. I was averaging about 1500-1700 calories a day during the weekdays and probably about 2000 on the weekend. I know I ate too many sweets at night, even if I did fit them into my calories for the day. I was hoping that by being a little lenient, I could still lose a pound a week, but that's proving not to be the case!
So I'm dropping my calories to around 1400-1500 during the weekdays with a little more leeway on the weekend, pledging two strength training sessions per week, three runs per week, and lots of water! I'm tracking my food over at MFP (my name is chunky_runner) and I'm going to turn to fruit, veggies and nuts as snacks before I head to sugar. I don't need to have dessert every night! I hope to get my 5K time back under 40 minutes.
Next month my gym membership restarts (I put it on hold for a year while I was pregnant) and if I don't see many results sticking to the plan in April, I hope going back to kickboxing and Zumba does something for me.
And that's about it! I've been keeping busy with baby and work!
On Keira's three month birthday, it was 85 degrees. We made it up to the beach! Some pics...

Well, my first post-preg 5K has come and gone! It was a great time, with a field of almost 5,000 racers, it was nice not to feel alone at the back of the pack. But yeah, I’m carrying about as much baggage as I did when I first started running, and I’m still not finished with the Couch to 5K program, so I’m pretty pleased with my time.
Jon and Lori and I planned to catch the bus over to Davis Square where the race was to be held, but I got a notification on my phone that they weren’t going all the way there because of the race. So we legged it 1.8 miles to the race, (a bus passing by wouldn’t stop for us when we flagged it down … fun!) and made it just 5 minutes prior to race start.
The race started at 11am, which is standard for winter/early spring races because they try to catch the warmest weather they can. Too bad we had some unseasonably warm weather and the temp approached 70 degrees at race start, because it was definitely one of the warmest races I’ve run. I stayed with the 10-minute milers at the start (the slowest corral) and plenty of them passed me, but there were also a fair amount of walkers in my way… it’s always a pain in the ass to dodge walkers 4-people astride at a race. People were on their cell phones! Why pay to enter a race? You can do that ANYTIME ANYWHERE.
Anyways, rant over. Despite the “flat” billing, there were nice rolling hills on the course and the field was so large that all the streets were completely blocked off, which I love, because as a slower runner, they sometimes start to reopen the streets when I’m running, and the traffic sometimes has no mercy. I liked that! I also liked that a lot of people were dressed crazily. I don’t know how people run with so much “bling” (I once tried to run with some Mardi Gras beads and ditched them like 3 minutes in), but it definitely is fun to watch!
I managed to run the whole thing except for a bit at the water stop (where I poured a cup on my head, I was feeling so hot!) and at the largest hill of the course at Mile 3, albeit slowly. For the last half mile, I could see the balloon arch finish line, which was nice motivation to keep going.
In the end, I posted a 41:01 time and 13:12 pace. I wanted to come in under 40 minutes, but I have to keep reminding myself:
I just had a baby 12 weeks ago…
I’m not in the shape I used to be when I was running 31-32 minute 5Ks…
And it’s OK!
I look like an Oompa Loopa, with that nice orangey-red post race glow! We got cool medal/bottle opener medals at the end of the race and tried to get into a pub, but quickly realized every place was super crowded and we’d rather be drinking beer outside in the backyard than inside a stinky pub, so we decided to walk back. Man, that was a much slower walk than the walk to the race and the last half mile was kind of a killer…
So Hawaiian and buffalo chicken pizza in my meager backyard chased with some Sam Adams Alpine Spring and some Richie’s Slush on a 75-degree Sunday in mid-March. Aw, hells yeah. And I saw my good friend Lori (MAMALITTLE) for the first time in over three months!
Sure, call it a comeback.

Well I finished Week 5 of C25K and it went well! Definitely finding it easier this go-around, so I'm glad that all of my fitness didn't disappear during my pregnancy. Immediately after the 20-minute run, I started feeling sniffly and that turned into a full-blown head cold that was bad on Sunday, OK on Monday, and terrible yesterday. So I haven't started Week 6 yet (will do so tonight) and I have a race next Sunday. I think it will go fine. I know I won't post the best of times, but that's not the goal. The goal is to finish strong and to hopefully complete it without walking.
I wish I could say I've been dropping pregnancy weight like it's hot, but... uh, not. I weigh exactly the same as I did last time I wrote. The difference?
My wedding rings fit again (they haven't fit since September).
I squeezed back into my ski jacket (thank goodness, because it got cold again last week and the one coat that fit me and doesn't look like a muu muu had to go to the dry cleaners). I'm also fitting in a lot of size 14-16 pants that didn't fit until just recently.
I've lost inches. Since my last blog almost 3 weeks ago, I lost 1.5 inches from my neck, 3.5 from my waist, and 1 from my upper arm! (Hips and thigh stayed the same.)
So it's progress. I wish I could do more, fitness-wise, but I've gotta focus on this beauty and getting some work done during her naps!

I'm still around, and I still read blogs and friend feed though I don't always have time to comment. I'm mostly on the other website right now ( www.chunkyrunner.com ) and I am on another fitness website with a great iPhone app for tracking food and exercise.
I have committed to tracking my food in February and with the exception of a few days, I'm well under my modest calorie goal (I'm easing my way in, so I'm just trying to keep it under 1700 calories for now, aiming for a pound loss a week). The scale hasn't budged really. In fact, this week, despite having a calorie burn where I should have lost 1.5-2 lbs, I GAINED one.
Frustrating. And yeah, I ditched the old scale and got a new one after the old one had me losing and gaining 10 lbs from day to day. I also got a tape measure to get a more accurate idea of where I'm going. I figured I'd lose at least half of my baby weight easily, but it looks like that's not going to be the case. I've only lost about 17 lbs so far (and that includes 7.5 lbs of baby). It's annoying how quickly I put on the baby weight and I never went crazy with the food either. Sigh.
Keira turned 8 weeks old yesterday and slept from 8:30pm-4:30am last night! If she keeps this up, I'll definitely have a lot more energy to work out more. Right now, I'm running C25K three times a week and trying to do long walks at least twice a week (the excellent freakishly warm weather has made this easier!). I'll finish Week 3 tonight, leaving 4 weeks to go until my first post-pregnancy 5K on March 18.
I also found a freelance job writing legal practice manuals. The pay is not fantastic, but it will look great on my resume. I also have been doing citizenship applications for some clients. It's nice to have the flexibility to work from home and look after Keira. Of course, I know it won't always be easy, especially when she's more mobile, but in the meantime, I'll take what I can get.
So that's my update.

But they will be simple to start...
1. Lose 50 lbs of baby and post-November 2010 weight (my lowest weight was in October 2010... 50# will get me back there)
2. Restart C25K this month
3. Stop with the junk food and sweets people keep bringing over (had Five Guys today, so good but need to limit myself)
4. Get reacquainted with veggies
5. Walk every day
