November was a tough one with celebrations at the beginning and end of the month. It started out with me finding out that I passed the bar exam (I was sworn in this morning!) and ended with Thanksgiving and my birthday. Overall, it went pretty well, though I missed a few of my goals.
26 days of cardio exercise
1 day above calorie range (not counting Thanksgiving)
Tracked 29 days
1635 fitness minutes
13,006 calories burned
Continued strength training 3x per week
Ran 5K outside without stopping!
NOVEMBER GOALS and RESULTS:
-Continue to track everyday
I continued tracking everyday except for Thanksgiving, where I gave myself a pass. Even with the Thanksgiving pass, I still think I remained under 2,000 calories for Turkey Day which is unbelieveable.
-Lose 8-10 pounds
I lost 7 pounds this month, which was just shy of goal, but you know what? It's probably not going to come as easy as it has been in the past, and I need to be OK with that. As long as I'm continuing to challenge myself and am sticking to a sensible food plan, then I'm getting healthy. The weight will come off eventually.
-Increase fitness minutes to 1800+
1635 fitness minutes for the month, so goal was not met. I chalk this up to substituting the 30 Day Shred and home strength training for some of the gym strength training, which doesn't add up to as many minutes on the strength tracker. Still, I burned more calories than last month when I did 1765 minutes.
-Continue strength training 2x week at gym. Get equipment for home training.
I didn't get to the gym for strength twice per week, but I did strength train at least 3x week using my new stability ball, resistance bands and hand weights! It's really cool to have the equipment to do all that stuff at home!
-Run 5K outside at least twice a week.
Well this didn't happen, but I did attempt it a few times this month. Luckily I was still able to...
-Complete the 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day
39:45! I was shocked as I hadn't even run that time on the treadmill. Must have been a mix of the adrenaline, springy grass, and the cold that kept me moving!
-Healthy cooking at home at least 5 days per week
I made this goal! Next month I need to focus more on adding new meals and recipes to my repertoire, but we ate out less than we had done in the past, which was great for calorie control and the wallet.
-Portion control and moderation on Thanksgiving and no leftovers
Thanksgiving went very well. Like I said before, I think I came in under 2000 calories and exercised a lot of portion control and moderation. I had leftovers for dinner the next day, but skipped the dessert and didn't have leftovers for the rest of the weekend.
-Enjoy birthday without big food or drink rewards
My birthday went well! I went out to eat: I had a cocktail, half of my free entree and a third of my free dessert (molten chocolate cake, yum!) and came in within my calorie range. Big thanks to all of you for all of your goodies and wishes yesterday! I love you guys!
Dun dun dun. Christmas. New Year's. It's here. And we're going to get through all of our holidays in style. SP has a great countdown calendar with strategies for the holidays that everyone should take a look at. So here they are:
-Continue to track everyday (except Christmas)
- Finish 2009 in the 210s (8 pounds lost); Ambitious, and I won't be heartbroken if I miss this goal, but I'm going to put it out there
-1780 fitness minutes to finish 2009 at 10,000
-Strength train at least 3x per week; strength train during TV time
-Advance to Level 3 of the 30 Day Shred
-Gym time at least 4 days per week (I've started to slack here)
-Integrate one new recipe into my repertoire each week
-Portion control and moderation at holiday parties and Christmas
-2 drink limit at all parties
-Finish Christmas shopping and wrapping by mid-month

Measurements time, yet again. Last month I was a bit underwhelmed with my measurements considering I'd burned more calories than ever before. How will November stack up? I weighed myself post-Thanksgiving and I didn't gain any weight, so that's a relief...
Body Part - June - July - August - September - October - November
Waist - 46 - 43.5 - 41 - 39 - 39 - 37.5
Hips - 53 - 50.5 - 49.5 - 48.5 - 48 - 47
Neck - 16 - 15.5 - 15 - 14.5 - 14.5 - 14
Thigh - 32 - 31 - 30 - 29 - 28 - 27
Upper Arm - 16 - 16 - 15.5 - 15 - 14.5 - 13.5
Inches lost since October: 5
Waist - 1.5
Hips - 1
Neck - 0.5
Thigh - 1
Upper Arm - 1
Inches lost total: 24
Waist - 8.5
Hips - 6
Neck - 2
Thigh - 5
Upper Arm - 2.5
5 inches in a month! In less than six months, I've lost at least two feet worth of inches off my body. November finally marks the month that my upper arm is smaller than my neck, THANK GOD. That was an embarrassing thing to admit.

Hi everyone! Hope you enjoyed your holiday and are back to healthy habits. My Thanksgiving didn't go too badly food-wise. I tried everything but I didn't go crazy and since it was basically my only meal for the day (I had a fruit and soymilk smoothie before my race) I think I might have even come in under 2000 calories! I didn't drink either (just didn't feel like it) so that definitely helped.
So, the Turkey Trot. I kind of astounded myself. I woke up at 6 a.m. and it looked pretty clear, no rain, so I was excited. Then I drove 30 miles north to where the 5K was and everything was COVERED in cloud and fog. I parked and it was so cold and chilly and damp that I almost felt like getting back in my car and driving back! It was just kind of a bummer being there alone with all these families around and I just had second thoughts. But then I thought about all of you guys and seriously, it did push me through. I did some stretches and some warm up jogging and before I knew it, the gun went off and everyone was running.
The most surprising thing is that the run was almost entirely on grass! I was anticipating really muddy trails and getting splattered all over, but there really wasn't all that much mud! The grass actually was pretty springy, which I think helped my time. Also, the music helped a lot. Halfway through, I hardly felt like I was running and I put a couple of really high tempo ones to get me pumped up about 2/3 through the race. When I ran to the finish line, it finally dawned on me that I RAN the whole thing!!! I couldn't believe it. It was my first time running 3.1 miles outside! And THEN I saw my time: 39:45. I hadn't even run that time on the treadmill. So needless to say, I was ecstatic, and it was the perfect start to my Thanksgiving.
Congrats to all my Sparkbuds on their respective Trots! I'll get around to congratulating you properly on at some point this weekend!
Yesterday I slept over my aunt's house and we went out shopping at 6 a.m. It actually wasn't that busy and filled with crazies this year! I got some great finds at the Christmas Tree Shop (a New England bargain store) including $40 leather Isotoner gloves for $1.50. We went to about six other stores during the day and I've gotten about three-quarters of my Christmas shopping done now. Also, two pairs of Size 16 pants for $8 each! So I had a great time. My aunt brought some cookies and crackers for the trip, so basically I subsisted on those for the whole day until we had Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner. I was exhausted and went to bed at 9 p.m.!
And today is going to be a day for relaxation. I'm wiped from the holiday even though I didn't host anyone! Will do some 30DS and other exercises this evening...
