Pants Drawer Cleanout!

I just cleaned out my "pants drawer" for the first time in a long time, and it was quite an inspirational experience! I felt like squealing quite a bit, but I didn't...but man does it feel good to have pants that were too tight last year be too BIG!! I had to take a couple of "fat pants" pictures which I haven't gotten off of the camera yet, but I figured I had better preserve that moment for posterity because I don't ever plan to wear a size 14 again. :P

My mom has always fussed at me for having too much clothes, and my pants drawer has always been stuffed...well now it's half empty! The pile of "too big" clothes was bigger than the pile of "clothes that fit." This is just such a monumental moment for me...I have only 2 pairs of shorts and 3 pairs of capris left that fit! Guess I'm gonna have to go shopping come summer time, huh?

    What a great feeling that must be! I can't wait until I can do the same! Your blog entry is quite an inspiration to me, because when I created my goals, my number one goal was "fit into my old jeans." I've got sizes to fit me all along the route to my final goal, all ones I've left behind during my weight gain.

Go shopping, girl! You deserve it!

Change of goals

Since I have been on SP for over a month, I decided to go in and change the goals I set up when I first started the program, since meeting those goals has become a habit for me. (Yay!) My first order of business is to make a blog entry every day, to talk about what I'm thinking and feeling. I've always been a bad journaler, so this will be a challenge.

Another goal I set is to eat at least one item of fresh produce every day. This will also be a challenge since sometimes I don't have fresh produce around, but I have been trying to do so more often. Maybe this goal will inspire me to keep that up until it becomes a habit.

I am also going to go for a walk every day. Even if it's just up and down the street. I want to maintain some sort of activity level all of the time outside of my cardio workouts at the rec, so I think a daily walk is an effective way to do this.

I changed my long term goals to be more about motivation, because although I am still motivated, I want to make sure I stay that way and that I stick with this program until I reach my ultimate goal of 120 lbs. That "time of the month" seems to be putting a bit of a damper on my overall motivation right now because although I don't really have any water weight "gain," per se, I have water weight plateau instead, which is a bit disappointing. I'm eating super low sodium today, so hopefully I will see more results when I weigh in tomorrow morning than I have been seeing for the past few days. (I am a daily weigher just because it helps keep me on track and motivated, but if I see a little fluctuation I don't see it as a big deal because I know there's no way it's fat weight in just 24 hours. I think if I was only weighing once per week I might see fluctuation as a bigger deal, so daily is what works best for me.)

  


Stupid monthly "friend"

Well, it appears Aunt Flo has situated herself on top of my weight loss and is obscuring it with her sheer unpleasantness...I was 145 this morning, I'm assuming from water weight gain, and I haven't "lost" anything in a week, so it seems my monthly "friend" is hiding my loss for this week. :( Oh well, maybe I'll be in for a nice surprise when I step on the scale in a few days and it's down more than just a pound from my last logged weight of 144. (I'm not logging this because I'm confident it's water weight from hormones.) I suppose the one real consolation is that now that I am working out on a regular basis, my period should be much less painful. I guess we shall see.

  


30 days on Spark

Today is my 30-day anniversary on SP, and I've lost 14 pounds so far. I've seen a lot of changes in my life in the past 30 days as well. I've become much more active and have actually come to love exercising. When I get bored now, I exercise instead of wasting time on the computer. I'm eating much healthier, and actually reading nutrition labels at the grocery store before I put the food in my basket. I'm looking forward to losing that next 14 pounds and getting to my first goal weight -- 130 pounds.

    Congratulations on your 30-day anniversary! I just discovered SP last week, and I'm loving it. Wow, you lost 14 lbs?!? I'm shooting for 1 lb. a week, and hoping for 5 a month. I've read through your last posts, and they are quite inspiring. Keep it up. :)

Feelin' the burn

My first day of SP strength training was yesterday, and man are my abs feeling the 24 regular crunches and 24 crunches with twist that I did. They're pretty sore but not too bad...it feels good to know that I must have gotten some benefits out of my workout yesterday. :) I cranked up the resistance on the bike for my cardio today, up to level 5 for most of the workout. That kept my heart rate around 170-175, which I feel is much more manageable than 180-185 that I was getting on the elliptical. I'm hoping it won't take too long to get to where my heart rate starts lowering during my cardio exercises.

I'm getting into the groove of eating healthily on campus and making good choices among the many, many bad ones that are available. I just wish they didn't stuff so many calories into their prepared salads...most of them are 400-600 calories before the dressing! Oh well. I guess I'll just have to stick to the salad bar, even if I do have to walk further to get to it. (Guess that's pretty good too though!)
