Low Carb High Fat

Thursday, December 11, 2014

I have been easing myself lower and lower on carbohydrates. My blood sugar is responding, and I feel much better. The food tracker has a fit everyday, but I am going to keep it up!

I agree with you and all the posts; low carb-mostly protein meals keep me satisfied longer and keep the cravings at bay.

I have never yet managed to satisfy the food tracker's perception of how many carbs I should eat! I aim for protein, which keeps me from feeling hungry an hour after eating. If I get 60+ grams of protein, I am almost always right on track with fat, but low on carbs, and it works for me. This week my partner made a great pasta, so I had that 2 days in a row, and even with portion control and staying in range, I gained slightly, and I was hungry between meals!

I am with you. High fat low carb is the only way of eating where I have a chance to not binge eat on a regular basis

19KISA71, No. I just use spring mix, some pecans, some flax seed meal, and cottage cheese. It's yummy! emoticon

I REALLY wish I liked cottage cheese. It's a fantastic snack, but I just can't get over the texture. Apples ARE delicious though! :)

GREAT facts!

    Cottage Cheese? A salad dressing?
Is it mixed with anything?

Trip to Enchanted Rock

Saturday, November 29, 2014

I went to Enchanted Rock yesterday, and had a nice hike. It was a gorgeous day, and being at the rock gave me spiritual respite. I was sore yesterday evening and took a couple tylenol before bed. I was not sore when I woke up! I guess the almost daily walks with the dogs has helped me get a bit of stamina. Yay!

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful holiday weekend!

Hi Karen, glad to see you back on SP and that you joined PLOF. I've been a member for over a year now and the one thing I'm really glad I did was join PLOF. It's a fun, intimate group that's active pretty much every day.

Enchanted Rock sounds like a nice place to go. I went rollerskating over the Thanksgiving holiday for the first time in years and had a fun time.

Take care and I hope to get to know you better on PLOF.

In general, you can gradually increase walking time by doing your regular amount one day, ten minutes more the next, repeating the two over a week or so... then go up to the new amount for a week. THEN you can add on more (every other day). Also, be sure to do STRETCHES after a big hike! Glad you enjoyed your walk!

Yes, once you get into the habit of daily exercise it becomes easier and easier. Soon you can do more than you ever thought possible.

After a harder than usual workout, I'll take advil. Being too sore hurts motivation and I want to keep at this.

Good for you. Hang in there!

Back again and learning the same lessons.

Sunday, November 23, 2014

I had to change my diabetes meds, as they were making me sick. Now I'm having to refocus and WORK on my lifestyle. It's a good thing. Just for today.

Lessons learned (I hope)

Monday, October 03, 2011

Well, I've noticed a few things in the past several weeks. Most importantly, when I am counting my carbs, my blood sugar is lower! I went through a week of counting carbs and a week of just "being careful." And I find that my blood sugar is not too bad, infact rarely high at all when I am careful. That's good. But when I am counting carbs, my blood sugar is downright GOOD.

Spark people suggests that I count carbs by keeping a food journal at least three times a week. I think that's a good idea. Of course, it would be better if I do it every day. So here it is. I'm going to promise myself at least three days a week, knowing that more is better.

Baby steps.
