halved

Wednesday, October 01, 2014

I've lived here 1 year- and paid budget electric billing based on previous owner's monthly average use. This house is twice the footage I lived in, so paying a doubled sized electric bill didn't raise an eyebrow. Well a year later and my bill is officially adjusted to what my twelve months of actual use is:

H A L F

I used half the electricity the people did who lived here before me! I have natural gas for heat, electric for everything else. 102 dollars budget bill is now 57.

Fifty-seven

I do not know where all that electricity went for the people before me, I work and play at home and don't skimp with AC (75 degrees) I did change out all the light bulbs first thing, but still.... half??????

I'm ecstatic. emoticon

That's pretty amazing. You must shut off all your lights at night when you sleep. We always a night light on all night and a few outside lights on.

Before I had all the facts I had my imagination.... well I still don't have all the facts & I still have my imagination... oh dear, I don't know what I'm talking about, but imagine if I did then I would know something I can only imagine ... or something...
Anyway Einstein said it. That guy certainly had an active imagination...

I read an article that said the drugs they are giving kids today to focus better are cutting off their day dreaming and therefore their creativity. A talk psychologist on radio said she is glad she grew up in a time where these drugs were not given out or she feels she would not be the creative person she is today. A lot of parents think high grades and getting into a great college is everything. A lot of factors makes a person financially successful and one is having creativity which means you day dream. I read a great book decades ago called, What they don't teach you at Harvard Business School" and it talks about this. I like the thoughts your little but powerful blog stirred up. Thanks for the post.

slogans & other tricks

Monday, September 29, 2014

I sit around sometimes thinking up what my journey's slogan could be-after all no one exercises 24 hours around the clock. I finally settled on this one...

My weight program is calories & exercise... but what about all the other hours in a day? How many hours have my fingers been wrapped around pencils and erasers puzzling over Sudoku, crocheting or knitting, pc solitaire, books & video games?

My dad whittled ducks and hand painted them to form a beautiful collection-his 50 pound weight loss journey was cycling & counting calories... but a man can't do that round the clock- so he whittled.

My Grandmother liked to walk daily, drink lots of water, stayed away from simple carbohydrates. Her 50 pound weight loss came with historical biographies after breakfast & cross-word puzzles after dinner.

I can't say enough about coordinating a hobby (or two or three) with one's weight journey. So here's the proverbial sign if that's what it takes to get a hobby:

Great advice! Life is too short not to have fun.

My latest adventure began in March of this year . . . and I've been making jewelry and working with metal (copper) and copper wire.

Fun stuff.

tried anything new- lately?

Sunday, September 28, 2014

My bananas are frozen, I got vanilla, almonds, ginger and a little truvia double strength natural sweetener. I'm going to see what that recipe is all about. I get the feeling it needs lots of flavoring to really spice it up or the end will be simply banana mush instead of "banana mash treats" That's what I'm trying new in my kitchen today.

here's mine
vanilla, truvia, minced dates, ginger paste, grated almonds, cinnamon and of course frozen banana - delicious!

Frozen bananas, blueberries, pineapple, etc. are staples in our freezer for year-round treats.

More recently, in an effort to combat bouts with IBS, I've begun adding coconut milk, acidophilus and aloe vera with great - and yummy - results.

Every summer my favorite treat is frozen bananas with a little milk made into a smoothie. If the banana is not sweet enough I add honey. I like your suggestion of vanilla as I love vanilla so I will add some next time.

    That sounds good!

Today's adventure: frozen cherries mixed into vanilla- and truvia-sweetened yogurt. The cherries freeze the yogurt; I sprinkled some almond chunks on top.

Villains'4

Friday, September 26, 2014

Over at Streak100 we appreciate life gets crazy- not enough sleep, not enough water, eating too much and not exercising is simply villainous!
So when one of the team is having all that trouble we decided here is a way to keep tabs. One Villain Day = four areas troubled at once.
We Call them Villains' 4 . It's the award nobody wants. In all reality most of those days don't come up very often, but if one of ours get 100 Villainous days in a row (OMG) there's an award for worst streak ever. After all, with that much going wrong there ought to be some kind of compensation (lol)
