Resisted Temptation

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

"I never resist temptation because I have found that things that are bad for me do not tempt me." George Bernard Shaw

I'm not as lucky as Bernie Shaw; things that are bad for me tempt me frequently. Usually I give in and have a little bit, just so I can put it out of my mind and carry on. Today we had a staff meeting with various scones and cheese biscuits - those cheese biscuits smelled sooo good! But I just thought of the calorie and fat content, and how I wouldn't be able to have a snack later in the evening without going "over". So I didn't have one, and after about 5 minutes and a few sips of water I didn't even think of it anymore.

Marley's Song

Monday, July 12, 2010

I'm having a lot of fun with my dog because he's sooo enthusiastic about his walks. Yesterday I made up a song (Tune: What shall we do with a drunken sailor)

What shall we do with a little black doggie
What shall we do with a little black doggie
What shall we do with a little black doggie
Early in the evening

Let's go fill up three poop bags
Let's go fill up three poop bags
Let's go fill up three poop bags early in the evening

Go to the park and chase some joggers...

Let's go...

Dig up all the flowers in the neighbour's garden...

Let's go...

Roll around on a rotten salmon...

Let's go...

Sleep on the couch the rest of the day-ay...

Let's go...

Of course "little" black doggie is a joke as he is the size of a small pony. If nothing else, I'm guaranteed privacy since none of my family will be caught dead with me when I'm singing. But they don't come on walks anyway, so at least I can have some fun. Marley likes it. Probably reminds him of his Husky relatives...

Gasp! Hot Hot Hot!

Thursday, July 08, 2010

Ok, so I was wrong when I thought summer had arrived 10 days ago. Last week it was still cold enough for my furnace to come on, but no more. 32 degrees Celsius yesterday and today, and no end in sight.

I love it, but it does cramp my workout style. During yesterday's yoga class I got so dizzy I had to stop a few times, even though I was taking it easy. Today I woke up feeling headachey and blah. My fellow nurses diagnosed me with dehydration. "You're nuts," I said, "I drink 10 cups of water every day." Then it dawned on me - that's what I drink normally; now I'll have to drink even more! So instead of two quart jugs I had four and I'm feeling much better, but I'm skipping the gym for today. Back to karate tomorrow!

On the bright side I'm not very hungry today and since I'm sloshing as I walk there's not much room for food.

Weighty Subject

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

Well, I've made 5 appointments with a personal trainer for August. Goal: learn how to work with free weights. My doctor thinks it's a good idea "but you've got to learn it." Yeah, I wasn't about to try it on my own anyway. Why August? I'll have extra time on my hands as our karate club closes down for the month. For some strange reason our Sensei wants to spend time with his family.

Great idea to learn how to use the free weights from someone who is experienced in that area.
I watch DH working out and he really needs to follow some guidelines. I have pointed him to the SP demos so he can see proper form and how fast one should do the reps.
Good luck and have fun.

Finally! Healthy Chinese Food!

Sunday, July 04, 2010

I love love love Chinese food, but it's my guilty pleasure since most of the restaurants around here are Cantonese which is not the healthiest choice (although extremely yummy). Yesterday I went to the library and found "Heart Smart Chinese Food" by Stephen Wong. Tried the first recipe today and was it ever good! I can keep the book for three weeks, so I guess there's our menu for the next three weeks

    Hi KARATE_KID;

I love Chinese food too and I don't get it too often. I do one thing, I can go to The Great Wall and they will give me the sweet and sour sauce in a pint for $1.00 and the lobster sauce in a pint for a $1:00 then I put it in small containers and make my own recipe's. Sometimes I buy the wanton soup and shrimp egg roll too. I make shrimp and broccoli and other things. I also but the special rice because it has crab, lobster, chicken, vegetables and brown rice. Then I have fun making the rest of the dishes.

Good luck with your routine exercise, healthy eating and reaching your goals. May God watch over you always.

Sounds good. I guess I will have to go to the library also. How easy was it to fix?
