Take this, evil aerobics lady!

Monday, July 18, 2011

Two weeks ago I went to this Step 1/2 class and I had to bail after 45 minutes because I was pooped. Last week I decided to go to Zumba instead, but today I felt I had to face the challenge and went back to the class. Not only did I manage to stick out the 60 minutes, I found the abs track to be a piece of cake. And, when she asked "How are you guys doing back there" I gave her a cheery wave. She seemed surprised. She don't know me very well, do she?

Congratulation on you Black belt and on your Step class. I would like to try some of them but afraid I would not be able to do it. Maybe after this chemo I will try because I will need to build up my strength. Continue with your healthy life style. God bless you always. Learn from Spark people each day.

I Love Summer!

Monday, July 11, 2011

This weekend we went to my in-laws' garlic farm for the annual harvest. They have different kinds of garlic and some they had done already, but we helped out with the bulk of it - pulled and processed over 1,000 heads of garlic in those two days.

I've only got two dozen plants of my own and they're not quite ready yet. But when we got back yesterday my raspberries are starting to ripen, my faithful old gooseberry bush is producing lovely purple berries, and today or tomorrow I'll have snow peas to pick. Tomatoes are coming along nicely too, which makes me happy after last year's disasterous container experiment. Although my in-laws were saying last year was bad for tomatoes all around, so maybe it had nothing to do with containers vs. raised bed. Maybe I'll try again next year.

Tonight at Group Power I got to talking to a lady about my own age. I was putting 5kg weights on and she was using two 1kg. That made me think I've been doing these classes for about 10 months now and have increased my weights very slowly. Actually tonight was the first time EVER I used the 5kg for my warm-up, but all went well. Of course next week we'll have a new routine so who knows how this will work out.

On Mondays I'm using the weightroom for the heavier weights and fewer reps. This routine seems to be working nicely and I've been able to increase there as well.

Cardio classes are still a real challenge. Monday I went to a Step1/2 (which is supposed to accommodate newbies and people with two left feet like me) and I had to bail after 45 minutes. On Wednesday though I went to a supposedly "tougher" class and was ok, relatively speaking.

Our karate club is very much in summer mode. I had to teach the last two classes on my own because Sensei was away. That's a totally different challenge but it's fun too. I'm happy though that he'll be back tomorrow. I don't get the greatest workout when I'm teaching as I have to consider where the juniors are at plus I have to be able to watch what they're doing and help them.

All in all I'm so thankful for my gym, and my karate club. The way work is going I'd probably be in a straight jacket by now without my exercise.

I can completely understand the gym preventing the work related crazy times! With out my gym I'd be in a padded room ha ha ha.

It sounds like things are going well, congratulations on your increased strength!

Today I did a big job cleaning out my craft room. Three garbage bags full to the Sally Ann, plus another half bag that was just junk to go out with the trash. Now my room looks a lot better, I got inspired to finish some of my UFOs, and I worked right through lunch without missing it! After all my work I rewarded myself with a turkey breast sub from Subway.

There's something about a clean house that makes it easier to breathe in and makes me calmer and happier.
Good job! You've inspired me to get stuff organized as well. There's something about crafting (I knit, crochet & spin) that seems to lend itself to clutter.

That is self discipline. It may not seem like it to people but thats martial arts right there. Great job.
