Taking more steps....

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

...because I am retired, live in a rather small home and it is just my husband and me I don't get a lot of passive steps. There just isn't a lot to clean and since there is still several feet of snow outside I can't even just walk around the yard right now.

I knew I needed more steps so first I committed to walking five laps around my house after visiting the bathroom each time. While that isn't a huge amount of steps, about 250, doing it just five times a day gave me an additional 1,000 steps.

While I do get steps through exercise I still needed an easy way to add more so decided while we were watching DVD episodes of Downton Abbey to march in place for 10 minutes during each episode.

I've stayed committed to doing these quick 10 minute marches during several programs a day and found I can add about an hour of walking to my step goal.

That made me think of how Chris Downie the founder of this site encourages 10 minutes of exercise and it hit me, perhaps he didn't mean just once a day!

I've been meeting my FitBit step goal and will soon increase my goal as the weather allows for outdoor walks...I can't wait!

Congratulations ! I love the creative spirit. I too have a small house and lots of snow. I walk around livingroom while watching tv listening to news etc. I set the kitchen timer for 10 or 15 minutes and walk around the house or march in place. I also use a walking dvd Leslie Sansone Walk away the pounds . emoticon emoticon

We track steps at my club and I give them different ways to get there steps in. do not carry laundry in a basket, take one piece at a time and put it away, then go back for the next piece. Use a mini rebounder in front of the tv, I do this all the time. A good one is if you have steps, walk down them, then up them. Great cardio.

Making myself do it....

Friday, January 17, 2014

....this morning I really did not want to work out but I am committed to moving more and hitting my step goal on my FitBit, so down into the basement I went. I have a recumbent bike and treadmill so used both of them.

Later in the afternoon I decided to do Walk Away the Pounds as well...and met my step goal easily today. I just have to make myself do it...every day!

Way to get it done when you didn't want to. I find the some of the days I want to work out the least are when I enjoy it the most.

Way to go!

Isn't the fitibit wonderful? I've got a One and I find it so helpful with my motivation. I just love seeing those steps add up! I started tracking seriously on Jan 1, and this is the longest I've ever stuck with exercise.

Feeling Stronger

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Since getting my FitBit I have done a much better job at getting my exercise in. I've been meeting my goals and it is making me feel stronger too.

The funny little thing that I have noticed is feeling stronger going up and down the stairs. My balance feels better so I don't feel as nervous going down the stairs.

I love mine, have worn one for over 2 years now. It is great tracking the stairs. I do a run, walk interval on steps. Walk down them, run up them 10 times a day. YES

FitBit for Christmas

Saturday, January 04, 2014

My husband got me the FitBit Flex for Christmas and I'm really loving it. It has
encouraged me to focus on my exercise and get back into the swing of things.

I've set my step goal a bit low, but one that is enough of a stretch to give me that
great feeling of achievement when I've reached it. I've only missed it once since Christmas, sometimes having to ride my recumbent bike later at night because I didn't get to it during the day.

The FitBit is making me want to exercise and I am so happy with that. I definitely need to work out...I do not want to feel old and without exercise my body gets much too stiff and uncoordinated.

What a great gift!

I'm focusing better on my exercise. Whether or not I lose any weight I need to feel better and the only way that will happen is by moving. Aging bodies do not do well with a sedentary lifestyle.

While I do a lot of work on the computer so I sit a lot, I also know that I have to move. I'm feeling good with a 30 minute treadmill and 33 minute recumbent bike ride this morning. I've been doing that several days a week lately and it not only makes my body feel better, it makes me feel better about me.

....make it a great day...kath emoticon
