Feeling to Busy

Monday, October 18, 2010

Today I had a follow up medical appointment. My doctor said my blood sugar levels had gone up while my weight had gone down. I have to go for more testing to confirm the results. Cholesterol levels good, blood pressure good, so some good and some not so good.

I keep feeling I am not getting enough done in a day. I have a shorter list for tomorrow so I can focus on my priorities.

I'm surprised your blood sugar went up while your weight went down. Mine went down decidedly when I lost weight. Maybe there was a lab error. I'm glad they are doing more testing.

Hope the retesting of your blood sugar is better next time. Make sure you fast before the test and endeavor to not eat too many carbs 12 hours before. Hugs.

Was it taken after a fast? Have you been under stress, it will raise it? Was you sick, when it was taken, infection will raise it?

70-110 is normal after a fast

Sorry the tests weren't what you hoped. I hope the retest turns out better. You're doing the right things, so don't let this discourage you. Perhaps you might evaluate the foods you are eating and see if there is something that might cause the spike. "Low-Fat" foods typically raise the amount of sugar. This is especially true with things like salad dressings. Hope you get things figured out. Stay positive and I hope the "shorter list" helps make your day better!!

Kali - Its good you made a shorter list of priorites. Sometime we just get overwhelmed by all we try to get accomplished in our day. Theres never enough time to do what we need to do.

Labs make errors all the time, if there was something wrong with the specimen, etc. I see that at work all the time. Before you go back and get retested watch what your eating the day before. Maybe limit your carbs etc. Sounds like you have everything else under control and thats awesome.

Keep a smile on everything will work out for the best.

I'm so sorry that the test results were not what you had hoped. I do believe that in the re-test, everything could be fine - but ... I guess you will have to wait and see. When do you go back? I'll be thinking of you until then . . .please let us know what happens!

Oh - and if you can figure out a way to get your 'to do' list shortened, prioritized, and get everything 'to-done' ... let me know what the magic formula is - I struggle with that myself!

sorry you are feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. i am a list person myself and it helps to not stress out. I like to cross each thing off as I accomplish it. it make me happy! sounds strange but it just dones. maybe a priority list would help you!

Home From the Road Trip

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Got up early today, got a Tim Horton's coffee and headed off to Home Depot. We checked out door hardware - door handle and keypad for the front door and bought 3 exterior lights. We are working on curb appeal. Then we did the 5 hour drive home, stopping for a quick lunch on the way (beef dip and turkey soup).

I am planning my week which includes getting a trainer. We are leaving here next year and I want to lose all the weight I gained here, no souvenirs! The YMCA did not have a trainer but one came on board in September. Hopefully she will be available.

Tonight I recorded my food in the Nutrition Tracker and ok for the day. Making simple foods like I did tonight - salmon, brown rice, brussel sprouts, yogurt and blueberries it`s pretty quick to record the food.

Have a great week everyone! Let`s get our 5%.

And I said I would travel again in a heart-beat in your previous blog - I've been casually invited to a wedding in Brazil in September and I am checking out whether it's serious and am considering it!

So yes - make the journeys and record the food

Traveling & Tracking Food

Sunday, October 17, 2010

The other day hubby was talking to son Andre, and Andre invited us to dinner at his place, 5 hours away. So today we got up early and headed off on our road trip. We had home made food and drinks - coffee, water, turkey sandwiches and apple slices. We listened to the radio, talked and the 5 hours passed quickly. I did most of the driving this time.

When we got to the city, I did a one hour shop for clothes and a sports watch. We are staying at our daughter's so we checked in there, had a quick change and went to son's for dinner. We arrived at Andre's at 5 PM and left at 9 M, and in bed by 10 PM. We will head off in the morning to drive back home.

You may think it's crazy to drive 10 hours round trip to have a visit and dinner, but it's worth it. The weather is great, no snow yet and this may be the last time till Christmas.

Last night I tried on my black fall coat I bought on sale a couple of years ago. It was too small when I bought it, but it was a $350 coat marked down to $90! I knew I would be wearing it soon... but 2 years later finally! I am happy!

Tonight as I recorded my food, I realized when you eat simple foods it is fast and easy to record it. Also if you have recurring foods it's easy to copy it to another day.

MT-MOONCHASER 10/17/2010 6:28PM

Where I live that's just the drive for a day in the city.

The nearest (almost) city to us is about a 4 - 5 hour drive. (And I think Regina, SK qualifies in the 4-5 hour category, also, depending on how long the border crossing takes). When I lived a bit further east from here, the closest airports were Regina, SK, Billings and Great Falls, MT. Each was about a 5 hour drive. When I have to meet the plane in Billings to pick up somebody, I usually have to leave before they get on the plane, so if there's a change in plans, I don't find out about it until I get to the airport. (No cell service for the middle part of the drive, either, get about half an hour on either end.) Now that's living in the middle of nowhere...

So that drive for dinner doesn't look too bad from my point of view. My nearest family is about 8 hours (driving or train - the only two reasonable options), so I usually like to spend a few days when I go.

It's always great to get some "new" wardrobe, isn't it? Enjoy!!

Congrats on getting into the coat!! I totally agree with you on eating/tracking repeated foods. I think I saw it on The Biggest Loser, they called it "automating" your diet. For instance, when you know what your are going to have for lunch on a daily basis, it makes it easier to have flexiblity with dinner. "Automating" is one of my secret weapons for dieting!

4-Day Diet Last Day

Friday, October 15, 2010

Daily for my health – Friday – Day 4

1. log food in Spark
2. exercise
3. in bed by 10 PM
4. start walk with Kali by 1 PM
5. daily blog
6. 2 cups of tea in the afternoon

Yesterday morning I was down 10.2 pounds in 2 days. I know it was water weight, but I feel better now. Eliminating dairy and grains for 3 days and having a low sodium diet has been ok. Last night about midnight I was hungry and realized I forgot to eat lunch, so something to remember today no skipping meals.

We went to the play Dracula last night. I have never read the book or seen the movie so it was quite interesting. There are two love stories in it. I skipped the glass of wine between acts. emoticon

Today I am running errands, doing laundry, doing some hand sewing, and preparing to go away for the weekend.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I like your daily plans. Good for you losing that weight. I remember that old diet list with the tomatoes and steak. I bet I have it around here somewhere too. Eliminating dairy and grains is what lost the weight so if you can continue cutting back on those it will keep your weight off. I have found as soon as I add back in some bread or pasta it adds back the pounds, and milk or cheese I find is bloating. The only dairy I try to stick with now is goat yogurt, easier to digest than cow yogurt, and less additives. For grains I have steel cut oatmeal and rice and am starting to buy gluten free bread if I want the occasional piece of toast as it is easier for me to digest. Have pretty well eliminated my acid reflux this way.

Sticking With 4-Day Diet

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Daily for my health – Thursday – Day 3

1. log food in Spark
2. exercise
3. in bed by 10 PM
4. start walk with Kali by 1 PM
5. daily blog

Wednesday I logged my food and calories ok. I walked Kali 5K, then went to the gym with hubby. Watched Survivor while I biked. In bed by 10 PM.

My weight sky rocketed with the eating I did over the Thanksgiving weekend. I knew a lot of it was water retention as I am very sodium sensitive. I wanted to get that weight off right away, so Tuesday I started the 4-Day Wonder Diet. This is the first time I have done a ‘crash diet’ and it seems to be working quite well. My weight went down and I am over feeling bloated. I am looking forward to weighing on Friday to see the results of the 4-Day Wonder Diet.

What I have been doing for water retention –

I have a pillow between the mattresses at the foot of my bed so my heart is lower than my feet. When I have a lot of water retention this has me going to the washroom several times during the night.

Took a diuretic day one

Daily 8 glasses of water

Daily Exercise

Daily avoid salt

HOLISTIC5 suggested 2 cups of green tea a day so I will add that.

Small steps in the right direction will still get you there. (I think that is an ~INDYGIRL quote)

If you know someone, with a glucose meter, ask if they could check your sugar (make sure they put a clean needle in first) If possible, do it in the morning, after not drinking or eating for 8 hrs. Or have your doctor check it.

Urinating frequently, at night, is a symptom, of high sugar
Holding on to infection, is a symptom of sugar

Drinking parsley tea, in the AM, made like tea w or wo sweetener, will release water retension, as will 1/2 lemon juiced in a cup of hot water.
It is safe to drink throughout the day, until swelling, goes down.
If this is something new, call and ask the doctor, what is causing it.

Be careful, of fad dieting, could rob you of needed nutrients.

Be Safe!
