Gratitude Day 20: Practice

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

“Practice is the art of learning
Mastery is the art of living
Gratitude is the art of Loving”

"...a basic law: the more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for.
Thankfulness does tend to reproduce in kind. The attitude of gratitude revitalizes the entire mental process by activating all other attitudes, thus stimulating creativity."
(Norman Vincent Peale, American pastor, Author 1898-1993)

On Day 20 of our Journey we were asked “to give thanks for our arboreal friends, their verdant presence and watery essence as living, loving messengers of time. Look around for a nearby tree. Breathe deeply it's vibrant nature.” We were to “Take a moment to appreciate its unique-ness, stage of growth, and continual state of change.” To recognize trees “grow both up and down (branch and root), continually exchange water; ground us in the NOW and offer comfort, protection, and a daily changing view.” And finally to “Remember, the Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, expressing Gratitude for its' shelter and assistance in his emancipation.”

What better place to practice?

Gratitude Day 19: Gazing With Gratitude

Monday, August 16, 2010

On the 19th day of the Experiment we were to consider that the Go Gratitude symbol

begins with G

and ends with

e.

Like ALPHA AND OMEGA, the mirror images represent the beginning and ending of creation. “Gratitude shifts our awareness to a circular perspective, a glimpse beyond Now by mirroring ends, opening space for everything between the Alpha and the Omega.”

As we continued on our Journey we were asked to open ourselves to others because, “When you are grateful, your heart is open -- open towards others, open for surprise.”

We were asked to “Connect eye to eye with another while expressing Gratitude” to open “a direct channel between each heart, allowing truth to flow easily between you and creating a sacred moment.” We were to “Be fully present to note and appreciate how others receive and return this silently spoken message of Love and Gratitude.”We were to “Look a stranger in the eyes today and realize that there are no strangers.”

I have no difficulty fulfilling this suggestion. While I normally greet people with words (good morning or good afternoon), now that I’m riding my bike to work, I’m often too winded to speak.

Gratitude Day 18: Gifts of Gratitude

Sunday, August 15, 2010

“Gratitude opens the way to forgive-ness – allowing our heart and mind to receive wisdom and experience release while letting go of attachments, expectations, or perceived notions on how life could-would-should be.”

The Day 18 Journey e-mail was a gift from the universe. As some of you know, my sis and I have been dealing with a family issue for several years. As part of my healing, I have attempted “with Gratitude, to give thanks for the conflict, lovingly asking, "What is the gift of this experience and what hidden wisdom is ready to be revealed?"

I must admit that some days I succeed and some days I fail even though I know, “Each situation in life exists for spiritual growth and evolution and when you are ready to acknowledge (that) wisdom…you will learn to love each situation. Then you can become aware of its lessons, know and learn and love them free. Once you learn to love the experience, it has fulfilled its mission in your life and can depart from you…Once you acknowledge that you created the reality, it loses its power. Then you can…free yourself from it and move forward on your journey.”
www.urielheals.com

"A sure method for invoking the highest emotion of joy is...to feel genuine gratitude for whatever the situation offers. An excellent exercise to ensure your own inner peace is to examine your consciousness for all embedded grievances, and dissolve them one by one with forgiveness.”

As I learned to receive and accept this gift I began to “clear, seal and heal the experience by using this mantra: I AM For Giving LOVE with GRATITUDE.”

"For giving" gives a new perspective on a familiar word - and new perspectives refresh our attitudes.

Being able to achieve complete spiritual enlightenment where you are able to deal with every tough situation in life with peace and equanimity may be a bit unrealistic. Trying is quite the battle and that you succeed some days is great. Feel good about yourself for trying, and don't worry about the failures. This is a wonderful self improvement journey you are on :) Keep up the great work!

Gratitude Day 17: Spinning and Spiraling

Saturday, August 14, 2010

As we continued the Experiment we “remember(ed) toys - round with a wheel centered atop a turning post... a disk to on which to sit and spin; a simple, youthful aid to CHANGING one's outlook on life.” Now we can shift “by spinning into Gratitude... just enough to make wakes of Gratitude - dizziness optional.”

“Gratitude lights the way to enthusiasm. Enthusiasm clears the path to Love. Love is the key to freedom." - Sandy Paris

As we spiraled out, beyond the Self, to co-create with others, we called upon Fortitude, defined as "constancy under difficulty" or Gratitude in action. “This is what keeps us true to our selves, following Divine inner virtues, while serving both Self and our growing family of Gratitude.”

Our daily practice creates Fortitude.

Was it a coincidence the experiment and gathering were 42 (Fortitude) days in length?

I am aware of a lot of fortitude in the SP community. Some people are amazingly resilient and I'm sure that being part of a family of gratitude creates a bond that strengthens us all.

Thank you for the delicious 'medication' - mmmmm - and for the link to LIFEISAJOURNEY's blog - a goodie indeed.

Love that quote. First nations people believe in the power of the circle. In the end what you spin out will come back to you. Positive vibes brings positive returns and negative will bring negative. Its all energy. This is about harnessing it for the good of yourself and others.
This is a wonderful journey you are on :)
