Back to Sparkpeople

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Wow, I haven't been on this site since 2010! A lot has changed since I was on here last.
1. I gained more weight!
2. I retired in 2012.
3. Darling hubby and I moved from California to Colorado right after we retired.
4. We moved 3 times in the last 18 months.
5. Last Mother's Day I fell down the stairs and broke my arm.
6. DH landed in the hospital with Graves Disease and hyperthroidism.
7. The grand finale-I've been diagnosed with pre-diabetes.
I really need to find my groove, cut my stress and lose weight to get this under control. I have to give up being mad at myself, and get busy. emoticon

Difficult Week

Friday, January 15, 2010

I had a difficult week this week. I just couldn't get in the groove of journaling and watching every bite I ate. I probably won't have a weight loss this week because of it. To top it off, my back went out at work today, so I've spent the better part of the day icing my back and taking muscle relaxers. At least I drank my water every day this week.

I hope you are feeling better. Most important is to take care of your back. All the Spark coaches would say that, taking care of health right now in this manner is right along the path that Spark supports. I know it means taking a rest away from some of the activities you want to do. I suspect most of us have been down that path, especially the more "mature" we become. Just know all of us have you in our prayers pretty square dance lady.

Also like "Familytradition" said, just focus on the fruits and veggies and avoiding the fried stuff" emoticon

The Biggest Loser and Beautiful People.com

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

Did anyone see the Biggest Loser last night? Did anyone besides me think that the public humiliation of the contestants by making them weigh in, stripped down in front of hundreds of people, was totally unnecessary? Those poor people know what they look like. They live with it every day. I just don't think that shaming them will do them any good. Yes, they will lose weight on this show, but how many of them will be able to keep it off permanently. I hope they will. If I had been a contestant, I think the shame would stay with me for a long time and block me from doing what I know I should do.
Last night's show just enhanced some people's thoughts and actions, that it is okay to shame, belittle, and ridicule fat people publicly. It is not okay.

The news also reported yesterday about a web site called beautifulpeople.com that kicked 5000 members, mostly from the United States, off their web site because they had put on a few pounds. I think they need to change their web site name to beautifulpeopleontheoutside-uglyontheinsid
e.com

Yes, I think if these individuals are willing to put themselves out there - allow them to do it with dignity. A nice T-shirt with longer shorts would look so much more appealing. Why try to make people look half naked. I much prefer to watch "Ruby" - that southern lady is so grand and ladylike. emoticon emoticon

My co-worker and I were discussing this today. We both agree that it's unnecessary for these folks on the Biggest Loser to take off their shirts for the weigh-in. Is the shirt really going to make that big a difference in the result? No! The producers are going for the humiliation factor. Come and gawk at the obese people! Yeah, I don't think it's necessary. I don't think you could have paid me to do it when I weighed 200 lbs. In fact, I don't think I'd do it now!

A Healthy Breakfast

Monday, January 04, 2010

One of my goals is to eat a healthy breakfast every morning. Because I get up at 4:30 am and have to leave for work by 5:30, I break this meal into two parts. I usually have my cup of coffee and a piece of fruit and then when I get home about 9:15am, I have the rest of my breakfast. It just works better that way for me because I'm not really hungry before I leave for work, but if I don't have that piece of fruit I'm starving when I get home. When I'm not starving, I can take the time to really think about what I want and take the time to prepare it and eat it peacefully, instead of shoveling it in.
This morning when I got home, I had a poached egg on half of a toasted sandwich thin and a Yoplait fat free yogurt. It satisfied my hunger. By the way, if you haven't tried Orrowheat's new Whole Wheat or Multi Grain Sandwich Thins, you're missing out. They are only 100 calories and 5 grams of fiber. I use them for any sandwiches that I make and I love my poached egg on them.

Spark Your Body Videos

Sunday, January 03, 2010

I was going to start the Spark Your Body Video this morning but my left ankle has been giving me pain. It's funny that there is no pain when I walk but I can't jump at the moment without pain. So instead of the video I got on my treadmill. (After I cleaned all the hanging things off of it;). I did 20 minutes starting at 2.5mph for the first 3 minutes and then the rest at 3.4mph. I did one mile and it's a start I'm proud of. If I can, I will do another ten minutes later to get my 30 minutes in today.

I don't do the jumping. Severely injured both ankles in a car accident in my 20's so I adjust the exercise during that part, I march in place...or around if I choose. I try to keep moving. emoticon
