Good luck to you! I joined that in February for an at work session. Hopefully it will work better for you and you can adapt better to it. I couldn't quite get over the mental hurdle of not tracking calories and that fruit and most vegetables were FREE points, when I know darn well they have calories! Better luck to you!

I Am Back...

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

Thanks to my sparkfriends who waited on the side lines for me emoticon....

Even though I didn't get to adjusting myself, I need to be back here for me. This is a fresh start I need to just work through it.
Leaving the bad thoughts behind and moving on to me.

Unfortunatly I spent that time with my Auntie, she was hospitalized and now is in rehab for at least a month. She is the only aunt on my mother side of the family and she is like my mom to me.

Again. thanks to my sparkfriends....

FRUSTRATED...need ADVICE...

Monday, May 02, 2011

When I went to the dr. he said that I need to lose weight. When the nurse weighed me I told her not to tell me what the emoticonsaid.
But the dr. did and I have not lost a pound.
What is wrong with me?
The dr is going to run some test on me, he asked me if I was having hot flashes, he didn't want to give me hormones and then said I was all dried up and that my body is out of whack.
I have been exercising daily and nothing is happening
But, I am not going to emoticon.
Frustrated. yes.

It's hard to lose weight when the hormones are off. I had to up my exercise a lot and decrease my calories.

ANNIE1114 5/5/2011 6:42PM

I exercised for about 9 months and did not see any results until I started tracking my calories and staying within the calorie range that Spark recommended. I am post menopausal and it does take longer to lose weight, but it can be done.

Report Inappropriate Comment
MAGGIE165 5/2/2011 3:53PM

I'm going through menopause too, no HRT per Dr. advice. You'd think hot flashes would burn calories. I haven't lost since APR 3 I just upped my walking to 3 miles in the morning and 3 miles in the evening. I need to track better on my food I looked back at my tracker for the month of April and I went over my calories 3-4 x per week. Increase your cardio and scrutinize what you're eating thats my advice to me and to you. Keep Sparking and join the Spring Bootcamp, I did to help up my metabolism.

BUGQUEEN90 5/2/2011 1:02PM

It's good that your doctor did some bloodwork. When will you get the results?
If you are logging in your food, you could make it public so that your Sparkfriends could see and maybe offer advice if needed. You are exercising, so you already in that habit.

Report Inappropriate Comment
JOYINKY 5/2/2011 12:52PM

I've looked back over your page and I can't see your plan from the nutrition end. Could the problem be there? I never was able to lose weight by exercising alone. Exercising has helped me with maintenance but I also still track my calories in and make healthy choices. Hormones can present greater challenges but it really is eat less, exercise more. I know you've been doing great exercising so you're at least half way there! emoticon

Report Inappropriate Comment
EARTHMOTHR 5/2/2011 12:40PM

Drs don't have all the answers. If your doctor urges you to do something you really don't want to do (like hormone therapy), please get a second opinion. In the meantime, hang in there. Don't give up. Perseverance pays off!

Report Inappropriate Comment
RONNIEHUEY 5/2/2011 12:22PM

You know if you are healthy. My doctor thinks I should weigh 105 yeah right! I look like hell at 120.so I use to weigh in at about 135-145 LBS.That was a few years ago.Now if I weighed 175 I would feel skinny. So if you are eating right, exercising, don't worry about the scales.

Report Inappropriate Comment
ANDI571 5/2/2011 12:18PM

The past year has been so tough for me. What worked when I was younger, no longer works. I have tweaked and tweaked. I have found with me anyway, lower carbs is what finally starts the scale moving downward. I am not one that can go without carbs, or think it is healthy not to have them. But when I eat higher protein, lower starches, it does help.

Report Inappropriate Comment
I.M.MAGIC 5/2/2011 10:41AM

    Oh, girl... you KNOW it!

We can do this though. Like you said, don't stop just because of the frustration. I have to really work at keeping my exercise and activity levels as much a part of my life as any meal. We can all do that, and that means you too.

I have a friend who weighs in at 165 pounds. She's 5'4" and overweight by most of the standard measures--but she is a size 4 body-builder! Me? I have chronic kidney disease, and when my kidneys are acting up I can gain up to 10 pounds in a single day.

Sure, that weight needs to go too! LOL BUT...

...there are a lot of factors, and DIVEDIVA1 is right when she says the scale isn't the only way to measure success--which even your doctor will confirm if he/she thinks about it! LOL

Use your tape measure and your subjective ratings too. How do your clothes fit? How much energy do you have, where is your level of self esteem? Your blood pressure and pulse?

You're right not to let it get you down. UP is the only way to be! LOL

emoticon

DIVEDIVA1 5/2/2011 10:30AM

It is really hard to lose weight when you are menopausal, I know because I am there as well. It will not be a quick fix thing. Losing weight is made up of many factors. Your blog does not tell me much but I will tell you what is working for me. It may work for you and it may not. Each person is different.

I walk every day if I can, some days more than others. I aim for at least 20 minutes. The other piece of the puzzle is what you eat, that is where Spark can really help, use the Nutrition tracker and all the tools associated to help you eat a balanced healthy diet. It will help you determine the calories you need to lose weight but it will also help you to stay healthy while doing so.

Water is really important, 8 glasses a day minimum. It really does make a difference. And finally I love the support and the motivation that comes on this site. There are articles, people and coaches who all help.

I try and check in every day, I have been back at this for the past month and have lost 3 lbs, not a huge number but it is 3 lbs gone. I don't want to see them back so I will continue on. I love your attitude that you will not stop, just remember, it is not just the scale that determines success, it is also how you feel. Your measurements, your sleep and how you feel about yourself all matter way more than a scale number.

Happy Sparking!!!

It is not unusual to have thes issues when you are going through menopause. That was my
worst time for retaining weight. I did not have the hot flashes or any of the other nasties but
I had a dickens of a time losing weight. Hang in there and avoid hormone treatment unless
it is absolutely necessary. Your doctor will advise you. HUGS!
