Thrift Store Shopping....

Wednesday, May 07, 2014

I have plenty of tops, no bottoms.

I have no jeans at all.....got to have some jeans.

I finally went shopping at a Thrift Store. I was mainly shopping for shorts and jeans. To my surprise I left the store with 5 pair of jeans no shorts and spending less than $10.
Talk about a deal, I will be a regular at that store.

A friend gave me a bag of summer clothes and I did go to Walmart to buy some other different color shorts. So I am set for the summer.

Thanks to my sparkfriends for the idea to shop at the Thrift Store.

The thrift store is always a gamble. You'll go a dozen times and find nothing, then one day you'll hit the jackpot.

emoticon Thrift Store Shopping really is a lot like Treasure Hunting. I might go 3 or 4 times and find NOTHING!! But then the next time I go I get almost more than I can carry!!! And many times I have found Brand New, Brand Name Clothes with their Tags still attached!

Hi Sparkfriends...

emoticon Spark emoticon's

It's been along time since my last blog.

I've been quiet.....
I finally got the click and my weight loss moving.

I am out of the 200 + weight range and that size 20. Saturday I gave away everything that was sagging even some large sizes. Six bags of clothes gone forever. My closet is almost empty. The winter months really saved me wearing those big clothes but now I cannot hide with coats.

I am wearing a size 14w being baggy and 12w being tight. I have a few more clothes to get me to June. No shopping yet for anything. I know that I am still losing and I don't know what size I want to be.

A friend gave me 2 pair of jeans size 17 juniors and they fit perfect. I was excited.

Spark emoticon 's keep your journey moving....

This is when thrift stores come in handy, both for giving and recieving cloths. I've been buying caps and scarves there to get through my hairless phase of chemo.

Hi there, haven't seen you in a while - but it sounds as if you are doing great! Maybe time for a reward shopping trip to buy a few spring items (on sale, of course) - and enjoy that new smaller size! (I bought a pair of linen slacks last week - size 12!!!!!! A baggy 12, but still - such an ego boost!)

Are you Doing the Paleo Diet...

Thursday, September 12, 2013

I haven't done a blog in a while. I am still here. I have no complaints.

I cannot believe that we are nearing 3 months left in the year and I am still hanging in doing my best.

I can say that I have not quit.

I was thinking about starting the Paleo Diet. I don't know anybody that is doing it.

Could you help me along the way and share your experience and weight loss results...

Help me along the way.....

I've been following the Paleo diet since February and I've lost almost 50 pounds.

For me it was because of a gluten sensitivity. I was having horrible stomach pains, and that is completely gone.

As already noted, if you make the change you'll have some effects; especially if you are eating a lot of carbs now, you'll have what they call 'carb flu.' You'll feel tired and sluggish, but it should pass in a couple days.

I would recommend reading up on the diet. Robb Wolf's book 'The Paleo Solution' is a great place to start. Check with your local library. I read every book I could find and did research online.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to help!

Eating healthy clean food is a great idea balance is he key . You should eat healthy foods that you enjoy. Beware that sometimes eating fresh fruits & veggies may upset your stomach & give you gas & diarrhea . As a test you may want to begin on a weekend / or at a time when can test yourself to see how your gut handes the new diet.

Good luck. It should make you healthier by cleansing your body of toxins & infusing you with nutrients. emoticon emoticon

    Great blog.
I feel your pain!
The weight gain and moodiness and hot flashes were the worst, for me.
I did recently start Biodentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (http://www.sottopelletherapy.com/ ) and it has helped with the moodiness and hot flashes, not so much so far with the weight gain. I have only had one treatment but will be going for my second one the first of August.

I, on the other hand, got migraines for the first time when going through menopause. And the night sweats! I didn't get a good night's sleep for 10 years. But we all come out on the other side eventually, and it's over. And we never have to go through it again.

SO familiar! My dr said that we burn something like 2000 calories a month while ovulating - so that stops at menopause. Ugh! All those extra calories pile up in our middle, don't they?

If you have serious physical problems like hot flashes or mood swings, first try vitamin B6 - helps with the moods. Talk to your dr re hormone replacement therapy - I've been on Ogen (a soy-based HRT) for years, because I was dripping sweat on students' papers in an air conditioned classroom. Really. Now, I might get a hot flash once in a while, not 20 or so in a day.

Dress in layers, drink lots of water (but room temp is best - ice water can trigger a hot flash, go figure), and, well, it goes away. Eventually.

But really, if this is too disruptive in your life, see your dr.

Menopause is a hard one to explain to anyone! I understand that it can be different for each of us. I did experience the cessation of migraine headaches but replaced them with hot flashes. They are hard to deal with in any situation and especially the ones during the night. I bought a fan that I sat at the head of the bed and threatened everyone with their lives if they touched it. My DH relates to all who will listen that it would be -10 degrees in the bedroom and I would throw all of the covers on the floor. Without knowing for sure what is bothering you the most, all I can say is, hang in there, this too shall pass!

BTW, loved the way you put this blog together, very cleaver!

I am probably a rare bird because menopause brought me relief from severe headaches.. and reason to CELEBRATE! My doctor said his own mom had the same experience... relief from her headaches with menopause. He said that the hormonal change was the CURE! Well, lucky me! And, I have never had a "hot flash" ---
