Underemployed does not equal weight loss

Friday, August 10, 2012

After having my job eliminated in late June, trying to keep focused on anything has been a challenge. On the positive side, I get to spend more time with my family. The negative side is obvious and there's no need to get into that here. I keep telling myself that a door closed on one opportunity leaving the chance for something better in the future. It's hard waiting for the future when you live in a challenging present.

Needless to say, finding the strength to lose weight has been problematic. I'm looking forward to being in a place where I can tackle that challenge with vigor.

Until then...

I know what you mean. When I was in college, trying to balance finances and classes and projects and my social life, I never had enough money to eat right and I was always way too physically and emotionally exhausted to dedicate myself to weight loss. But when you are ready, you totally will do it!!! Remember to give yourself credit for all of the awesome things you are managing in your life right now!

Hiking it!

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Having moved back to my hometown, I've been able to get reacquainted with the hiking trails that are nearby and accessible. Sharing the experience with my son has been exceptionally gratifying. But the real bonus has been the exercise value of it for both of us. He's a little skinny guy and certainly doesn't need it as much as I do, but good habits begin early.

Treadmill Fodder

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

With total credit going to NEALP81 for the idea, I wanted to post my playlist online. I tend to want to rock out while I'm pushing it and I'm a little old school.

Here's my iPod playlist. I set it to shuffle every time so there's no sense to the order below...

If I Had $1,000,000 - Barenaked Ladies (good for visualizing, not so much for the beat)
Get What You Need - Jet
Gonna Need My Help - The Muggs
She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult
FFF - PIL
Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind
Lust For Life - Iggy
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet
Tubthumping - Chumbawamba
Let It In - Sasquatch
Sabotage - Beasties
Temptation Waits - Garbage
Basket Case - Green Day
Three Lock Box - Sammy
Supervixen - Garbage
American Idiot - Green Day
Burnout - Green Day
Love Removal Machine - The Cult
Some Jingle Jangle Morning - Mary Lou Lord (guilty pleasure)
Immigrant Song - Tomoyasu Hotei
Everything About You - Ugly Kid Joe
Start The Commotion - The Wiseguys
Chump - Green Day (former Powersong - looking for a new one)
Blitzkreig Bop - Ramones
I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Take California - Propellerheads
Love Is Like A Rock - Donnie Iris
Here It Goes Again - OK Go (how can you not laugh when on a treadmill?)
Clash City Rockers - The Clash
Poundcake - Van Halen
Cold Hard Bitch - Jet

This is a couple of hours worth and keeps things from getting old and stale when on shuffle.

You must be a decade younger than I am, or more.

Rough times, life happens.

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Father went into the hospital for a battery of tests yesterday. I spent the whole day there keeping my mom company.

With all of the stress involved, I just chucked the whole idea of diet and eating smart out the window. I gave myself a float day and for the most part ate whatever I wanted and was available. Boy was I surprised when I stepped on the scale and it read the same weight as before. Do a few days of eating like that and I'm sure I'd be seeing quite the uptick quickly.

Back to being smart. Eating better and minding those numbers. Need to find the energy to get the body moving again, but the stress and all have me thinking about little else but napping.

Let's see what today brings.

Pushin' it

Monday, August 10, 2009

Whew. I'm beat.

Got back up on that treadmill again, despite my body's protests, and pushed the limits. This time, I set my Nike+ to 5K and knew there was going to be a point in which I walked. The question was when. Was I going to beat yesterday's 3K distance? Was I going to beat my previous 1 mile time?

Yep and yep.

3.5K before walking. I walked for 1K. Ran the final .5K. Finished the whole 5K distance in 27:04. If this was last year's Farmington Road Race (which I've registered for this year's), not only would I have finished, but I wouldn't even have been last.

Skipping Wii Active today. I've already done my 2nd shower of the day. That's my limit. Just want to crawl into bed. Tomorrow's the day when I watch my son all day. I don't get much done on Tuesdays. You know...except the quality parenting time.

Now where's the ice for that knee?

Congrats!!! You're time is a lot better than mine!! I think I'm going to end up right around 35 minutes for a 5k, but just accomplishing it will be good enough for me!

I'm also using the Nike+ I LOVE it. Although the female voice I had to tell me when I reached certain points in the workout just stopped working for no reason a week or so ago. I didn't change settings or anything!! GRRRR

Anyways, keep it up, you're doing great!!
