Health Care Reform Issue

Monday, August 10, 2009

Suddenly, as a volunteer, I'm involved in campaigning in support of health care reform this week. Our very intelligent, extremely hard-working US Rep. is out on break (as they all are this month), and he's being attacked by people who just don't understand that our healthcare system (that I've worked in for years) is terribly broken and cannot continue. It's collapsing under its own weight.

I believe it's critical for people not to react with knee-jerk fear of what they perceive as the unknown. Predictions being bandied about by pharmaceutical companies and insurers who have been making out like bandits for decades are pure falcifications they're fabricating to try to protect their turf. We CAN'T AFFORD THEM! They must modernize and find moral alternative ways of producing income that aren't hurting others to satiate their greed.

Spark Calendar for Better Sleep

Thursday, August 06, 2009

I just followed the link for the Spark Featured Article of the Day, and downloaded the Spark Calendar for August that lists a way to promote better sleep for every day of the month. I think it's a really great tool that's useful to remind us of the importance of sleep and ways to improve our sleep! You can check it out at

Edema is better today

Sunday, August 02, 2009

We had a great church picnic after services today, and I was careful about not eating too much sodium. Was good yesterday, too, so I was retaining less water this morning. Not back to the low level of a week ago yet, but going in the right direction. When others cook, it's awfully hard to maintain control.

Have been eating too much sodium

Saturday, August 01, 2009

It started on Tuesday when I was in Ohio to help my sister and her husband move. Their son and his wife invited us to eat supper with them, and we had lasagna. I asked for a small piece, but I know I had too much sodium when I ate a piece of buttery garlic bread with it. Then the next evening, Wednesday, they treated us again with a layered taco casserole. Delicious! but too much sodium again. Thursday I had a great time watching a couple of movies with friends. Popcorn and another layered taco-type of dish. Then I drank a lot of milk, and my potassium level soared through the roof (I can't have too much potassium either). So my ankles have been very puffy for three days now. Yesterday and today I've been good, and I know it will come off quickly (already a little better than yesterday). Still, it's not good for my systems. When people are kindly offering food, it's too hard to seem unappreciative and say, "I can't eat that."

It's just not what you eat that is prepared. You should see all the foods that are filled with natural sodium! I try to stay away from anything prepared or canned or quick. It'll make me gain water weight every time.

I don't add salt to my food. You know, there are places I go that I can taste the over-salting on my food. It is very plain.

Had a very good evening watching movies with friends

Friday, July 31, 2009

5 good friends had a fun evening watching movies at home last night. We danced a little and snacked a little (some snacks we brought to share were healthy) and just were laid back and hung out. What a good time!
