It's been a good 2 weeks, but extra busy, as I've started working at a new location. Last week I was trained by the man who's been doing the job for the past 15 months. This week I began working with the blind man I'm supporting. I'm officially his "reader," which means I read paperwork and make some decisions about data, then record the information onto an audio tape, and he then inputs it into a computer system. He also works with clients, and then he reports results to me. He has a steel-trap memory, and works very quickly. At present there are 140 clients in the caseload, and he knows what's going on with each and every one of them! Pretty impressive. I also use the computer to assist him with letters and forms that need to be completed and sent, and lots of filing. I'm only supposed to be there 18 hours a week, so my speed is going to have to improve. He's been very patient this week, so it's been a good start for me.
