Pleased to be supporting the American Red Cross

Sunday, November 29, 2009

I believe the American Red Cross is one of the few organizations that's largely independent of religious or political corruption. I think they do their job of helping people in need without bias or prejudice. I'm very happy to be working on their behalf.

Shopped for about 6 hrs today

Friday, November 27, 2009

Started shopping around 11 am and finished around 5 pm. I only went to 3 stores, but that was plenty. Very tired this evening. And now I have a project to make my 2 grandchildren each one of those snuggie fleece robes. Since I was too late to buy the ones that were advertised @ $2.99, limit of 10 / customer at a local home improvement store, I spent about $50 purchasing fleece and a pattern. Now I have to find the time and the space to work on them.

Grateful for the opportunities I've been given

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

I am so grateful that I've had the opportunities I've had in life. They have been many; and, thinking back, I know I've not always made the best of them. Here's hoping I can capitalize on and learn from my mistakes and do better in the future.

Can't volunteer as much as I have been

Friday, November 20, 2009

In my training position, I'm learning lots of useful things about PR and my community. Time management, though, has suffered, because I'm mostly still trying to keep up with the volunteer work I'd been doing. Something's going to have to give!

Long week, but a good one

Friday, November 06, 2009

It has been a long week because I've been on a steep learning curve on account of starting at a new position with the local chapter of the American Red Cross. I'm their new Community Relations Coordinator, which entails helping out with events and fund raisers, of which there are many! We have to do a better job of letting the community know about the work we're doing, and encouraging volunteers to help us. There's so much that must be done. Several others have been working at parts of the job I'm stepping into, and expectations are high that I can step in and do much for them. I'm only part-time, and just learning, so I don't know whether I can meet their expectations as quickly as they would like me to. It's a lot of pressure, and I've overeaten and underslept this week.
