Almost 2 weeks in and I am paying close attention to potential obstacles that lay ahead of me through out the year. I actually tracked my diet through "thick and thin" for the first 3 months of last year and it was quite painful. The pattern was eat decent throughout the first part of the week but then...

Thurs - Slip up
Fri - Hey, it's Friday...pizza sounds great
Sat - Out to eat (w/drinks and dessert)
Sun - I'll start over on Monday

I work out HARD over the weekend but its not enough to offset the week of poor dieting.

Anyway, my first obstacle was my birthday on Jan 10th because I know we were going out to eat. Had a good plan but consequently I gave in and overdid it with booze and bad food.

That was Thurs so the next trap was Friday because it's the start of the weekend. Did great but then popped the top off the whiskey and got carried away.

My awareness is going to be the difference this time around. I will not continue with this pattern.

My Dreams

Sunday, January 06, 2013

In just a few months I'll live a life that I've only imagined for most of my adult life. I'll look amazing with very little fat and muscles just bulging. To have people stop and stare will be so gratifying after all of my self-image issues of the past. And the energy...I will be able play non stop with my kids and devote extra time to my wife. I've had a taste of it when I start to make progress - this time I will see it through. Being able to wear all of my nice clothes with confidence is going to be unbelievable!

To be 39 years old and have a better body, a healthier life, and more confidence than I had in college is going to propel me to heights that many people never get to reach. I vow, when that happens I am going to be invincible and will work with others to help them achieve the same.

Living in the moment. It's so crazy how that can be the death of you and also give you new life! I am enjoying a successful first week of the New Year because I am highly motivated but more importantly I am taking one day at a time. Every meal is calculated and I think about what it means to my body - I'm in the moment. Last year I would devour whatever what was in front of me, throwing caution to the wind - I was in the moment.

I think the parallel is that either way you decide to go with your food choices, it is going to lead to some goal: get fat or get lean. We have to find a way to keep our mind right because we won't always have the "New Year" to get us going.

If you are a yo-yo dieter like me think about the periods where you kicked butt and lost lots of weight. People bring in donuts to work and you just walk right by it easily - why would I want THAT??? But when you are in the heavy mode.... mmmmm - DONUTS!!

My challenge is to stay on course and stay self motivated - keep my goals in front of me at every moment.
