State of the Skeeter Address#1

Wednesday, January 09, 2008

This is my 3rd. attempt at posting this on my blog, I hope this one sticks.
Have burned over 156,000 calories.
Drank more than 4,000 cups of water.
Earned more than 23,800 Spark points, now if someone can tell me what to do with them?
Lost over 50 + lbs.
I started on Sparks Jan. 7,2007, and this has been quite an adventure. I kept changing my goal lower with each success. The longer I was on the easier it became. How you might ask, what is the secret? The plan was right in front of me, be totally committed to the SPARK PEOPLE agenda, totally, count calories, fitness, watch portion size, drink the water, post and keep a blog and weigh often. My father always said "no one promises you a rose garden, you have to work at it". I decided my health was very important to me, and I better start working at it. Of all the diets I have tried in the past 50 yrs. this, by far was the easiest.
I reached my last goal on June 9th. 2007. 187 or 50 lbs. lost. At that time I wrote in my blog , I knew the journey was not over but just beginning. MAINTAINING.
I'm fortunate to be a farmer because of all the work that needs to be done on a farm 9 months out of the year. Over the summer I didn't need any additional exercise and lost an additional 7 lbs. I had to force down some high calories so as not to go any lower. I expected to be challenged this late fall and I was. I had to get back on the old stationary bike. That worked until early Dec. the unthinkable happened, the complete breakdown of my old used stationary bike, I guess it got tired of this old fat blubber cranking away. No way to repair it, panic set in, what's the old duffer going to do, it's two weeks till Christmas? But thanks to my #2 son, who got tired of hearing me whine, gave me his 4 year old NordicTrack SL 710 exercise cycle. Is it ever slick, from here on I refer to it as my Lexus.
I gained a few lbs. over the holidays but have since got back down to my new weight, 180.
I must not close before taking inventory of just a few of good things in my life this past year. No longer take acid reflex pills, go up stairs without puffing, stoop over with EASE, bought new clothes, back, knee's, hip, legs no longer hurt, these are just a few. There are some more but don't want to embarrass anyone.
I would like to thank my family for their love and support this past year, special thanks to my sisterANNE403, who everyone thinks is younger than I but actually 7 years older, who for many years set such a good example for me and kept the pressure on.
Last but not least, the SPARK CROWD, what a great group of supporters! Most of all, thank you Chris, MR SPARK GUY.
May God be with us this coming year. JUSTLYLE Skeeter

My dear Brother, you made me cry when I read your wonderful Blog about your much success in losing 50 plus & maintaining! I know you made many attempt at losing weight! The one where you ate only two meals a day worried me, maybe it was only 1 meal a day.
Your are so correct in the Spark People & you started me & came to our home to help me get started on Spark People. I certainly thank you for puttimg up with me as it sure took me awhile to get on to the web site.
So thank you for helping me get to my goal & maintaining with Sparks.
I still have to excerse & do all the things you have to do to maintain. But at least I am maintaining and am very thankful.
Your look much younger than I & with what you have done now you are a spring chicken as our Mother would have said.
I keep telling you how proud I am of you accomplishment & commitment to this program. It is so wonderful helpful web site. I know you will keep the weight off this time & your sister is going to do the same that is a promise to each other! Anne

You're right: It's easy to get it off, harder to maintain that loss.
Keep up the good work--and the support you do.

Oh, I almost forgot, also more good news, I lost all that I had gained through the holidays this week, back down to 180, the lowest I want to go. Isn't Sparks the greatest? Ill see you in church? Dec. 30th. Baby it's cold outside!

Sunday, December 30, 2007

Us old farmers, when we have nothing else to complain about , discuss the weather. It is 10 above as I type this, what can I expect, it's winter in the mid-west. Getting ready to usher in the new year and forgetting to write 2008 on the checks. Will spend a quite evening with three of our close friends. Our most excitement is seeing if we can stay awake till midnight or celebrate 1 hour early with the east coast. It was a good year, feel reallllllllll good about it, sorta sad to see the good times go, but wait a second, they don't have to end, I'm going to stay positive and keep the good times rolling. And now about the bad news, I gained 4 lbs. this last two weeks. and I enjoyed every bite! It came on soo easy and it will come off! STAY POSITIVE! See you in church? Skeeter

It was wonderful to see you over break, gramps!! I hope the wind isn't as nasty as it was when we were out there. I'm surprised that you didn't blow away--especially considering the amount of weight you have lost in the past year! We're all so proud of you =) Hopefully I'll talk to you soon. Please tell grams I said hi and I love you both!

A special gift at Christmas!

Thursday, December 27, 2007

Our four son's and wonderful family honored us and extended family and friends at a favorite restaurant of ours to celebrate 50 years of wedded bliss. I know all of you who know me are asking, how did she put up with a Skeeter all those years? What can I say , she's a GOOD WOMEN. Our #2 son has been putting many of our "OLD" slides and pictures on DVD's with music for the past year, it was a BIG labor of LOVE and was shown to the immediate family after dinner. I will add some new pictures of this on my Spark Page. I almost conveniently forgot to mention I gained 4 lbs. and I liked it. Did not have time to weigh and report officially while everyone was here but am getting right back in the saddle NOW! Stay tuned for my STATE OF SKEETER address. Happy New Year to all and my God Bless You and Yours. Skeeter

Wow, 50 years. Congratulations! It's wonderful when you find someone you can put up with and actually love for that long. I've been with my husband for almost 17 years, married to him for almost 6 and I still look forward to seeing him every day. I only hope we have the stamina you did!

Christmas comes early for Skeeter Dec. 16th.

Sunday, December 16, 2007

What a great week, I found what I would classify a "Lexus" by my standards in my basement Tues. AM. a very slightly used , aren't they all, 2 year old Nordic track SL 710 exercise bike. One of my wonderful sons got tired of my winning and gave me his. What a beauty, almost too good for this ole duffer. Started out slow but already up to level 3, two and sometimes three 30 minutes sets a day. The time goes by soo fast, it keeps me busy watching all the gadgets and lights in front of me. Nothing else really matters this week, my son is happy, I'm happy, and my wife is happy, and you know when the wife is happy everyone is happy. OK now lets see how I handled all those Christmas cookies so far this week, well not too bad I lost another 1 lbs. See you in church? Skeeter

Good for you brother, you are doing so great & happy for you. That bike came in handy & right at a very good time of the year. Exercise is very important & has been my salvation for a long time.
We are going to the Pines for breakfast at 10:30 AM with JIm,MaryAnne, John & Mary, Paul, Robin & Luc. Melvin & Sue were going but called & he said he had alot of snow to remove this morning.
At 4 PM we are going to church (St Anne's) to hear J. Morrisey (a tenor & very good ) sing & a reception for him afterwards.
Have a great week. Anne
