I just don't look good in a Pastel dress?

Sunday, March 30, 2008

A very important event is going to take place in a couple of months, our first GS is going to get married. Now this is a big deal, it takes much planning and of course new clothes. We started this process some time ago, went to the big stores like Bergners etc. at least they had chairs to sit on, to finally a "dress shop only" store with no chairs. Kept trying on one after another until I finally told DW to narrow the field down some then call me, I went to find a place to sit. No chairs at all, went to front of store and sat on front window display. When people went by I struck a manikin pose, I might have looked a little out of place in the women's dress display. One neighbor merchant recognized me and knocked on the window. Then the call would come, honey come here, I need your help. please Zip me up in the back. Now there is no good way to report this but have you ever tried putting on a small glove when you wear a medium? I tell you these dress makers play games with the sizes, I finally had to ask the sales lady to try cause I thought I might tear it, she did get it zipped . Now the question, what do you think honey, do you like it? Now that is a loaded Question. I realized right then I might not live through this. I cautiously say I'm not sure I like all those ruffles around your belly. She answers, I just don't look good in Pastels, do you think? Yes, your probably right dear. Whew! Might have got by that one O K.
Come home, both tired, she comes down from the bedroom with this sharp looking hot pink number on, WOW. Do you think anyone will remember this from our son's wedding in KC over 7 years ago? I don't think so this one is in IN. She says I think it needs something don't you? Be careful how you answer Skeeter, I say it might be a touch too long, since you lost all that weight, sure glad I added that last part. Comes back down with those fake looking diamonds around neck and wrist they sure sparkle and I say, thinking about the $400 I would be saving, you look MARVELOUS. I meant it and she felt good in it. So it looks like I live to write another day. It will need to be shortened some but it is a winner. Now if any of you women out there recognize this dress from 7 years ago please say nothing, I will deny you heard it here.
What's this, I lost a lbs. this week, isn't life great. Have a wonderful week.

Gramps, I read this as soon as I got home from visiting with you in Fort Wayne, but everyone in the house was laughing so hard that I forgot to post something! You sure made Grandma Lynn laugh hysterically...which I have not seen for years! She even printed it off so she could share with her sisters and my Great Grandma Lorraine =) All I know is that you're lucky that grandma doesn't get on here and read these! I'm proud of you for hangin' in there with her. Is she still planning on wearing the hot pink giddup? That is a gorgeous dress. Can't wait for more of your stories! Love, "GK #3"

I'm laughing just picturing you sitting in the window of a dress shop pretending to be a mannequin. You should've put on one of those dresses - then you would've been more believable. :)
I think my husband is glad I'm a low maintenance girl. He's never had to go dress or purse shopping with me.

I agree with all the others that answered your blog. You can really tell a good story & humours. I sent you an email so you know we soon will be home. I was able to get on line tonight staying at a Pear Tree Inn. This traveling is very tiring for us both, guess it is because we get older each year. I think J & J got home today that was their plans. See you real soon.

You have the patience of Job. You know, you could add a special piece of bling to acknowledge her decision to wear the dress again.

LOL, Skeeter! You sure do know how to tell a story. I'm sure your dear wife will look wonderful, especially with the big smile she wears when she remembers how you thought she looked marvelous. You're right - All that matters is how it makes her feel. The money you saved will no doubt find another cause, though, as I'm sure you know.

Bad week?

Sunday, March 23, 2008

Some weeks are better than others, this was not one of them, too many deaths. A former classmate of ours Mother died, my last Aunt died and Jesus died on the cross. The good news is my Aunt put her faith in Jesus and Jesus arose to save us all from our sins.
Spring has to come soon my DW saw the first robin of the year and the snow birds are planning their return trip home.
Now back to the funeral, I have instructed all who will listen NOT, I repeat, NOT to let anyone get up and say things about me at my funeral, I can just hear them say what a nasty guy I was and go on and on and say and another thing . I need to put a stop to it right now.
Now with that out of the way I almost forgot to report I gained 1 lbs. this week, not bad for feeding at the food trough of two funerals and big meal last night with family at a favorite restaurant. Next week will get better.
Have a happy Easter everyone.

Sorry for your losses. I hope this is a better week for you.
Nasty guy? Are you deceiving us all? Making us think that you're such a nice guy when in reality you're so nasty that people would say mean things at your funeral? I think you'll be fine. :)

Sorry that your week was not so go, but as you said, Christ has risen, giving us the hope of eternal life and the fact that he will forgive our sins. Possibly even to the point that when people do get up at our funeral, they won't talk negatively about us.

Thanks for the Easter Basket!

Prayers & Blessings this Easter!

Hi Skeeter, wishing you and your family a Happy Easter!
I know what you mean about some weeks being better than others, I have had my share of both.
You are doing a great job of maintaining your goal weight, I give myself a 5 pound lee-way between my goal weight and my upper limit.
I don't fret over 1 or 2 pounds but I get very anxious if I hit the 5 pound mark.
I'm eating today but tomorrow is a strict low calorie day.
God bless you and yours, Earlene

Sometimes God wakes us up in some of the strangest ways!
Sorry about all your losses. (and your gain of 1#, but like you say, that's not bad--I'm dealing with 5! and I don't have any funerals for an excuse!)

Be careful buying a women's purse!

Sunday, March 16, 2008

What a great week, sure glad I finally had that discussion with the weather goddes. Worked out in the yard cleaning up the mess of limbs the ice storm left us with. There was snow banks in them all winter. Had the 4 and 6 year old GK helping, they sure can pick up a lot of sticks and small branches.
Even had time to go shopping with the wife for a new purse for Easter. She laid the trap for me. She says so sweetly, honey which one of these do you like the best? So this one is bigger than a 3 gal. waste paper basket and the other is about 2 fists big. I thought before answering, which is unusual for me, finally I said the little one of course, it just fits your personality better. She liked it best too. Now for you young marrieds out there ,put this in your memory bank. Most women know you never buy a purse bigger than half their behind! I was being tested and I passed, wow, what a great feeling, otherwise I might not be here to celebrate number 51 years of marriage next year.
I hope everyone had a good week, God sure has blessed me.
Almost forgot the important part, I lost two lbs. this week, it looks like I'm going to make it through the worrisome winter OK.
Have a fantastic week and Happy Easter to everyone. Skeeter

51 years?!...wow!!! My husband and I are coming up on eight this July. We are watching all our friends get divorced and it is so sad. We see ourselves celebrating 51 years...as long as we get fit and healthy. Thanks for a nice blog and thoughts.
My husband is probably pretty happy because I am not a purse girl! I have one and use it until it starts to look bad and then go to target and get a new one in five minutes...lol.

Half the size of the behind, huh? After a combined total of 37 years of marriage, I don't think I've ever heard that. Thanks for the heads up.
As my wife is a very lean triathlete, I guess that means she'll be putting a couple hankies and a lipstick in her little purse and depending on my pockets for anything else. Come to think of it, she's been doing that when we dress up for years already.
I'm not sure what'll happen now that we're in Hawaii, where different dress-up standards apply. A nice aloha shirt pretty much defines the upper limits of sartorial splendor for me, though K still puts on a dress for nice occasions (like her upcoming birthday).
And congratulations on the continued weight loss. Pretty soon you'll be skinnier than a stall-fed hoe handle, as my dad used to say.

I guess my hubby's lucky! I'm not the purse type (I mean, what are pockets for?), so he's never had to make such a dangerous decision! :)

Glad you passed the "test" though! :)

We made it to church and the door was open, all good signs. Am going to GS 4th. [ my bad I had the old 3], birthday party this afternoon. Sure glad the family moved here from KC. It's nice to be next to family.
More bad news, I gained 2 lbs. this week, not to bad considering 2 buffet meals on Friday and Saturday.

It was 50 here in Minnesota yesterday! Sure was a nice break from the teens and single digits we've been having. Maybe some of that will come your way and give you a break from the winter weather.

I hear ya. I mean, this is Daylight Savings Time and it's snowing out there. And it's cloudy. So much for more sunlight today, eh? (Well, it will be lighter out anyway, sort of...)

You are right in that there are small things in life to be grateful for. We have a birthday over here this weekend too. The scale was up this morning, but I've already moved on! :-)

March 2nd. No hope of pitching in the majors now!

Sunday, March 02, 2008

This past week started off bad. On Mon. AM my BH was on her way to the Chiropractor for he 3 week appointment and slipped on our sidewalk and fell on her shoulder, nothing , thank goodness was broken, but a lot of pain, of course having trouble doing the necessary things one does with you right arm. If any luck she will make this last all summer.
I should have wrote this in the middle of the night doing what old men do at that hour when I had some real funny ideas.
Great two days and nights on a deserted island in the Cariabien, wait a minute I'm dreaming again.
This was a short week, with her suffering, can't let that get in the way of a car purchase, then we went babysitting with the cute 1+ and 3+ GK while Mom and Dad went the big race in Vegas. Now if that won't make you feel your age, with the BH bad pitching arm, nothing will.
This new Life style change is something, on weeks you think you abused your body you end up losing 3 lbs. Go figure. Isn't life the greatest.
Sold my old car to my son, sure hope the check is good.
And that's the life and times in the week of SKEETER .
Have a good week.

Happy you got a new car will be anxious to see it.
Very proud of you maintaining your weight. You now look like my 10 yr. younger brother instead of 5 years difference!
