Some days, weeks and even months seem the same, that describes this past week. rained some, wind blows your hair piece off, but not dry enough to get in the fields. Did do the garden and GLBH put in onions and radishes. Worked on yard bringing in dirt from field to fill in bad spots. Made a management decision to to hire Tru Green to treat our lawn this summer. In the 50 years our lawn never looked this bad, GRUBS. If you never take any of advice seriously please do now. Treat your lawn for Grubs early summer. They get in the soil and the skunks dig and root for them making one "heck " farmer term ,of a looking lawn. We reseeded last fall and again this late winter. Does look some better but not like we want it.
Now for the good news, I lost a couple lbs. this week, I suppose the next thing is I'll become anorexic.
Have a good week and I hope to do the same. Sparks is great!

You know your living in the mid west when you can go from snow one morning to bright sun the next. Course it's still 31 this A. M. but this bright sun will worm us up somewhat.
Ah Shucks is a technical farm term, used when things have not gone as planned. It comes from when we used to have ear corn storage on the farm. It is the outer part of an ear of corn. Big corn sheller on a truck frame would come to your farm and you would have to feed ears of corn into the sheller to shell the corn from the cob, leaving corn on trucks or wagons and cobs and schucks on the ground. Schucks and cobs were used for bedding, burn in stoves to heat the house and water tanks so livestock could get water in the winter. Cobs were also used for a few other projects that I better not get into here. While shelling out of the corn cribs the rats would run wild, was always advised to tie bale twine around pant legs so they would not run up your legs, I never had this happen to me but saw it happen to my Dad when I was a kid and later to my nephew, that's probably why I always "tied my legs". This is the feeling I had when I weighed in this morning, AH SCHUCKS, I gained 2 lbs. I'm not known for telling a short story, sorry about that, this "old duffers" mind just had to reflect on the past.
This week will be a good one, sun shinning, will get to the 70's and some field drying might take place.
Life is great and so is Sparks!

Wow what an exciting week. Started the week by being reminded how it was to be, let's say "over weight". Had to drive my old cab-less tractor over 8 miles in freezing weather. I put on all kinds of layered clothes, topped off with a snowmobile suit and helmet. As I walked past doorways bumped the sides and when walking, more like a waddle, to trying to pull myself up onto the narrow opening on the tractor. All that was missing was the two thirty lbs. bags of bird seed on my shoulders, try that for a day and see if you want to go back to the "good ole days".
The weather in Northern Ill. is finally turning to some beautiful days. It is sorta like this "life style change" thing, you have many long and disappointing days, but you hang in there and all of a sudden, great news, you do see progress.
Took about a 600 mile round trip yesterday to Ind. for a shower for 1st. GS's future wife. Sure glad we could go, by time the last GK gets married will be luckey if we could go, something like being tooooooo old. I had a nice time with #3 son and !st. GS and #5,GS. Always nice to see family . The shower went real well too, The rumor was started that a male stripper was going to show up, let me tell you there was some real disappointed looks on their face's when he was a no show. Must have been just a rumor, I wonder who started that? It just goes to show you, women can have a good time even without the star attraction.
Sun is shining temp. going up,I guess spring is acomming.
My weight stayed at my goal another week, sure can tell I'm doing more physical work, down on the farm, cause I ate like a pig this week.
Life is great, have a good week.

A very important event is going to take place in a couple of months, our first GS is going to get married. Now this is a big deal, it takes much planning and of course new clothes. We started this process some time ago, went to the big stores like Bergners etc. at least they had chairs to sit on, to finally a "dress shop only" store with no chairs. Kept trying on one after another until I finally told DW to narrow the field down some then call me, I went to find a place to sit. No chairs at all, went to front of store and sat on front window display. When people went by I struck a manikin pose, I might have looked a little out of place in the women's dress display. One neighbor merchant recognized me and knocked on the window. Then the call would come, honey come here, I need your help. please Zip me up in the back. Now there is no good way to report this but have you ever tried putting on a small glove when you wear a medium? I tell you these dress makers play games with the sizes, I finally had to ask the sales lady to try cause I thought I might tear it, she did get it zipped . Now the question, what do you think honey, do you like it? Now that is a loaded Question. I realized right then I might not live through this. I cautiously say I'm not sure I like all those ruffles around your belly. She answers, I just don't look good in Pastels, do you think? Yes, your probably right dear. Whew! Might have got by that one O K.
Come home, both tired, she comes down from the bedroom with this sharp looking hot pink number on, WOW. Do you think anyone will remember this from our son's wedding in KC over 7 years ago? I don't think so this one is in IN. She says I think it needs something don't you? Be careful how you answer Skeeter, I say it might be a touch too long, since you lost all that weight, sure glad I added that last part. Comes back down with those fake looking diamonds around neck and wrist they sure sparkle and I say, thinking about the $400 I would be saving, you look MARVELOUS. I meant it and she felt good in it. So it looks like I live to write another day. It will need to be shortened some but it is a winner. Now if any of you women out there recognize this dress from 7 years ago please say nothing, I will deny you heard it here.
What's this, I lost a lbs. this week, isn't life great. Have a wonderful week.

Some weeks are better than others, this was not one of them, too many deaths. A former classmate of ours Mother died, my last Aunt died and Jesus died on the cross. The good news is my Aunt put her faith in Jesus and Jesus arose to save us all from our sins.
Spring has to come soon my DW saw the first robin of the year and the snow birds are planning their return trip home.
Now back to the funeral, I have instructed all who will listen NOT, I repeat, NOT to let anyone get up and say things about me at my funeral, I can just hear them say what a nasty guy I was and go on and on and say and another thing . I need to put a stop to it right now.
Now with that out of the way I almost forgot to report I gained 1 lbs. this week, not bad for feeding at the food trough of two funerals and big meal last night with family at a favorite restaurant. Next week will get better.
Have a happy Easter everyone.
