Hey Fellow Sparkies,
Glad to be back after a long hiatus. Definitely missed you all because you have been my support system for over a year now. Anyway, this month is my birthday month and for me March roared like a lion. I hit up three Zumba classes this week with three different instructors. If you know anything about Zumba you know it's a Latin-inspired workout that has quite a few dance moves. But if you struggle with coordination and rhythm, don't let that discourage you - just go to the back of the class. I love to dance and I always go to the back of the class because I like to watch the instructor before a venture off and do my own thing. The point of the class is to MOVE!! Anyway, check out my stats for the three instructors. The classes are an hour long.
Instructor 1: Boogie Down Bob - burned 738 calories
Instructor 2: Becky the Beast - burned 514 calories
Instructor 3: Rockin Rhonda - burned 908 calories
Total calories burned 2160!
I did this so you can see that Zumba is entirely instructor-driven so if you don't like a class, I would encourage you to try a different instructor that is more your dance style. As you can see I burned the least amount with Becky, not because she is a bad instructor, but because she has a different rhythmic style. All three of these instructors have full classes so there are a lot of people that enjoy their styles.
If you haven't tried it I would encourage you to drop in on a class. The most I ever paid to drop in was $10. You will want to wear loose fitting clothes, a headband because you will sweat, and the least grippy gymshoes you have. They do a lot of twisting and turning so be nice to your knees and wear either dance shoes or gymshoes without a lot of traction. If you don't have either, just be sure to pivot on your toes.
The workout is awesome so go get your groove on!
