The Weekend...

I just read a really good article (occasionally I do stop to actually READ them rather than scan through quickly to redeem my Sparkpoints! I know, I know...the shame!!!) about weekend eating and how it can be so detrimental to your weight loss goals. It totally spoke to me because I always use the excuse of "Saturday and Sunday are my off days" to thoroughly enjoy whatever it is that may come across my plate. I wish I could tell you all the title of the article so you could find it too and be inspired...but alas...(LOL)...I can't!

I also want to share with whoever is reading this that I've been making my own smoothies lately for breakfast in the morning. They are incredibly simple and delicioso!
Just take a tsp of vanilla extract, 1 medium banana, 1 cup crushed ice and about 4 strawberries and blend it together. Quick and delicious and great for the working person on the go in the mornings!

...run.

Back in the day...actually just a few months ago...I used to run on the treadmill or sometimes run outside. Running/Jogging was the purrrfect way to maintain my weight, etc. Well then I met a guy and fell in love and I stopped running. I replaced my jogs with dinners at great restaurants with my sweetie; post-work movies with my sweetie; or some other activity with the man I love and usually great food that I love.

Sure I worked out...here and there. But it was never the same once I stopped running.

I need to start running again. Everything will go back in order. I'm spending countless minutes and hours in the gym...doing time on the Elliptical or the Arc Trainer and for some reason, even though I'm burning calories, my body is still reluctant to let go...sure it's coming off...but I'm not getting the same results as I received when I would jog.

So why is this even worth a blog entry??? Because the twist is that I hate running. I hate the thought of it. I defeat myself mentally before I even hit the treadmill or pavement. But...ooohhh...when I do finally psych myself up to run...after about 5mins...I get that high...and suddenly its not so bad. Until its done and I'm cursing the ground...or treadmill. But then I get those benefits and my crazy psycho love hate relationship with running begins all over again.

So tomorrow I will run. Or jog. Or just make sure I go above 4.6 on the treadmill. I need to give my workouts an extra kick and I think this just might be the solution.

    Before you start running, you might want to check out one of the couch to 5K programs. Don't assume that you can just jump back into running. I made that mistake thinking I could restart running where I'd left off. wrong. I ended up with dreadful shin splints the first week.

Start slowly. Check out a couch to 5K program. it assumes no prior running experience and will literally take you from the couch to a 5K road race. it's great for people returning to running too. You can go here for a good program.

Also, make sure you're wearing proper running shoes. Don't wear any old pair of cross trainers. make sure you're wearing properly fitted shoes or you will end up with foot problems.

The Blog Entry...The First Real Emotion

We are encouraged by this site to write daily blog entries. And being that I am a person who loves to gab...this should be the most easiest part about being a member of this website...right???
I can't really figure out why I find this so difficult...maybe because I'm hesitant to share how I'm REALLY feeling about this weight loss journey. The first real raw truth to the whole matter is that I'm pissed off I'm in a battle with bulge. I freakin' love to eat and had done a pretty good job keeping myself fit despite my food obsession. The hows and the whys are redundant in my mind. I know all the reasons WHY i'm overweight...I'm just continually kicking myself because I KNOW BETTER! lol.

But I'm energized and motivated - i want my body back dammit. the next time I see my doctor, I want to walk in her office, step proudly on the scale and then tell her to kiss my ____ when it comes back reading a "normal" weight for my height. LOL. Take that for telling me I'm overweight and giving me the "yes, you" look medical lady!

So in an effort to be "raw and real" with cyberspace...there you have it...the first real thing I've probably shared in my blog entries about my weight loss journey.

The Beach Plan

So I'm heading to the Dominican Republic on Thursday...I've been using my time at work, huddle in my office, printing out various workouts from this website. One of my goals during this vacay is to make sure I still exercise while I'm there. I love to swim and already know that I will get plenty of exercise while in the pool and ocean...however, I want to make sure that I'm doing something else to go along with that. I've worked very hard so far and I just want to not lose total focus on my overall goals. The fact that I'm going to be decked in various fab one piece swimsuits the whole time is enough motivation for me to know that the next big vacay I'm taking in late June...I'm hoping to be brave enough to wear a two-piece! And then there's the annual Girls Trip in August...secretly, and I know this sounds horrible...but I want the girls to think I've got my 22 year old body back again! LOL.

Sigh.

    you can do just focus on all the fun you can have doing things that don't involve food. make every event about the people around you and the environment you are in.

Dieting on a Vacay???

So next week I'm headed to the Dominican where I usually indulge myself in everything that's wonderful about Caribbean/Latino food. How inconvenient that I am trying to still lose 20lbs at the same time! LOL.

Any ideas or tips Sparkers???

I've already pre-committed myself to jogging every day...or at least getting in some type of exercise everyday. I figured that if I skipped on eating sweet stuff and watched the carbs...I should be okay to love all the marvelous meaty dishes...and oh rice! I love rice! Growing up it was with almost every meal! How do I pass on the rice??

    I think everything in moderation is ok, as long a you stay with in your claories, and servings. Make sure there's measuring utensils available for you and you should be fine,You can always do a breakfast and lunch meal plan that u will stick to and save your fav dominican mealfor dinner ...enjoy your trip hun! After all that what a vacation is for
