More or Less Hanging In There

Sunday, February 16, 2014

So I definitely have not been very faithful to my eating, exercising, or updating habits...
But I am working on the SparkPeople #2Fit2Quit February challenge, and while I have not made it every day, I am increasing the number of days that I am exercising, which is a great and much needed thing.

Day 1: 3 mile walk in 50 minutes and 27 minutes of jogging intervals
Day 2: 3 mile walk in 53 minutes
Day 4: 1.75 mile walk in 30 minutes
Day 6: 3 mile walk in 50 minutes
Day 8: 3 mile walk in 52 minutes
Day 10: Floor ab exercises and free weights 10 minutes
Day 14: 4.5 miles in 78 minutes
Day 15: 4.5 miles in 73 minutes
Day 16: 4.5 miles in 75 minutes

I am currently at 157.6 lbs.
This week I will aim for getting at least 10 minutes of exercise each day and cutting down my snacks to one in the afternoon and one in the evening if I need the second one.
I HAVE been doing well with my water intake and getting 8 glasses a day.

Thanks for checking up on me!
~Jules

Checking In, Not Out!

Friday, September 27, 2013

Just a few days from now is my original goal date, September 30th. I had set my goal weight to be at 135 lbs by that time. I am not there yet. I am still working my way through the mid 150s. But I am not giving up! I am still working at it! And I am now beginning to find a balance between fitness, grad school, and substitute teaching. It's not a perfect balance, nor is it even a good balance just yet, but it is a work in progress!

On September 30th I will reset my goals and update all my program details, that way I can get a more accurate picture of a new goal date. But in the meantime, I am a month and a half away from my one year anniversary with SparkPeople! WOOT! I wonder what I can get down to between now and then!!! That's about 7 weeks! Hmm... I think I will set a short term goal for that date when I weigh in on Sunday!

I am still working on conquering my late night snacking and my candy consumption... I have not been behaving well over the last couple of months...
The mindless snacking while studying and writing papers is one thing I did not miss and I am not happy about it reappearing in my behaviors.

But I can get through this! My will is stronger than it used to be! I can and will be a healthier, happier, and smarter version of myself, all at the same time! emoticon

And thank you so very much to my wonderful SparkFriends for checking up on me during the time that I wasn't sparking! I really appreciate it!

I miss mindless snacking at night.... :-(
Lol
That said ! ......
There are many of us who have not met the goals we've set for ourselves...believe me, you are not alone. Even though I haven't met mine, I'm just glad I'm not where I was at the beginning.
Keep at it, be mindful and stay in the game.

    Way to go, Jules!
"The mindless snacking while studying and writing papers is one thing I did not miss and I am not happy about it reappearing in my behaviors. "
Have you tried keeping healthy treats on hand--fresh fruit/veggies, health bars (maybe cut into bite-size pieces so you can pretend you're eating candy : ), Veggie Straws, etc.?

I haven't met my goal either. Close, but not there yet. However, like you, I have not gone back to my starting weight. So not giving up...just need to keep on trying with exercise, and healthier meals.

It sounds like you're doing pretty well - congrats on all your progress so far! I'm discovering that grad school definitely takes a toll on my motivation to exercise and eat right - it's hard to find the time sometimes! emoticon

Even if you haven't met your original goal, you're doing great. I think we've all set goals and not met them. The most important thing is to just re-evaluate and keep on trucking. It sounds like you're doing great so far. emoticon

Weigh-In Update

Sunday, August 11, 2013

Highest Weight: 193.2 lbs
SP Start Weight: 180
Last Week: 154.4
This Week: 152.4

Yay! I'm finally back under 153 lbs! I've been hovering right in this some 3-5 lbs range for about 3 months now, hopefully I am finally breaking this plateau! Crossing my fingers!

And I even had a party last night that I attended! I was very pleasantly surprised at the number for this week! I had alcohol and cupcakes and whatnot last night, but I managed to not overeat badly. Perhaps I am finally getting the hang of this!

I've done much better this week at getting all my water in, so that's probably helping as well.

I went for a 3 mile walk this morning, but it was already very hot. I think I'll have to get up earlier to do my walking.

My grad school classes start tomorrow! Woohoo! Wish me luck!

Well, OK. Good Luck! But you really don't need any. You've got it by the %%%%, and it is listening to you.

Keeping It Rolling

Friday, August 02, 2013

I did end up going for a walk the other evening. In fact, I wound up jogging, too! Woot! I felt accomplished! But I ended up not doing any squats the next day because my knee kept popping. And I could feel my body really dragging after 5 straight days of exercise after not having done a whole lot for a while. So I declared Thursday a rest day.

And today, Friday, I mowed the yard. I had to wait for the grass to dry out a bit, so once I started it was a bit warmer than I cared for. BUT I can tell I'm getting better/faster/stronger because it only took me 115 minutes to mow the whole yard instead of 140 or more. And thankfully the grass was still short enough that it didn't choke the engine even once! Bonus!

Tomorrow I will be getting up early and making sure I walk in the morning. I have an afternoon and evening out with friends planned. I will be doing my best to keep my eating in check, drink mostly water, and only one glass of wine. We are probably going to have Mexican food for a late lunch and then go see a Shakespeare play that my friend is in. It will be a fun day!
But I want to make sure that I keep my motivation and making forward progress, so I need to take that walk tomorrow morning.

I hope you have a fun weekend planned as well!

Nice going on the exercise. Always felt good to have a recovery day. Sometimes the body really needs it, and this is better than breaking yourself (like I do).

Either way, have a nice weekend and enjoy the play. emoticon

Renewing My Determination

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

I've been away for a while. And even when I was on Sparkpeople, I was just logging in to spin the wheel, not to log exercise or track my food. The results are not fun. When I left for Florida close to two months ago, I just lost all my motivation to do right by myself. I was eating and drinking whatever was close at hand, and lots of it. I wasn't exercising either.

So now I am dragging my butt back into gear, dealing with all of the hunger and munchy cravings, and feeling tired as my body reacquaints itself with exercise and healthy foods.

Saturday I went swimming for a little while at my cousins's house
Sunday I weighed in at 153.8 lbs, back up again. So I went for a 3 mile walk.
Monday I walked 3 miles and did 25 minutes of jogging intervals.
Today I am on day 9 of the 30 day squat challenge (I am attempting it again since I only made it to day 25 last time) and I am planning on going for a walk this evening. If it rains, I will pop in an exercise DVD. But I will exercise this evening.

So I am on a small roll, but sometimes that's all it takes to get me moving again. I am determined that I will not give up, that I will get to my goal. I may not get there by the time that I had originally planned, but I will get there!

But in other life news, I am ready for my grad school classes to start in 2 weeks, and I am mostly ready for my job as a substitute teacher to begin! And one of my best friends is coming home from 3 years out of the country this week, so we will be able to hang out again from now on! Another friend got a large roll in a play, so we are planning to go see her perform this weekend, and then have a big reunion party with some of the other girls we went to high school with the next weekend! Yay for party times! But I will have to be careful to keep on track so that I have wiggle room for the party.
