What's your plan?

Monday, August 02, 2010

So I attended an event lead by Dan Miller and the 48Days crew in Tennessee recently.

It ties in so beautifully with what we do here on Sparkpeople. Here's the idea sparking in my head today:

Don't give up and be helpless in times of trouble.

Instead Fire UP! Plug IN! Rally YOUR support team!

Life can be tough.

Plan ahead.

Then work your plan with everything you got.

Are you worth planning ahead for?

(the correct answer is "Yes" in case you weren't sure)

Started the year with prayer for people I love.

Then met some friends to run the first 5K of my 2010 year - 35:58 is a new PR for me! WOO HOO

I'm on track to be fine for calories today - praise God!

I'm getting work done around the house to get it ready to put on the market this spring if need be. I'm making career decisions that are tough - do I keep doing what I know to do, where I've been doing it for some time (safe option) or do I look around and see if there's another place I can use my skills (scary option)?

I'm not sure.

When I am, I'll let you know.

My modem's still down at home, so I'm pirating time on other computers until I A - get my modem fixed or B - get this modem that was given to me to work or C - buy a new one. So far, I don't feel a rush to get it done....

Keep on inspiring me! I may read on my little phone screen, but it's hard to post from the phone, so rock on whether I stop by much (or not)

Sparking slowly

Sunday, November 01, 2009

Am still around.

Just not on as much. This is a lifestyle change, and unfortunately I've had to give higher priority to some other areas of my life that are taking away from my time here on SP.

There's no less love, just less time.

Keep on sparking your life changes! What little I do read tends to be you my friends....

Sometimes, I feel like life is one big test

Friday, October 02, 2009

So, school has started. It's going to be one of "those" years. I am thankful to have a job, but as with everyone else, I'm doing more for less. That means less time on SP, less time on leisure, etc etc etc

When I get stressed, I get active, so I spent some time writing encouraging notes this week to build others up - you know. It's that idea where you give away what you need the most?

Anyway, I'm dressed for work this morning, I have 10 minutes before I need to leave the house. I choose to take the dog for a quick walk down the cul de sac- healthy choice, right?

I see a neighbor using his garden hose to clear off his driveway and the curb in front of his house. I walk down the cul de sac no problem. Am coming back towards my house, on his side of the street. He's squatting down doing something, he doesn't say anything to me, so I just kinda leave him alone. I let my dog jump up onto the grass of HIS neighbors house and he fires the garden hose nozzle at me and the dog. I spin around and he says quickly "Don't let your dog pee on my grass"

A - I'm in your neighbor's yard.

B - He's peed out. He peed in my backyard, and about 10 other yards before coming to yours.

C - I'm dressed for work, you idiot, suit jacket and everything, and now because I'm wet, I have to go home and change - which makes me almost late for work.

The day has gotten better, but wow. Feels like I pass one test only to be confronted with another some days.......

Man, I can definitely relate to that. I feel like I'm in either in a crisis or headed towards one. The punches seem to just keep coming. Sorry that guy treated you like a jerk. Don't let him get you down. Maybe he hadn't had his morning coffee yet. But then again, some people are just like that.

By any chance, do you live next door to my dad??? Sounds like something he'd do, which is why we rarely take the kids over there. Some people are so weird... Sorry he acted that way towards you.

Anybody read these books?

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Dave recommend 5 books to small business owners.

*Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Kiyosaki

*The E-Myth - Gerber (E stands for Entrepreneur)

Built to Last, *Good To Great, How the Mighty Fall - Jim Collins

*Tribes, Purple Cow, Permission Marketing - Seth Godin

Free - Chris Anderson

Outlyers - Malcolm Gladwell

Zig Ziglar books (all)

How to Win Friends and Influence People - Dale Carnegie

*QBQ (Question Behind the Question), *First Things First - John Miller

*21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership - John Maxwell

*Thou Shall Prosper - Daniel Lapin

I've read several of these, but would welcome your comments!! I need some books to read on my "marathon recovery" days on the treadmill or cycle. I want to set some priorities. The starred titles I have read....

Thanks for your comments!!!!

What I like about Dale Carnegie's books is that even tho the setting is last century, the truths and values are so poignant and sooooo applicable to TODAY that it is breathtaking. Absolutely amazing. Real values-based books. I also like his classic, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. I read it about every other year; used to read it once a year.
