Watoto African Children's Choir

Monday, January 30, 2012

Good Morning All,

Tomorrow our church is having an African Children's Choir come and perform for us. They sing, dance and do some drama, it is a lively and exciting night of awesome ministry. Not only do they sing but they share their personal stories. It certainly will be an awesome night of ministry.

Below is a an excerpt of what Watoto is all about. I am providing the link for you to go to their website and see for yourself what this awesome work is all about. If you ever have the opportunity to have this group come and sing at your Church you will be in for a real treat.

Following four years of pastoral ministry in Canada, the Skinners moved to Zambia as missionaries in 1979. The move to Africa had always been on Gary’s heart, but the location and meaning didn’t become clear until four years later.

In 1982, Gary moved his young family to Kampala, the war-torn capital of Uganda, to plant an English-speaking church in the heart of the city. Watoto Church (formerly KPC), a cell-based community church is touching both the city and the nation with the love of Jesus. Over 17,000 people attend one of the 20 weekend services at the 8 district celebration points across the city.

The ministry has also been extended to reach out to vulnerable women as well as the war-affected community in Northern Uganda including the many child soldiers who were forced to become weapons of war.

Since 1994 the Watoto Children's Choir, founded by Gary and Marilyn, have travelled all around the world as advocates for the children of Africa. Their lively singing inspires audiences as they witness first hand the hope and joy the children have found in Jesus Christ.

Psalm 71

Psalm 71 New International Version

1 In you, LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame.

2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;
turn your ear to me and save me.

3 Be my rock of refuge,
to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.

4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.

5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD,
my confidence since my youth.

6 From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
I will ever praise you.

7 I have become a sign to many;
you are my strong refuge.

8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.

9 Do not cast me away when I am old;
do not forsake me when my strength is gone.

10 For my enemies speak against me;
those who wait to kill me conspire together.

11 They say, “God has forsaken him;
pursue him and seize him,
for no one will rescue him.”

12 Do not be far from me, my God;
come quickly, God, to help me.

13 May my accusers perish in shame;
may those who want to harm me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.

14 As for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.

15 My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds,
of your saving acts all day long—
though I know not how to relate them all.

16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.

17 Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.

18 Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.

19 Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,
you who have done great things.
Who is like you, God?

20 Though you have made me see troubles,
many and bitter,
you will restore my life again;
from the depths of the earth
you will again bring me up.

21 You will increase my honor
and comfort me once more.

22 I will praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
Holy One of Israel.

23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you—
I whom you have delivered.

24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
all day long,
for those who wanted to harm me
have been put to shame and confusion.

NIV Women's Devotional: Resting in God's Arms

At Issue - Doubting God

Verse: Exodus 5:22–23

Shouldn’t a goal or ministry, if it’s truly from God, be achieved without problems or setbacks? We’ve done exactly what’s expected of us—why are things still going wrong? It’s normal to feel frustrated and confused in moments like these. Moses did. He wasn’t afraid to share his true feelings with God. Our doubts do not anger God. In fact, God uses roadblocks in our lives to make us doubt our own plans and rely on him. You may have the perfect skills for the job, but your true strength will always come when you’re resting in God’s arms.

This devotion is from the NIV New Women's Devotional Bible or True Identity by Zondervan. Used with permission.

Missions Fest 2012

Saturday, January 28, 2012

Hi All,

I went to Missions Fest for the day. I sure had an awesome day. I met a friend and her husband for coffee and some lunch before my day began. We had great fellowship.

I went around all the Missionary booths and met a lot of interesting missionaries. It was great hearing about the work they do abroad. I couldn't take photo's as in the exhibit room camera's were not allowed. They had their own in house camera person.

Later I'll post some photo's from the exhibits Missions Fest took.

I went to the Christian Bible Book Store that had a table and bought a new Daily Bible, reading through the Bible in 1 year. I bought 2 classic books from Charles Spurgeon entitled "Holy Spirit Power" and Andrew Murray entitled "Humility", I can hardly wait to dig in these classics, I have several books from these authors already so added to my library.

I bought a new scripture daily planner and a new scriptural daily journal. I was sure spoiled. I was given a key chain and pen from the Praise 106.5 FM Radio station booth which also handed out free magazines.

I took in 2 seminars which were so uplifting, the speakers were dynamic. The first seminar was entitled, Go... Receiving God's Heart for the World by Christina Williams; and Discover God's Purpose, Embrace your Part, Perspectives on the World Christian Movement by Sharon Walraven. Excellent speakers and a wealth of Biblical Truths and Evangelism packed in to 2 excellent seminars, 1 hour each session.

So there you have it, a day filled with much blessings...

Psalm 70

Psalm 70 New International Version (NIV)

For the director of music. Of David. A petition.

1 Hasten, O God, to save me;
come quickly, LORD, to help me.

2 May those who want to take my life
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
be turned back in disgrace.

3 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
turn back because of their shame.

4 But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The LORD is great!”

5 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
come quickly to me, O God.
You are my help and my deliverer;
LORD, do not delay.
