Slacking

Sunday, February 21, 2010

I seem to be slacking and I need to figure out why.

Need to clear my head. Get focused again. Write a list of all the things I need to get done, so I can prioritize.

Take a deep breath, sit down with a cup of hot tea and relax. This is a journey, with a few bumps in it, but a neverending journey nevertheless. Try to remember the things that are working for you and scratch out the things that make you stumble and fret. Press past your comfort zone and remember to have your goals written out and in sight as a constant reminder. I'm praying for you and cheering you on. You can do this! And we're here for you!

So many significant dates

Friday, February 12, 2010

Saw a blog yesterday that was "Day ....." three hundred and something. Made me think about how long it can take to make new habits that last. Today is 47 days since I started concentrating on all this again. But if I really think about it there would be many other starting points and the count would be much higher.

I've been on SP since Thanksgiving 2005 so that would be 4 years and 2 1/2 months. I was very successful when I first started back then. Worked out at home with Leslie Sansone dvd's and some fit television shows.

Must be something significant about Thanksgiving for me. Is it because of all the celebratory meals we are planning to eat, or maybe it's because another year is ending, and I haven't made the progress I had planned.

Thanksgiving 2006 is a marker too - I joined my local gym again and hired a personal trainer. My trainer worked me hard and introduced me to one of the most important people in my life. My gym buddy.

Jan - May 2007 I did a Biggest Loser competition at the gym and lost the most weight I have in a long time and changed the shape of my body significantly.

June 2007 I started to train for a 5K - made even more changes to my body - incredible what running does for those legs!!

December 2007 was a notably bad month - the gym I had rejoined in 2006 closed. This was the same gym I had belonged to on and off since I was 17. Sad day and still greatly missed. It was the "Cheers" of gyms - everyone knew your name and there was this great energy about the place.

So 2008 was a year of floundering - couldn't find a new place I liked to work out in - lost touch with my gym buddy - had some health issues. Gained back all the weight plus some and lost all that great strength and flexibility I had worked so hard to get.

Hello Thanksgiving 2008!! Reconnected with my gym buddy. Joined the new gym they put in place of the old favorite. It was a year of trying to get back. Notice I used that word "try". Really it's not that great of a word. It usually means I already know I'm not going to succeed. So no more trying!!

December 2009 lets do something new. More less than stellar medical news. Found "Eat-Clean Diet'.

January 2010 even more get your act together NOW medical news. So some "trying" to get back to the gym. Renewed effort on the eating.

February 2010 I'm doing. Yes there was a virus last week that interferred with my plans, but my thinking is still very clear on what I need to do. This week was a complete week at the gym and started to track what I eat.

Now I am looking to the future for some significant dates:

Reaching onderland for the last time!
Getting out of the obese category and into overweight.
Getting out of overweight and into the healthy category.
Reaching my ultimate goal!!!

or things like:

Running my first 10k
Running the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon.
Running the Cincinnati flying pig marathon!

So much to look forward to! And it's all so very good!!

Awesome! It's wonderful to sit down and write your journey out. AND to know that you are still on that journey. It really never ends, but even if you've swerved off course for a season, you're back on the road to a healthier YOU! Keep on DOING!

February 11, 2010

Good workout this morning. Warmed up on treadmill - then did a circuit to work arms, shoulders, legs and glutes. I need to work on a plan ahead of time so I will move quicker and keep my heart rate up. Finished with 30 minutes on the Arc trainer.

Logged my food from yesterday and I did great! Stayed in my range for all the important ones! Improved some of the extra nutrients I am watching.

One good day down - now to keep myself motivated!

Tracking

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Okay I've been fighting this one. I know that I will start to track and then stop after a couple days. So I thought well just learn to eat right without tracking. Yeah right!! That's not happening!

When I bought the Eat-clean Diet end of December, I also bought the "companion" which is a tracker with pages to write weekly goals and then a monthly assessment. I have started and stopped using it a couple times now. Sunday I decided to use it to plan my week. Great idea - so I filled it in with all my meals for the week using pencil. Well I did great following it for 3 out of the 14 meals I've eaten so far. So today I wrote in pen what I really did. I then took the time to enter all the information into Spark Peoples nutrition tracker. It shows me going over in calories and just about everything for the two complete days.

So I have decided to put in the extra effort and continue this habit. This will be my new streak. Plan my menu on Sunday - fill in my actual what I ate in pen - then enter the previous day into Spark people every morning after working out to see how I really did. The only way I am going to get mindful about what I am eating is to really pay attention!!

I am also going to use my new $5 jump rope this morning to get in some exercise.

good for you - I've read (on more than one occasion) of those folks that have actually reached their goal weight and still track their food. Like you, I take Sunday to plan out my week, cook meals, etc. It's really saved me time in the long run. It sounds like you have the right idea. Good luck!

Wish I could bottle that energy

Monday, February 08, 2010

This morning was one of those mornings that felt perfect! I woke up easily, had a clear mind and was ready for my workout. My workout went really well - I was able to push myself and felt strong. Cardio made me sweat and was challenging enough to leave my legs feeling rubbery. Mentally I felt great! Now if only I could bottle all that up and take a sip as needed!!
