2014 Monthly Weight Loss November Update (with pics)

Thursday, November 06, 2014

Yeah, so seeing nobody really reads these blogs I didn't bother doing one last month. And when I don't have positive things to mention it's pretty much worthless. I'm obviously in a bad place right now. I've gained more weight and now weigh-in at 380lbs yet again. However, last year I was 410 on this date, so I guess that's a plus. I'm by no means giving up I am just having a hard time getting started again.

Kids are doing well. Eric turned 4 years old. Where has the time gone?! And Emily is keeping busy in school having joined chorus and taken up percussion instruments. We went down to Panama this past month. The kids had such a great time. I had an OK time. It was pretty much as I anticipated. Kathy was in the kitchen the entire time we were there. We actually decided to stay an extra day and that's when we got to go out and drive around some. We were staying with her parents, they have a nice house there. The party was nice but not much was for Eric and I feel bad about that but I've been spoiling him since. We did take them to the canal that last day where even I learned for the first time that the kids Great Great Grandfather (Grandmothers side) built the Canal and their Great Grandfather (Grandfathers side) worked there in the early days. Emily bought some souvenirs and wrote a story about her time there and presented it to her class. They loved it.

Halloween was so-so this year. Emily came down with a fever while in school and we had to pick her up early and she was unable to put her costume on and walk in the parade with her classmates. Kathy handmade the Minecraft costume over the last month and they were both sad about it. I did take Emily trick or treating at night with her brother though and took some pics and she later showed her class those as well and they really liked it. Eric was a S.W.A.T. officer.

Kathy is doing the same, she has her good and bad days with her neck but is back at work. Nothing to do with the accident but due to seniority she lost the bid for her position at work and will not be teaching anymore. She is very upset about this. As are many of her coworkers. She has always loved teaching. The person that took her spot only wants it because of the holidays and weekends off schedule. This is not good considering the type of job it is. And hopefully they will be making some changes soon and she will get it back before the 2 years before the next bid.

Here are a couple pics:

Nothing much else to say. I need to get back on track. Sick of yet another year going by and I'm saying the same things over and over. Hope everyone enjoys the holidays.

Take care and stay healthy

Cute kids! They definitly prove you have more than enough reasons to get healthy. It's a hard thing to do though if your mind isn't in it. You have to get your head in the game or your game will be over sooner than you think. Good luck on this journey. Its certainly the hardest one ever but it will be worth it in the end. emoticon emoticon emoticon Great job for losing what you have so far! emoticon

I'm with you on saying the same things over and over. You and I seem to be stuck in the same rut. I wake up with so much ambition in the morning, but by noon I've usually done a 180...sigh.

Love the pictures. Glad to hear the trip was pretty good, I know you were nervous about it. Looks like the kids had a good time. If there is one thing I've learned, you're probably having a harder time about Eric's birthday celebrations than he is. We're so hard on ourselves at times as parents. Especially if we feel like we are making up for maybe things we missed as kids. I don't know if you deal with that, but I do at times. I had a good childhood, don't get me wrong...OK, not going to ramble.

Thanks for sharing everything, I enjoy your blogs, always have emoticon

Not gonna talk smack, but Go Steelers this weekend!! emoticon

Have a great day Mike!

2014 Monthly Weight Loss September Update

Sunday, September 07, 2014

Once again I begin my monthly blog with some disappointing news. I regained the weight I had lost last month once again. It's been one big up and down summer. It's all on me. And I'm OK with it somewhat. I did lose the weight to win my most recent dietbet and another $50+ though.

Otherwise it has been a great month. Kathy, my wife is back to work. She is still in some pain from her May accident but that's something she will unfortunately have to deal with the rest of her life. I have also been to not one but two Mets games this past month. The first with my wife which was nice. The second, more importantly was our first family sporting event including #Erics1stMetsGame We all had a great time and the Mets won! The kids were supposed to run the bases after the game but the weather cancelled that. Disappointing but something to look forward to next time. We went and applied for the kids passports the other day. Well, reapplied for Emily's and Eric's is new. They are excited about our vacation to Panama next month. We are traveling to celebrate the birthday of Kathy's GreatAunt. The party itself happens to be on Eric's 4th birthday. So we will make sure everyone celebrates that as well. I just hope he is OK on that long flight, it will be his first time on an airplane. Emily has been on a plane once before, for HER 4th birthday when we went to Disney World a few years ago.

School has finally began and both kids are doing well after their first week. This fall the kids will not be playing soccer which means I will not be coaching. I'm a little indifferent about this but it is what it is. Emily will be able to attend more Girl Scout meetings. And I'm thinking of putting Eric in a martial arts class of some sort. So they won't be sitting in front of the tv by any means. And today begins football season! J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS

Over the next month I hope I can get in to a rhythm now that kids are back in school and wife is back to work. And I can lose some weight before our trip next month.

Take care and stay healthy

Sounds like life has been keeping you quite busy, as always. Glad to hear K is back to work. You know all to well about lasting pain...I'm sure you still deal with it from your own accident. Sometimes it helps when you can relate. DH suffers with pain from breaking his femur 6 years ago, and I have no idea what that must be like.
Anyway...
vacations sound like fun! Hope you all have a great time and Eric enjoys celebrating his bday abroad!

So yes, the kids are in school. I have miss Carly at home with me, but that's no excuse. Let's kick some a$$ this month Mike!

Hugs,
Beth

2014 Monthly Weight Loss August Update

Wednesday, August 06, 2014

Hi everyone. Hope you are enjoying your summer. I for one haven't been having the greatest of summers. It hasn't been as hot as I like it, not hitting 90* yet. It has been nice though. However, it's been too cool for the pool or beach most of the time. Also, financially we have been struggling since wife is still out of work. So we haven't done much with the kids or gone anywhere.

Well, as I said Kathy is still out of work. She decided to go in for the second epidural. It seems to have helped but just a bit. She sees the doctor again later this week and we will as always, wait and see. She is planning on going back to work soon though.

I did get the kids on their bicycles for the first time this year. Emily was a nervous wreck. Would not trust me for anything. I did run up and down the block with her a few times (good for me) but she was trying to get off as we were moving not believing that I had total control of her and the bike. Eric was better, starting on training wheels he was a little nervous but was having fun.

I'm thrilled to say my blood pressure is back to normal and I was able to donate blood once again. And soon I will go back and give some platelets. They really love my AB+ blood type! LOL

I joined another dietbet this past month. If you don't know about them, check them out at www.dietbet.com This is my second, both times hosted by Chris and Heidi Powell from Extreme Weight Loss on ABC. I won back over $54 last time and this time the pot is more then double that so I plan to win a bunch more. I enjoy having another weigh-in during the month halfway between my own personal weigh-ins on the 6th of each month. It doesn't allow me to cheat at all.

And the all important monthly update stat. I have lost the weight I gained last month, so that's good. Looking to keep the downward trend going. Feeling good. Future looking positive... so far. Kids start school on Sept. 2nd this year. A blink of an eye away. I received free Mets tickets for donating blood and will attend that game next week. And I have tickets for the four of us to go at the end of the month. Should be fun.

Thanks for reading. Take care and stay healthy.

2014 Monthly Weight Loss July Update (LATE)

Friday, July 11, 2014

If you read the last words of my previous blog, I did surprise myself. Unfortunately, not in a positive way. I gained some weight. I am back up to 358 lbs. It has been yet another tiring month with my wife home and out of work still from her car accident in May. She went in for an epidural. A last choice to help ease the pain. It really has not worked. She has her bad days and her good days. And as of right now is scheduled to go back to work in mid-August. But we will see about that as time passes.

I did go on vacation last month as planned. Along with my cousin we went to Atlantis in The Bahamas for 5 days. I've stayed in The Bahamas twice before but never at Atlantis. It was nice. We had issues when we first checked in because they gave us a room with a view of a roof which is clearly not a view of the ocean as we requested and paid for. Walking around the property was nice however it is very dirty and worn down and needs a serious makeover. The room was clean and very nice and updated though, so no problems there. On a bad note, the weather stunk! It rained everyday, and not just rain but thunderstorms. It was not fun. We did get out and do the lazy river, rapid river and one of the many water slides but we didn't get to do much of anything else. The last day we checked out was the nicest day, of course, and after leaving our luggage with the bell boy we headed out to the beach for the first time to lay out. We were able to do so for only 2 1/2 hours. And since we hadn't gotten any sun I decided not to put on sunblock. DUMB! I came home and had sun poisoning with blisters all over my body. And although she put sunblock on she had poisoning too. Go figure. At least I was able to go jetskiing one day. And I gambled each day too, but lost.

Emily finished second grade with all 4s on her report card. We also found out she was accepted in to TAG (Talented and Gifted program) for next year. We are so proud. Eric had his promotion Brunch in nursery school. But his progress report wasn't great. We need to work with him a lot before next September comes around.

My wife and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary and 17 years to the day we met. We were unable to celebrate much though as news of her grandmothers illness got worse. And a couple days later she passed away. We rented a truck and drove down to Orlando and stayed at a hotel for a few days before driving back up. All (11 including her Mom) her Aunts and Uncles were there and although the circumstances were not ideal it was nice to see everyone especially at the same time. I was able to purchase some fireworks on the side of the road on July 4th for the kids to enjoy... OK, and myself and the adults. Although the are illegal in Florida unless you tell the police officer they are for "Agricultural Purposes" meaning to keep birds away... LOL. Seriously, you can't make this up. The trip down took a little longer then expected but that's what happens when you have two small kids, one who has never driven that far before and also when it wasn't planned. I had been awake from 6:30am Wednesday to 1:30am Friday with not even a nap. On the way home I was up less time but I was soooo tired, even a powernap didn't help. And we stopped to visit some of my family on the way back which was real nice.

And that brings us to now I guess. I need to get back on track ASAP. And hope to do so soon.. probably not today as I ate some delicious bacon as I was typing this. LOL. But soon! I need to get the kids out and running around along with myself. Get on our bikes too. Not much planned for summer, just taking it one day at a time.

Take care and stay healthy

2014 Monthly Weight Loss June Update

Friday, June 06, 2014

{YAWN!} Oh, I'm sorry, excuse me. It's just been one very tiring month. As I mentioned in last months blog my wife was in a car accident. Well, it hasn't gotten much better. More doctors appointments, more MRI's, more pain prescriptions. I've been driving her all over the place. Waiting for hours here and there in the car as she is in physical therapy or in a medical supply office. After more then 4 weeks the doctor now told her to get a neck brace! The good thing, it helps her a lot. So some of the results of the MRI's are good, some still waiting. The good, her shoulder is not torn! The waiting, on Tuesday when I won't be able to comfort her she will find out the results of the MRI concerning her nerve damage. This is the biggest hurdle. All along the doctor has suggested it looks like she might need surgery but we will find out more this week.

Now, why will I not be able to be with her? I am finally getting away without the wife and kids and going to The Bahamas. I can't wait to get down there and go jetskiing and snorkeling. FYI, the wife is on a getaway herself right now for the same amount of time I will be. Both trips were planned and paid for before her accident.

I have finally finished cutting down the trees/bushes in my backyard. As well as digging up all the roots. It really opened things up more. Now I think I will take down yet another that I previously was going to leave up, still deciding though. And then I need to go and start tearing down an old, falling apart brick bar-be-que. A few people said I should rebuild it but I haven't made up my mind yet. I will try and save the bricks though.

The kids are doing great. Emily is nearing the end of 2nd grade. She is one of the smartest in her class. All 4 out of 4's on her latest report card. Eric is doing well too. Now that the nice weather is here they can start going outside more to play and get out of the house!

Now to my weight. As you've read it has been a hard month. Prior to the accident I joined a dietbet which ended a week and a half ago to give me more motivation. It kind of worked. I had never been more disciplined (even though it wasn't 100% the healthy way) and I made my weight and "won" my dietbet. The prize all the winners received was $54.21! Not bad. It cost $30 to enter and there is a $7.50 fee. So I still made over $30. I probably will enter another soon but not just yet. Since that weigh-in, things went back to the way they have been for the last month and even with my vacation beginning this Monday and the weigh-in itself this morning I failed. Yesterday was the worst day before a weigh-in by far I ever had. The decisions I made were the worst. I have no one to blame but myself. Stepping on the scale this morning I weighed 346 lbs. That's a loss of 8 lbs the last month. And a total of 69 lbs this year. Most people would love that. Most would say that is so good. For me, it's not. I know I can do better. I know I should have done better. This is the time of the year I can shine. And I will. Come July 6th I hope to surprise even myself!

Thanks for reading, leave a comment. Keep SParking!

Take care and stay healthy

    Mike,
Sorry, I read this last week, but on my phone, and it's so hard to comment from there if you want to write more than two sentences!
Sorry the weather wasn't the best for your vacation, but glad you got to get away and relax. You needed that, as did Kathy the week before. How were the results regarding the nerve damage?

As for your weight loss...yeah, you could do better. I've seen you do better. BUT, with everything you had going on you still managed to stay very strong and you still managed a loss. I have had a lot going on in my personal life and I have not handled it well...
So pat yourself on the back and just keep pushing forward my friend... emoticon

Glad to hear the kids are doing well. Go miss Emily! What a little scholar you have! I cannot believe she's done with 2nd grade. I remember when she started school!!

And as far as the backyard, wish I was closer, I'd love a project like that. I'd totally make you rebuild the BBQ, but I'd also help! emoticon

Take care and can't wait to see next month what all you have accomplished! Go you!

So much information - I love this blog! First off though can I request you be gentle to yourself? You are moving in the right direction and you are human. 8 lb loss is great for the month (as is 69 for the year) and I vote that you reward yourself a little. I hope that your wife is starting to heal and feel better - it can be difficult to recover from car accidents. Finally I am ecstatic to learn that you are headed to the Bahamas (and so jealous!!!) I love snorkeling and it will be a very relaxing vacation I think. You definitely deserve it after a hard month. Have a great time!

Make sure to take time for fitness on vacation. It's always easier in a new setting. Take a walk, run or swim... whatever you enjoy. Just take time for yourself and enjoy. Sounds like you had a crazy month, focus on yourself while you are gone. You will not regret it! emoticon
