To finish is to succeed...I finally succeeded in completing a half-marathon. What started out as a goal to start running again in July 2010 has turned into completing the biggest race of my life. I finished the Rock-the-Parkway (Kansas City) half-marathon with a time of 2:15. I did it with one of my best friends, who was able to finish several minutes ahead of me. He even backtracked at one point to check on how I was doing. That was both courageous and considerate.
The impact of the race has just started to sink in. I never imagined completing 13.1 miles (let alone 3) when I began this journey. Completing it has opened up a whole new world for me. The encouragement, the camaraderie and the support I have received from my family and friends has been phenomenal. Completing this race has given me the courage to realize that I can do anything I set my sights on. All it takes is planning, support, and perseverance.
I can't wait until my next half-marathon in October!
