Keep on Swimming

In early December I recommited to living a healthy life, mainly to losing weight. At first I was seeing some weight loss each day, now a month plus later, not necessarily. It's easy to let that be an excuse for not continuing the journey, but as the fish from finding Nemo said, 'Keep on Swimming'.

    The ideal weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week, so maybe make your weigh-ins weekly so you don't get disappointed if you don't lose weight each day. And of course there are those plateaus, so as long as you are following your plan, don't get discouraged! Oh and keep on swimming!!

Whether you have the newest Galaxy S4, Motorola Ultra, or an old iPhone, everyone agrees it is generally easier to use a computer and the web interface. Yet, in today's world, how often are we around a computer, maybe at work, maybe in the evenings? Now look in your pocket or purse, if you have a Smart Phone with you then you can have Sparkpeople with you everywhere you go.

My challenge to myself, and you if you want to join, is to use the mobile app 80% of the time. When I fall off track on recording it is usually because I plan to record everything later. I can be good on doing that, but then I forget, miss a day, it can become two days, then weeks.

So join me, let's put that app to the test!!!

This is the time of year that everything seems to be focused on Health. TV Ads, health clubs, people's resolutions. While I am not making a new years resolution I do plan to take full advantage of the focus that our society will have on healthy eating and living over the next month!

I'm writing this on August 10 - early to mid August. This is the time of year I really struggle with, last minute cookouts and many birthday parties in our family. The stress and hecticness of "Back to School". The desire to get some last minute coaster trips in and often eating on the run. August quickly becomes a busy September that leads to October. Charity Dinners at church and Halloween Candy, Thanksgiving goodness and Pumpkin pies. At this point I usually refocus - I make it to the gym quite often in December, and while I don't miss out on the Christmas goodies, it's not the free for all I find myself in during November.

Then it seems for all of us - January brings about resolutions and new commitments to healthy living. Its often easier then, TV shows are about healthy food, everyone is losing weight, it may be hard to get into the gym though.

I am challenging myself and you - I don't want to repeat this cycle - instead of an eat all you can August I am focusing - I am committing - I am losing weight!

This week has been a good one. I am focused, I wnat to see results, I need to see results, I am determined that I will see results. I am in control - I am have extra weight, but it is not going to have me!
