Phew - just did a walk that was ALL UPHILL!

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Wow -- I just tracked out a walk that looked nice and leisurely (amazing how that works when you are sitting at the computer). Well, after the first few blocks it turned into all hills!! I live here and didn't realize how hilly this route would be! I thought...nice day in the 70's - yes I have long pants on but it will be fine-- Sure wish I had worn the shorts!! :)

The route was beautiful despite the hills bordering one of our prettiest Country Clubs here in Raleigh. The golfers were out (they were NOT breaking a sweat) and there were a few people walking the same route but they were all going the other way (did they know something I didn't!).

I had not used geodistance.com before and was having fun plotting out different walks. I will have fun devising another route for tomorrow. 2 1/4 uphill miles was just perfect for today.

Is it naptime??

I love to walk with a GPS so it tells me what my vertical distance is. It's fun to see just how uphill my walk has been.

I also took a nice walk today, with a grandson in our local hills. He lead the way - in fact I was supposed to stop if I got ahead of him. We saw roadrunners, blue jays, squirrels and he spotted a rattler staying cool under a tree. Needless to say we didn't stay there too long. We both had a wonderful time and got some good exercise.

Sounds like a fun walk! The trail I ususally run on is pretty flat, just a gentle increase in altitute but sometimes towards the end of one of my long runs it feels uphill - BOTH WAYS! As my Dear Hubby keeps telling me - "Hills are your friend!" Easy for him to say!

Keep Sparkin'!

Met first weight goal...

Friday, September 25, 2009

Well, I met my first weight goal of 14 pounds lost! I had projected to have completed this by September 15th, but it took an extra 11 days...probably because of that 19 day vacation I took (even though I lost 1 1/2 pounds during that time!).

I have re-set my goal to add an additional 6 pounds now rounding it up to 20. Since I feel committed and comfortable with the changes I have made I am not going to set an end date for this goal. I would expect a pound a week is achievable and that pace of loss will help to keep it off in the long run.

This makes my Friday a happy one!

Great Measurement Day - enough incentive to stay on track!!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

I just did my September measurements and was surprised (and delighted) to see that I continue to chisel away at the tape measure! I have lost a total of 7.75 inches with 3 inches being gone from my waistline! My neck has decreased by an inch! This is since the beginning of July. I can really see that in my pictures.

I was out last night and noticed that the shirt I had on kept slipping and feeling big on me. How I would love to have to downsize by one size in another month or so! My pants are all elastic so I don't notice it so much there, although I have retired a couple pairs as I noted too much leg and behind space. Just a little difference really MAKES a difference!

I went back on logging my food today because yesterday became a binge day. It was the worst I had and I ate half a sleeve of (low fat - doesn't that count for something!?!) saltines with butter, peanut butter and strawberry preserves! And then I had a Panera Bread bagel last night after my meeting at Panera...and for some reason I HAD to put real butter on it under the low fat cream cheese!

Today has been much better and I am back on track. I am fixing salmon and asparagus for dinner with a side of applesauce. And I just ate air popped popcorn for a snack.

I love binge days! And I really love getting back on track on the next day!!

No walking outside today -- it has been wet and rainy all day. So, I did housework instead.

Great Weekend!

Monday, September 21, 2009

What a great weekend this was. The weather was perfect and my daughter was home from College to participate in the Streetpainting Festival here in Raleigh (the fourth time she has done this). She and her friend chalked their square with this adorable picture of a little boy who was caught chalking on the board. It was a hit with the spectators.

I enjoyed walking around seeing all of the craft vendors and the other (200) "in progress" and finished street arts! They had some terrific food. Daughter and I split a great eggplant parm sandwich and then I had to get a good old vendor hot dog. I also was very bad this weekend as I made my Grandmother's molasses cookie recipe since we had collected up the necessary one cup of bacon grease (told you it was bad...but oh so good!!!). I hadn't made these in years. Yes, I didn enjoy some this weekend. But the good news is that my weight is holding fine with just one pound to go before my goal of 14 lost is met! Now that it is Monday I will settle back to the fish, chicken and veggies routine.

Looking forward to this week. I have a job interview on Friday and am calling about another one today. Not anxious to go back to work, but will probably decide on what I want to do so I can start sometime late October. I want to get back on the road in October for one more trip before going back!

Your daughter is very talented. That is a great drawing - very good.

I had to smile when I read about the molasses cookies. I have recipes from my grandmother / aunt which has ingredients like that. I love looking at them as they call for things like lard, sour milk, etc. PA Dutch... good eats!

Have a good week.

Post Travel Weigh In -- GREAT NEWS!!

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

After 19 days on the road I tentatively stepped onto the scale this morning. Well, let me tell you that I stepped on it again and again, just not believing what I was seeing! It was a long trip with eating out about 75% of the time. I never felt "deprived" and enjoyed many small bits of special treats along the way (including my son's fantastic raspberry chocolate ganache cheesecake!) and only counted calories on paper about half of the time. It seems to be easier knowing what to avoid or how to just have a "taste" of something special.

Truth be told, I was not going to be at all surprised to see a weight gain of 4 to 5 pounds! It just seems to be the way it is.

Granted, I did do some walking on the trip, but I didn't feel that it was much at all, so I have to put the credit to the caloric intake or lack thereof. At any rate, this puts me on good footing to continue forward on this venture.

As of this morning I was down and additional 1 1/2 pounds! That's 11 1/2 total!

YEAH!!!!!!!! I credit Spark People and the wonderful support for helping me with this.

Well, I have to go the the grocery store and stock up on more of the good fruits and veggies!
