Too Long...Many Changes...Back To Re-Focus

Too long...they have changed a lot of features here.

Worked the awful "work at home" job for a year and a half and just decided enough was enough. They outsourced the easy medical claims leaving 2 of us to do the complex claims for the US. Gee, thanks, corporate America!

So, a week ago, I retired!

Now for more updates...

My baby was the first of my 3 children to be engaged last Christmas (at the Angus Barn, no less... nice touch future son-in-law!).

And this brought a tear to my she decorated her mortarboard for her graduation from UNCG in May!

Where does the time go?

And all of my children are currently happy and doing well. My oldest son (with the beard) is in a serious relationship, my middle child (on the right) is doing well with his multiple health problems and ... well, it was just time for me to do something different!

So, after a year and half of sitting on my behind I have gained some of my weight back. And where does it go? Right to the middle...well, gee, why does it have to do that! So, one size up and it's time to move again! Already over the past week I have found myself doing so much more and it feels so good.

Back on the treadmill...and heard a little pat, pat, pat... as Wiley (my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) was trying to jump on with me! Guess he has not forgotten! I grabbed his leash and he joined me for a nice leisurely walk while I read a book on my Ipad. Leisurely? Yes, it turned out pretty slow... 2.25 mph... his legs are short! :)

So, what else does retirement hold? Spinning (heavens, no, not the exercise type... I am spinning my yarn!), knitting and crocheting (running my 2 groups); some volunteer work that I am lining up, reading (and listening to) many books I have on my list, travel, catching up on the movies I have missed and more healthful eating along with a side of exercise... oh, and did I mention that daughter is moving back home after 5 weeks of unsuccessful job hunting? So, I will be adding a daughter, another dog and her fiance will be joining us soon as he moves to NC (anyone have a computer job in RTP??).

Isn't retirement supposed to be quiet, peacful, a time of reflection?

Uh oh, someone forgot to tell that to my family!

I'm really ok with it..and looking forward to having the house alive again!

So, that's it. I'm back to charting my food (what in heaven's name did they do with the food log...took me 5 minutes to figure the darned thing out)...back to some exercise and hoping to trim off those extra pounds again.

And, I am confident that with my SP support it will happen quickly!

Joyce...enjoying retirement!

Congrats on your retirement. Also, you have a very nice looking family. I know you are proud of each one.

I'm just getting back to SP again, I was waylaid by injury and just finished the physical therapy. I'm doing swimming exercises now. Hopefully, I will make it a great exercise.

Hey, just today I left a note on your Spark Page saying I missed you!!!
Glad you got rid of the troublesome job and hope they won't find anyone to take it!
As for Tracker, I still go to right to a little box and use the old way. It is there. To me, it is quicker as I found a few faults with the new system - but it is nice, too.
I started my third challenge today and that keeps me on my toes. Still 7 lbs. above my goal and just can't seem to get back there. BUT I am determined!
Welcome back to the fold!!!

Treadmill Desk - Picture

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Well, Christmas went well, but I didn't get my Treadmill Desk I asked for. Hmm... here we come. Ordered it after Christmas and it arrived in the promised two days. Then it was all about my getting around to setting it up.

This little shelf will adapt to any exercise equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, etc.

And here it is - I LOVE it! I have been working on my laptop, taking the picture, uploading it, editing and now writing my blog all while walking at one and a half miles per hour! Well, you say, that's not much. But, my friends, take this into consideration: I have been walking now for SIXTEEN minutes instead of sitting on my tail doing all of this.

So, who will be the winner here??

Here is a picture of me watching Hulu. I plan to dash off some movies this way!

Since I know you want to know price, etc... here goes: 39.95 on Amazon made by Just do a search for treadmill desks.

Bye now...I am going to crank it up to 3 mph and I am going to watch a movie!! Look out metabolism - time to rev you up again!!

Christmas, Extra Pounds and Happiness!

Thursday, December 23, 2010

Ah, it has been a week of celebrating. I'm stuck in a rut of enjoying holiday goodies but not phased by it. I know I can change back to the good habits next week. And I'll have yet another turkey carcass to make more soup!!

But, the best news of all is that my daughter became engaged on Tuesday night when her now fiance took her to Angus Barn to propose. Such a special night and I am so delighted to have this young man that my daughter has chosen to become a part of our family.

So many plans to make and so much to look forward to.

Meanwhile, my focus will be back on myself next week. More walking, more soups and maybe even more sit-up!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Two Thanksgivings? A Long Blog Filled With Love

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Ok, ok...I will start this with the fact that I KNOW ... I have not been blogging; I have not been sparking; I have just not been on like I was before! Ok, so, now the flogging is done and can we please move on? emoticon

Now, order of business is that I need to record how things are going. Well, in reality the weight is up 4 pounds but in my world of thankfulness for family, friends and the holiday I am one up on most of you. I've already had TWO turkeys in the past 10 days (yes, cooked in my own oven with all of the sides and pies and all of that damaging stuff!). So, I figure that I now have 4 weeks to get this 4 pounds of wonderful, decadent, well worth it weight gain off again so I can move into enjoying another turkey and all the trimmings for Christmas! Oh, yes, and it is cookie making time...and peanut brittle and the creamiest fudge you have ever had!

Will I divert from our plans? Heck no...I will just continue this year and a half journey of moderation (ok, well, moderation's definition changes over the holidays according to my Funk and Wagnall). This journey is about learning to bend going around those holidays. And how to react coming out the other side.

SO.... now that I have that out of the way let's talk about my wonderful goes:

Telephone call on a Tuesday afternoon at 3 PM from son #1 who lives 650 miles away... "Hi, Mom, I'm flying in this weekend...and I'm bringing new girlfriend (whom I have not met) and let's do Thanksgiving on Sunday!" I say, "WHAT?" as my brain says to me "gotta clean the house...daughter and her boyfriend already planned to come in from college tomorrow...different with her boyfriend - he's a guy and doesn't see dust bunnies...but, but, have to CLEAN and get ready and get a turkey and think about food and, and, and (all you Mom's get this, I know!). Oh, and did I mention this was a very stressful workday? Ah, time for that.

So, after the initial shock I say, "That's great honey" and I start my BIG PLAN... hair at 530, and OH MY...I better buy that turkey on the way home so it can thaw! I request off Friday and Monday...boss says no to Friday, but I could take as an "unexpected day"...well, YEAH.... and I write and tell her plan on my taking an "unexpected day" Friday and vacation Monday...(it all comes out of my PTO anyway... scratching head).

So, I clean, cook, sort, buy new plants for the porch and we take out fleet of 3 cars to the carwash all at once. Wow - that never has happened before but it sure was fun!

And I have the best weekend EVER with all 3 of my children here; 2 with their significant others and I am SMILING all weekend. (And the new gf was very nice!) We even ALL played Rock Band and never laughed so hard!

And then 10 days later I got to do it all over again sans my oldest (he'll be back at Christmas). For these past 5 days the 4 of us (other son, daughter and her bf) have had the BEST time with his brother's Great Dane puppy (oh, yes, all 110 pounds - rest of his family went to a wedding and puppy couldn't go!), my daughter's 50 pound dog, my 18 pound dog and my 4 you can figure out the fun we've had! emoticon

Game playing, talking, Goodberry's and Pokey Sticks (you Raliegh-ites know about those!), turkey, trimmings and chocolate chip pie. The kids painted my daughters room so we can redecorate since she graduates college this year and will be moving on. They put together my new office chair and lifted/assembled my new 45 pound work printer (I work from home) and were the best family anyone could ask for!! (How many of your kids VOLUNTEER to help paint and re-decorate their room when they are moving out! She is one neat kid.)

Sigh, now everyone will go their separate ways today. I will go back to my work, turkey soup, egg white omelet and veggie eating plan and.....

I AM the luckiest Mom around !!

Could It Be...Fall?

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

I know it's been awhile since I have updated anything on SP. It just seems that life is going by so quickly. And the "down time" is being enjoyed with handcrafting.

So, update on progress- holding the weight without too much trouble. I'm enjoying some nice meals out with friends and even a few desserts. Then I watch myself carefully for the next couple days. Not a real problem. It has become routine now instead of any kind of challenge.

Work, well, they have increased our productivity again. Since they just finished training nurses in the Phillipines to do our job, while they finish their training over the next 3 months we are getting the tough assignments while they learn with the easy stuff. We used to get a nice mix of medical longer. Anyway, I'm doing ok and finding ways to make it work for me. Right now we are expected to do (unpaid) overtime and I am putting in 10-12 extra hours a week.

Free time - crochet, knitting and family and friends. Just keeping myself busy!

I'll catch up on everyones blogs really soon...I promise! I really miss that leisure time I had before to spend reading the daily comments.

I hope everyone is well and maintaining their goals...

Another perfect example of how our American work force is being treated.
More outsourcing! Doesn't anyone care about our country and the people who live in it??? Makes me think of the Amish expression, "Too soon old, too late smart". Our country will have fallen to disrepair by the time anyone gets smart about it.
Did you ask me to get on my orange crate?
So sorry you and your work are not appreciated, but glad you get a little free time. And so glad you are able to maintain your weight!!!
