As of this morning, I've lost a total of 45 pounds! I've been ramping up my exercise plan because I got the awesome news that we're going to Disney again in February. The last time we went I was much lighter and I still had to worry about fitting on the rides. I have seven months before the trip and I'd like to lose about another 20 pounds so I can keep up with all of the walking. I don't want to slow my kids down at all since this is the last trip I'll have when they are truly little and can appreciate the magic of Disney! It's great to have the additional motivation to keep me active.

Walk With Me

I did my first official walk this past Saturday. My daughter was an ambassador for Easter Seals and we participated in the Walk With Me event this past Saturday in New Orleans.

I don't usually allow people to take my photo. Especially a whole body photo. Shudder! I've got serious perception issues because I don't think I look a bit different than when I started.

I've lost nearly 40 lbs. and I still see the same person in the mirror. I think that I need to work more on loving myself, but it's really hard because I've spent so much time thinking negative thoughts about my body.

"Oh you're so disgusting, and fat!" "Who could really love you when you look like that?" I'm sure you're all familiar with the negative self talk. My husband and I started going back to church recently. (Which is a HUGE thing. He hasn't gone to church since we've been together so that's over 12 years!) When we went to church, one of the first things I noticed is that I was the biggest woman there. I thought, well that's it. They all know which sin I've committed! (If only gluttony was my only problem. Ha!)

My internal reasoning is so flawed. No one probably even cared or thought negative things when they saw me. I'm so wrapped up in my own misery sometimes that I tend to think everyone's looking at me. Guess what? They probably weren't. They were probably too wrapped up in worrying what everyone was thinking about THEM to worry about me.

Anyway, I'm going to keep plugging along. I haven't been able to check in to the boards much because I've been too busy exercising. I haven't been online much. I just thought I'd check in and let everyone know that I haven't quit!

Don't Forget The Sunscreen!

I've been working out at the gym lately, so I completely forgot to apply sunscreen before I went out to run today. We have a very cool rail to trail system in our town. All of the old train tracks have been converted into a running, biking trail. I've always been a little leery of running there, but I recently found out that the trace has several monitors to make sure that the runners are safe.

I decided to run my Couch to 5k session there today. I ran/walked the 30 minutes one way and it took me even longer to walk back. I took my time and enjoyed the scenery.

That takes care of goal #6 on my 32 in 32. "Go for a run on the Tammany Trace." I also walked across the street to pick up some fresh produce. I bought my first eggplant and I'm getting ready to cook it so I can knock off #29.

    That is a beautiful trail. Makes it so much better to go for a run/walk if you're not staring at machinery and a gym wall on a treadmill!

32 in 32

Today is my 32nd birthday. I decided not to hang around the house and whine about getting older. Instead, I went to the gym and had an active "date" with my husband. While I was there, I started thinking about the 32 things I'd like to do this year while I'm 32. I made a list when I got home. Quite a few of my goals are fitness related, but not all of them are...

1. Get published in a scrapbook magazine.
2. Accomplish 1,000 minutes of exercise in one month.
3. Try spaghetti squash.
4. Paint an accent wall in the living room.
5. Make homemade spaghetti sauce.
6. Go for a run on the Tammany Trace.
7. Read a non-fiction book.
8. Build a raised garden for herbs/vegetables.
9. Set up and accomplish a family photo shoot.
10. Finish the entire couch to 5k program.
11. Attend a NASCAR race.
12. Try five new recipes from the Spark People cookbook.
13. Spend the day on the beach at Lake Pontchartrain.
14. Get my eyebrows waxed. (Donít cry!)
15. Sew another American Girl doll outfit.
16. Try quilling.
17. Volunteer at the animal shelter.
18. Cook some couscous.
19. Take the kids to Fort Jackson.
20. Run/walk a 5k.
21. Lose another 20 pounds.
22. Spend an entire day without logging on to the internet.
23. Eat at one new restaurant.
24. Buy an outfit that includes pink as a prominent color. (AND wear it!)
25. Get a fishing license and a fishing pole.
26. Attend another build and grow clinic with the kids.
27. Visit a plantation home.
28. Go fishing alone and enjoy the peace.
29. Make a recipe that involves using eggplant.
30. Wear a pair of completely unreasonable heels out to dinner.
31. Try sewing on a scrapbook page.
32. Join a bigger, better gym.

Goal Check In

Well, I'm back to check in about the smaller goals I set in March.

1.) Drink 8 cups of water every day. (I had a really good run of drinking 8 cups a day for about two weeks, but I fell off the water wagon. I don't know why but I find it really hard to meet the 8 cups a day. I can't pinpoint why I struggle with it either. I do know that I was feeling much better when I managed it. Maybe I can make it a goal to drink 4 cups and work up from there? Once it's a part of my routine...)

2.) Workout 3x a week at the gym, on home days do at least 10 minutes of any activity. (I'm going to give myself partial credit on this goal. I was a lot more active last month. It wasn't exactly how I'd planned, but I did a lot more than I normally do and I'm pretty proud of myself.)

3.) Really work on trying to stress less. Everything will all work out. It always does. Ask yourself: Will this really matter to me a year from now? Five years? Ten? (The success of this goal is hard to measure. Especially since there was a TON of stressful stuff to deal with in March. I think I need to make more concrete, measurable goals.)


1. Drink 4 cups of water a day.

2. Move for at least 10 minutes a day. It doesn't have to be a "workout". Ride bikes with the kids, do jumping jacks, play the Wii. Just something. I'd really like to reach 1,000 minutes this month.

3. Start a lifestyle change journal and write something in it everyday. It can be an inspirational quote or reflection on Spark People articles. Be positive!

I'll be back at the beginning of May (OMG how is it April already?) to check in on these goals!

    I always forget that tea or Crystal Light counts. Now if coffee counted... I'd be in business. LOL

    The water thing is an area I struggle with too, but I also include if I drink tea or crystal light or something. It's on my April goals list too!
