Stomach Flu

Friday, May 10, 2013

Just got over the stomach flu. It is no fun not being able to eat and no fun not feeling like exercise. It makes me appreciate good health and having Sparkpeople to go back to after the illness is over.

It must be doubly rough going through this with the little grandbabies in the mix. I hope you're back to normal ASAP!

Six months and still going.

Friday, May 03, 2013

I have been with Sparkpeople for 6 months and find that it is one of the most user friendly programs that I have ever been on. After 6 months I still love and use the tools that are available to me. It is like a game in many ways. I try to obtain 100 points a day and find that by going for the points I learn a lot. Reading the articles and testing my knowledge with the trivia quiz has been very helpful to keep me motivated and of course keeping up with the foods I eat really keeps me on tract. My DH has joined me and we keep each other accountable. Neither of us has reached our goal yet but we've both lost over 30 lbs and several clothes sizes. Love Sparkpeople!

Eating on the weekend

Sunday, March 10, 2013

My DH and i like to eat out on the weekends and we have found that we can stay within our allotted calories by making wise choices. Many of the restaurants have lower calories meals on the menu and we chose from those. For the restaurants that don't we try to stay with grilled or baked meats or fish and avoid anything that is fried. So far it is working well for us. Thanks Sparkpeople for great ideas.

Overcoming the sweets

Friday, February 22, 2013

I am a big sweets lover. I have struggled with over eating sweets more than anything else. I have found, however, that I can still have my sweets and loose weight. The secret is moderation. I limit the amount that I can have to be within the allotted calories that I need to loose weight.

This past valentines I was tasked with making cookies for the grand daughter’s preschool. The recipe made more than was needed. Rather than keep the extra we took them to church on Sunday for our Bible study class. I limited the amount I could have and stayed within the calorie allowed.

In addition to the cookies, Valentines always offers the challenge of not over eating chocolate which is always around during that time. I have learned to limit what I can have. I love the freedom of eating healthy with the option of an occasional sweet. The best thing of all is that I lost weight that week.

Happiness is wearing jeans again. I haven't worn them for years but recently went out and bought a pair and discovered that they were comfortable. I thought my body build ( I am an apple) and extra weight kept me from wearing jeans because in the past I could never seem to get a good fit. Maybe I tried to fit in the wrong size or maybe I gained weight after I bought a pair, but I was never happy with the fit. Now there are styles that fit all body types and that makes this girl with bulges in places that didn't seem to ft jeans in the past, happy. The nice fit gives me incentive to keep on loosing weight so that I can wear a smaller size and look even better in them.
