Week One: Off to a Good Start!

My first week on The Simple Diet has passed. I canít say that it has flown past; but pass it did, and the scale is showing results. Iíve lost six (count Ďem, SIX!) pounds, and feel very satisfied by that.

I wasnít sure how Iíd feel about drinking all those shakes. I really donít enjoy milky-type things very much; in fact, Iím a little lactose intolerant. However, I chose carefully which mixes to use, and so far I feel fine! The taste is actually good, and I am enjoying the shakes. Trying to keep them interesting is the challenge, but there are plenty of different things to mix in to vary the taste. Yesterday, I added pineapple and that was pretty good! Maybe if I got some rum extract, I could pretend it was a pina colada!

The entrees have been fine, too. I have a history of eating Lean Cuisine regularly, so Iím used to having pre-portioned prepared meals. There are so many to choose from. I canít imagine being bored about the entrees. Plus, I always have two side dishes with my entrťe: two servings of fruits and/or vegetables. When Iím finished eating, I am really FULL.

Just a couple of days ago, I began taking Alli whenever I eat one of the entrees. Iíve had good luck with Alli in the past, so I thought Iíd include it again. I know some people cannot tolerate it, but I donít have those ďissues,Ē thank God.

I only ate one bar all week. I had to be out of the house for quite a few hours so I took one along and was glad I did. I got pretty hungry and was happy to eat the bar with a cup of coffee. It filled me up and I was fine until I got home later. If I hadnít had the bar, I would have had to eat SOMETHING, and given where I was, it probably would have been something bad.

The only near miss was one evening, my college-age daughter came to town to meet up with some friends. She called me and invited me to join them for dinner. Now how can a mom say ďnoĒ to that? Of course I went, but I was kind of worried about what Iíd eat. I ended up ordering a spinach salad topped with broiled salmon, no croutons, dressing on the side. The salmon was very, very good, and so moist that I did not need any dressing at all. I donít think there was anything at all wrong with this meal, EXCEPT the portion size was surely too big. Yes, I did finish it. Wished I hadnít, but I did. Even too much healthy food is too much food.

Have you heard of Fitbit? Iím using one and I love it. Itís a high-tech pedometer that synches with my laptop. I can keep track of so many things: number of steps, calories burned, flights of stairs, etc. I can also record all of my food there, which I do.

Hereís hoping that Week Two will be a good one as well! My husband has to go to the doctor tomorrow for a biopsy, so we are a bit stressed out. We have our fingers crossed and expect good results. Positive thinking!

Tight Pants

Tight pants! This conjures up one of two images: a great-looking rear end in a cute pair of low-slung jeans, or a pair of chubby cheeks stuffed into Mom jeans that are a size too small, straining at the seams. Hmmmm. When I was younger, the first image definitely described my derriere. However, those days have not been around in some time. Today, I officially embark on a mission to restore my bottom to its former glory. It won't be easy, and it won't happen quickly; these things I know.
Like any cute butt, my plan consists of two parts. The first part is the eating part. There are a million and one eating plans that lead to weight loss. I've chosen to follow The Simple Diet, by Dr. James Anderson. It's very straightforward. No counting, no cooking, just eating. It's relatively inexpensive, compared to many of the commercial eating plans that are available. Plus, there are tons of different foods to choose from, which I'm hoping will stave off the boredom factor.
The second part of the plan is the exercise part. For me, this will consist of walking a minimum of two miles a day, six days a week. This shouldn't be a big deal since I own two dogs and walk them daily anyhow. Now I will just kind of formalize things a bit. I've figured out exactly how long my route is and have tweaked it to be just the right length.
My journey began this morning when I weighed in for the first time (ugh), and took my first set of measurements (double ugh). However, I am convinced that those disturbing digits are at their all-time high. The only direction they'll head is DOWN. It's up to me how quickly that happens.
