feeling sad

I had a busy day at school today. The kids were crazy because it was snowing when they came in. It never amounted to anything except for us having to have indoor recess yet again! Being a new teacher (only my 2nd yr) has taught me how important exercise is for children as well as adult. The students are so much calmer and ready to learn after running around on the playground rather than playing inside and not getting to move as much. I think I become the same way when I miss the gym too much. I have been working out about 3 to 4 times a week. I know I should go everyday if I want to see weight loss but I have some meetings after work. (just another excuse I know). I feel like my weight loss has come to a stand still and I am not sure to jumpstart it again. I have cut back on my calories and not eaten so much junk and I have also been running everyonce in a while (which I hate). Any ideas on how to kickstart my program again?

    I'm the same way. A day or two without walking and I am out of sorts. I agree - kids need that activity - my GKs certainly do.

    Tell me about it! Kids are NUTS without burning off some of that energy! BTW my name is Beth too, and I was a 5th grade teacher. (on leave now, going back next year). It's hard to get the kick start. I guess doing the challenge really helped me. I use(d) the nutrition tracker and picked calories and fiber ranges to try to get into at first. That gave me some motivation without overwhelming me. I've also been drinking more than the challenge amount of water most days, and I find that makes me full...and conscious of what I'm trying to accomplish...
Keep your chin CAN do it!

    I totally agree - kids NEED exercise! I don't get it why the schools (down here in the southern area, anyway, don't know about everywhere else) stop recess at SECOND GRADE! I think kids even in middle school NEED to get up and move around!
I've been getting my bee-hind to the gym every-other-day. I really was debating today, but did the self-talk that I have COMMITTED myself and I sure am tired of telling everyone ELSE what they need to do and not taking my own advice, so I did get there! You don't "have" to work out "every" day, but try not to let yourself have more than 2 days away from your cardio.
Even if it's "just" a good, brisk walk for 20 minutes, you are doing SOMETHING DIFFERENT from your daily activities. I don't know your personal schedule, but as a teacher don't you have like "planning time" that MAYBE you can take 10 or 15 minutes to hit the gym and just walk? Finding the opportunities can be easy if you look, but sometimes it seems that they're so obvious you see right through them.

what a weekend

I can't believe how fast the weekend goes by sometimes. I haven't felt well for about a week. Apparently a stomach virus is sweeping our school. I finally started to feel better over the weekend but then had a splurge day on Sunday. I went to see the CAPS play and win and then went to a superbowl party. Now normally I would beat myself up over splurging for the next few days. However, thanks to spark people I have learned that that isn't the best thing to do. I am okay having a tough day every once in awhile. I mean I am a teacher and I tell my students it is okay to make mistakes that is the only way to learn. Maybe I should learn to take my own advice sometimes. Today was a much better day and I got to see Mama Mia for the first time. What a great movie!

    You are so right, we just have to brush the weekend off and GET BACK UP ON THAT HORSE! I splurged way to much myself and now I have got TO SADDLE UP!

  Its easier to use the as I say not as I do.....What a great lesson it is to learn that you can fall, make a mistake but the real test is if you get up!

And, I think it's MUCH easier to hand out advice than it is to take/apply it!!!
You did OKAY. You've GOT to let your hair down once-in-awhile, just as long as it doens't become an "extended stay"!!!

Today was an awesome day. While I didn't get to work out like I had hoped, I was able to catch up on my work. This was our first snow day and I didn't have to go to school. I slept in and then finished my report cards. Since finishing them I have felt my stress level drop drastically. I also made my husband a great dinner for his bday that I wouldn't have had time to make it I had to work today. We had old world chicken, green bean casserole, and twice baked potatoes. I love being so productive today! I think tomorrow will be better because I am going to go to the gym. emoticon

    Dontcha love snow days! Such freedom! Good for you, getting so much accomplished. Usually I just lay around till about 5, then work double time! How long have you been teaching? After 21 years, I'm on autopilot, and don't take anything home anymore. It'll be there when I get back, and it'll all get done!

    My kids had a snow day, but I still had to go to work. Bummer! I know it always feels good though when you are able to get a lot done at home. Especially making a nice dinner. Good for you!

very first blog

I have been a member of sparkpeople for a little over a year now. Last year I lost about 12 pounds but over Christmas I gained a couple of pounds back. This worries me and I'm trying to work harder. I joined the challenge because it holds me accountable for what I am eating during the day. I find without the challenge that I don't track my food, does this mean I don't have the willpower to loose weight? My mom can say no to foods that aren't good for you but I do not have that kind of willpower. Today was a good start to the challenge and hopefully I won't go down hill during the superbowl. I know this doesn't make sense but I have never written a blog before and wasn't sure what to write about.

    I totally agree about the challenge making you accountable. Without the trackers it's hard to know what you're REALLY consuming.
