Know Where You Are Going!

Saturday, August 07, 2010

If you don't know where you are going, you might end up somewhere else.

Yogi Berra

Alice (at a fork in the road) "Which road should I take?"

Cheshire Cat (in a tree) "Where are you going"

Alice "I do not know"

Cheshire Cat "Then it doesn't matter which road you take!"

Fall, Get Up, Fall, Get UP, Fall, Get Up...Repeat as Necessary

Friday, August 06, 2010

A constant theme running through recent blogs is I have messed up, I have gotten off track, I have failed, and similar statements. The road is not smooth and it is not straight. Sometimes you go off course. Sometimes when you are driving and make a wrong turn, the nice lady in the GPS say "recalculating" and then she tells you where to turn to get back on course. it is the same with our lives. Sometimes we veer off course or even leave the roadway. The nice lady in the GPS notices this too and says "Steer right to return to the roadway" You know where the roadway is, if you happen to wander off once in a while, that's OK. That's how you meet new people. Just steer gently back to the roadway and continue on.

Walk Placidly Amid the Noise and the Haste.

Thursday, August 05, 2010

Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand.

- Emily Kimbrough

Don't lead, I might not follow. Don't follow, I might not lead. Take my hand and walk beside me and we can go anywhere we want.

Unknown (to me at least)

Walk placidly amid the noise and the haste...

Walk? For some that is a blessing they can't enjoy. I have a Scout, he became a Marine. He lost both legs above the knees over there. He survived but his buddies didn't. Walk? Where? Pray. Pray on your knees, if you have them, for those that don't have knees or knuckles. Pray for those that do, that serve here and over there. Sailors, soldiers, coasties, airmen and marines. Give thanks for those that have gone before and those that will come after us. Give thanks with every step you make. Give thanks with every breathe you take. W. Churchill said, "Never, never, never give up." I say, "Never, never, never forget." I hope you enjoy your freedom tomorrow. Enjoy the 65th Anniversary of dropping the bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, August 6th, 1945. We killed a few, not as many as the fire bombings of Tokyo. We dropped leaflets on several cities asking, pleading for their surrender. Not bombs but leaflets. They didn't, so we did. They still didn't , so we did again, three days later. On September 2, 1945, on the U.S.S. Missouri, in Tokyo Bay, they did. The war was over. Korea was free. China was free. Japan was free. We were free. The world was free. Today, the U.S.S. Missouri is along side Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, with the U.S.S. Arizona (1166 sailors still cry out, some gave all) Today, are we still free? To peace! To us and those like us! To warriors who fight for peace, and those warriors that can't walk. Walk you say? Walk proudly, you are free. Walk gratefully, you are an American. Walk to serve, for those that can't. emoticon emoticon

The Grass is Greener!

Wednesday, August 04, 2010

The grass is truly greener on the other side of the fence. The problem is that the reason the grass is greener is because it is covered with manure!

Instead of comparing our lot with that of those who are more fortunate than we are, we should compare it with the lot of the great majority of our fellow men. It then appears that we are among the privileged.

- Helen Keller

The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek, therefore not to find out who you are, seek to determine who you want to be.
