A Visit to the Medicine Man

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Went to see the doc this morning. All my blood work was good. Cholesterol is good, tri-glycerides are good. Blood pressure is toward the high end and he would like it reduced a bit. He gave me a choice of stronger meds or lose 15 pounds. I don't really want to become medicine dependent so I opted for the weight loss which is on the agenda anyway. I have another appointment in ninety days and need to have 15 pounds gone by then. That's ten weeks or 1.5 pounds per week. That seems manageable to me.

Alli

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

The poll I took this morning asked if I would take the new diet pill Alli. The results of the poll were interesting. A very small percentage of people responded positively. The vast majority said no for a variety of reasons ranging from fear of side effects to an anti-diet pill position. This shows that Spark People people are willing to go the distance and do what needs to be done to make the lifestyle changes which will result in permanent weight loss rather than the quick fix of a pill followed by the quick unfix of improper eating.

Don't wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

This is akin to don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to meet it. Into every life a little rain must fall. People of faith tell us the Lord will never give us more than we can handle. Sometimes I wish He didn't have so much confidence in me! Oftentimes, what appears to be an insurmountable obstacle is but a pebble in the road when we look at the big picture. There are always going to be obstacles if we look for them. Zig Ziglar says obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off your goal. An old joke has a traveller asking a local farmer during a particularly long and hard rainstorm "Do you think it will stop raining?" The wizened old timer responds "It always has before" When rain falls into your life, remember that it will stop. Don't wait for it to stop. Enjoy the experience.

Trust in God. Believe in yourself. Dare to dream!

Monday, February 09, 2009

These are the words of Walt Disney. Three simple phrases which should serve as guideposts for everyone's life. W. Clement Stone philosophized that despite appearances to the contrary at times, God is always a good God. In "South Pacific" Bloody Mary sings that you've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true.

So, it all boils down to
Trust in God. Believe in yourself. Dare to dream!

Thoughts on Huddling

Sunday, February 08, 2009

It would be so easy to just log on to my Spark Teams and mindlessly press one of the buttons for a canned huddle thought. I admit that I do this some days when time is more precious than the essence but usually, I try to think of a truly inspiring thought for the day. It usually isn't original with me but something I have come across in my lifetime, perhaps a quote from Norman Vincent Peale or W. Clement Stone. In any event, in posting this quote to each of my seven teams, I am forced to concentrate on the thought each time, implanting it on my subconscious and forcing it into my day.

This is a day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
