Wednesday, April 21, 2010

You never will be the person you can be if pressure, tension and discipline are taken out of your life.

There was city slicker visiting a nearby farm. As the farmer friend gave the city slicker a tour, he noticed that the eggs were hatching. He observed how one little chick was struggling to break out of it's shell. The city slicker reached out to break the shell to free the chick from its' prison.

The farmer quickly said, "Don't". And held his city friends hands back.

The city slicker looked puzzled and asked why? Since the chick was having since a hard time? He explained he was just trying to help.

The farmer simply replied, "If you help the chick out of it's shell it will die. Without the opportunity to struggle out of the shell, the chick will never build its' strength to prepare it for living it's life."

So we too, must at times struggle under tension and problems to build us up strong enough to live our lives. emoticon

Use Your Thinking End!

Monday, April 19, 2010

Nature gave us two ends: one to sit on and one to think with.
Ever since then, man's success or failure has been dependent on the one he used most.

Another Pleasant Valley Sunday

Sunday, April 18, 2010

...here in status seeker land. I spent yesterday with the grandchildren at the softball fields and indulging at Sonic. Today I get to spend the afternoon dressing up the homeplace. I hated yardwork when I was a boy and I haven't gotten to like it any better as an adult. This is the price we pay for the life we choose. I could live in an apartment and have somebody do all this for me. Or not! I do enjoy the me time riding the lawnmover around the yard with the entire world blocked out by the engine noise and just me and my thoughts as I absently steer among the trees and bushes. What must be must be.

I have a love-hate relationship with the yard as well. However, it sounds like your riding mower is just the perfect place for a daydream believer kind of guy.

Thoughts on Vacation

Saturday, April 17, 2010

"Vacation is what you take when you can't take what you have been taking any longer." The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz

SparkPeople Translation

Sometimes, the best course of action is to just step back for a while and take a break. The first reaction to stress is often to work even harder to try and get rid of whateverís causing it. Usually, this just fills more time with more activity, taking away options and causing more anxiety. When youíre feeling behind, when you lie awake nights wondering how youíre going to get everything done, when you start to replace whatís important with whatís urgent, thatís the time to slow down. Even when every instinct screams at you to speed up. Frantic action is rarely meaningful. Or very productive, for that matter. By taking a break, you can refocus and reenergize. Ironically, when you return, you can end up with the strength and awareness to get more done than ever.

Super! The word, "recreation" is made up of two key words: "Re" and "Create". That's what recreation or taking a break is supposed to do: Make a Re-Creation or New Creation of yourself.
