The Great Pizza Bake-Off Part Deux

Sunday, January 31, 2010

The first family pizza bake-off is history. bobby Flay did not show up! There must have been 25-30 different pizzas made by the several contestants. Fortunately, most of them were of the "personal" size (10" diameter) so the slices were small. I limited myself to "half slices of several; of the pies. the worst one there was fantastic! Pizza was complemented by Buffalo Wings, Asian Wings, funnel cakes, a copncoction my grand niece made which consiste of putting Oreos and cream cheese in a blender, making little balls of the result and dipping them in white chocolate (bad, mixed with naughty and covered in sinful) The day finished off with brownies, lemon squares and my son's soon to be famous home made spumoni. A good time was had by all and we are looking forward to this summer when we have the great chicken and pork grill off.

Hey, a Sicilian family cannot gather without food. A la famiglia!

The Great Pizza Bake-Off

Saturday, January 30, 2010

My father-in-law owned and ran a pizzeria for several years and each of his daughters came into possession of the secret recipes for dough and sauce which they dutifully passed on to their children. My son-in-law remarked one day that it was interesting that while everyone was using the same recipes as a basis, all of the pizza tasted different. Thus was born the Great Pizza Bake-Off. The weatherman threatened the event but the sleet and snow passed north of us and the great event is on!

There has been a bunch of slap talk back and forth and it promises to be a fun event. The difficult part will be to keep near the veggie pies and to avoid pepperoni, sausage and other fat laden toppings. The pizza has been foreseen and planned for with a light breakfast and lunch so all I can say is "Bring It On"

Spark is Life!

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Each day, I take about thirty minutes and go down the menu of available Spark Points and reflect on yesterday and prepare for today.

What strikes me is that the Spark Ploints plan is a good road map for life in general. Studies have shown that the most successful people are those who have clear, succinct, written goals. By sitting down at the end of the day, or the beginning of the day, to review the day just passed and plan the day upcoming, your give yourself an advantage over everyone else.

In today's world, you need an advantage so take it. Spark is Life!

Put One Foot in Front of the Other

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

This theory is valid in all of life's endeavors. Confucius said a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. After the first step, you are 30 inches closer to the goal. If we apply the put one foot in front of the other principle to all things in life they become manageable. Break the chore down into small tasks and accomplish the small tasks in order. Pretty soon, the small tasks, stacked =atop one another, have lifted you to goal.

Climbers use this method to climb Mount Everest. Before attempting to reach the summit, the climbers go to base camp, camp 1, camp 2, camp 3, and camp 4. When the climbers begin their assault on the summit, they have already made five successful climbs and the final assault is another in a series of climbs. Each of the previous five climbs has achieved two purposes, it has acclimated the climbers to the natural conditions and it has moved the climbers closer to their goal.

Take your chores in small steps

This is great. Would you mind if I put this on my Spark page to share with others? I would, of course, put your name on it?

Was browsing around having fallen been 'naughty' all weekend and stuffing my face including a pizza take-away. OMG what possessed me?!! Guilty as charged. Came across your blog and thought wow - what an inspiration! I will return to my next 'one step at a time' tomorrow and put this one down to experience. Thanks for such wise words.

Good News, Bad News

Good News, Bad News

Maybe it shoulkd say "Bad News, Good News". I had to go into Atlanta this morning and missed my regular breakfast. I overcame the temptation of Krispy Kreme and honey buns at the Quic k Trip. On the way home, I treated myself to the #1 lunch at the Varsity, two chili dogs, french fries and a diet coke. Bad News, 932 calories. Good news, I still have 800 calories left for dinner. I know missing breakfast is a bad decision and I don't do it regularly but comparing Krispy Kremes on the one hand and abstinence on te other, abstinence seemed the lesser of the two evisl.

Tomorrow, it's back to V-8, honey nut Cheerios and fat free milk for breakfast. But I did enjoy the Varsity!
