Counting Down, the End-of-the-Year Cleanout!

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Just two more days left until the new year arrives. That is two days to get all of the bad stuff from the holidays out of the house. Chocolate, cookies, cakes, pies. My usual routine is to eat all of this stuff. After all, there are children in (insert the third world country of your choice) who are starving and my eating this stuff will fend off their starvation. I think a better solution would be to find someone closer to home who would appreciate these goodies or just feed them to the trash can. No real point in backing up to get a start on the new year.

Reflections on Christmas

Monday, December 28, 2009

What a great season is Christmas. People actually act as though they like one another! While the magic of Christmas is in no small part because it comes but once a year, it would be nice if people kept Christmas in their hearts for a little bit longer.

Among the adults, we have reduced the gift giving to drawing names and exchanging gifts with one other person in the family. We have a tradition of buying two presents, a major present with a stated cost limit and a second gift for under $10.00. The ten dollar gifts have turned out to be the most fun to buy and to receive because they tend to be thought out.

Additionally, the adult gifts tend to be usable or disposable items like clothes, bedding, foodstuffs, personal services and the like. This means it is not necessary to have some more shelf space to display your Christmas presents.

One present I got this year was bottles of English Leather and Canoe colognes. Ah! I smell like high school again!

Twenty Ten, WOW

Sunday, December 27, 2009

In less than a week it will be 2010. It doesn't seem that long ago we were dancing like it was 1999. Then it was 1999. and now it's 2009 for just a few more days. Time flies when you are having fun!

As each year passes, we are provided with more memories. Family outings, family gatherings, friends' celebrations.

The days pass quickly, we have to savor each one as it is a fleeting thing, only with us for an instant and then gone.

Make a resolution to create at least 365 happy memories in 2010

There's Got to be a Moring After!

Saturday, December 26, 2009

Reflections on this Christmas are pleasant. There were some rough spots. We ordered a special present for my grandson and it did not arrive. We got him a substitute present to hold the place until the original one arrived and he couldn't have been happier with any present than he was with the substitute. We had dinner reservation Christmas Eve at a local restaurant and when we all arrived, there was a chain across the driveway with a sign that read "Closed for December 25" Not closed for Christmas but closed for December 25. Maybe they should have said "Closed for Happy Holidays" or "Closed for Winter Solstice". Political correctness sucks. In the spirit of The Christmas Story", we went to a local Chinese Restaurant for dinner. "Deck the Harrs with boughs of Horry, Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra!"

These were mere bumps in a very smooth road. Our extended family gathered on Christmas Eve and our nuclear family on Christmas afternoon, sharing the joy of the holiday as it should be shared.

God Bless us all, everyone!

Wait, just so I am clear...........you had a reservation at a restaurant for Christmas, and when you got there it was closed??????????? What??? That is outrageous! They would be hearing from me when they reopened! :)
Sounds like you were able to pull together a good holiday, despite the bumpy road! Way to go!

The Story Of Christmas

The Story Of Christmas
From Luke 2: 1-20

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
